Well, I've read all the posts and have determined the root cause of the problem here is even attempting to shoot the Shield with your eyes open. What WERE you thinking?!! I've very plainly heard it stated by several authoritative sources, since its introduction, that shooting the new S&W Shield is indeed an "Eye Opening Experience"...........

I can't believe I just added this post!

My revolvers all stop firing after 6 shots. What kind of BS is this? If I put in more bullets, it shoots again, but then it stops working again. It is a repeatable defect, and I demand that S&W fix it. How could they have let it slip through QC like this. I'm going to look into a class action lawsuit.

I converted my 9 mm Shield to a 5.56 mm -- my gunsmith, Boudreaux, sawed 3.44 mm off the barrel -- can't wait to try it out at the range this Saturday morning.

If you can’t solve your problems with force or money, then obviously you’re not using enough…

Interesting problem.

I've discovered a SERIOUS safety issue though. If I pull the trigger, the gun will fire. I'm not kidding, I've tested this extensively and every single time I pull the trigger, regardless if I intend to or not, the gun fires.

To test this theory before posting this, I pointed the Shield at my office wall and pulled the trigger. BLAM! If my dog had been sitting there she would have been dead.

I hope my pistol is a fluke and others don't have this problem. I've contacted my attorney about filing a class action suit should others find their pistol has this defect.

PM me if you have a problem with your Shield firing when the trigger is pulled.

I'm having this ISSUE to! Not only does it fire every time I pull the trigger but the Shield is emotionally addictive! I can not put it down.

BTW...You have a excellent video on the Shield, probability the best I've seen .... However, you did not speak of this dangerious "issue".

S&W will soon be over run with returns so I will be helping them out. Send me your Shield and I will be installing the approved ammunition and emptying it back out until I get tired of doing that to your gun. Then I will move on to the next gun. No matter how many I get it will work on them all.

Size or quantity doesn't matter, just one of any type will work to keep you in battery. BUT,you need to keep them in your left front pocket if you are a right handed shooter. Left handed, best to use a rear pants pocket. Either way, remove before doing the laundry and using the dryer.

Now if you are making it go out of battery on purpose and just complaining (or don't even own one). A 9V works best after you complain (doing it by hand), if you put your tongue on the +/- end of the 9V. That works better yet to help just quit doing it.

No, I don't care for fo-tay, personally. I'm happy with 9mm. 45 ACP is my 2nd choice.

I have shot several 40s, and only ever owned one 40 cal gun (I don't have it anymore)

Hey Shipwreck, wasn't that the Super Shooter/Master Blaster technique that Costner used in the "Bodyguard"? Seemed to work for him. Defective Shield, my eye!.......lol

"Use the Force, Luke!"
I wondered where Obi-Wan was these days. Answering the customer service line at S&W, it seems....
Now if S&W will get off there defective plastic gun building butts and deliver us a green or blue Light Saber, then all is forgiven.

Great stuff, All! LMFAO several times! Coca-Cola out of my nose and everything!(Damn, that burns, too!)

Yes indeed. When I buy the second 9mm S&W Shield I am searching for right now, I plan to send that gun back too! Unbelievable that they let this stuff get out of the factory doors like that

I am feeling like it is my moral duty to buy as many of these defective guns as I can, to get them off the streets.

I'll get you my attorney's phone number. He'll want to talk with you about this. I think Coke owes you some money for that, because they have failed to put a warning for this on the outside of the bottle. Don't let this one go....

I ordered a set and they came in today - the problem is that I can't get the bpx open unless I run with the scissors while opening the package. I'm in a quandary over this mess.

Actually, the stippling has a purpose. I know of guys who train a great deal and compete sunshine, rain, snow .. whatever. The aggressive stippling prevents the gun from slipping when wet.

Bersa Thunder UC 9mm

I like 9mm guns
I agree about the Shield. Right behind it is the Ruger 10/22 Take Down. If you haven't looked at it, you might want to do so. The TD is leaps and bounds better quality than the standard 10/22.

I was not talking about the stippling lol. I love stippling. I will actually be stippling my m&p and i have stippled guns.

I am talking about the front cut he took out of his grip, where his pinky should go. for pulling the mag out it is pretty dumb to cut there look at the pic again.

So....

If I buy a Shield, I shouldn't fire it first. I bought it knowing of this serious defect, paying $399.00 for it. I feel the answer is to spend $499.00 worth of aftermarket parts, and spend the weekend installing them myself.

By the way, I don't need anyone with armors training to install these parts. Seriously, that's what You Tube is for!

Oh yes, almost forgot. I need to spend the next month on every internet site arguing with any and all as to why they must spend $499.00 on the same aftermarket parts!

Of course, I will still have not shot my Shield, as I was too busy installing the parts, and arguing on the internet. Beside, ammunition is expensive...

No, the most important part of this thread is a few posts above yours... Get a lawyer the next time coke comes out of your nose while trying to install Braille night sights

Kudos, Shipwreck. I am humbled that you enjoyed my post. Good Thread, everyone. Best read I have had in a while. Anybody hear anything from D. Vader on this?

I discovered my faulty toilet when I tried shooting craps....... with my Shield....... with both eyes closed...... and both ears plugged with my fingers.....

Smith &Wesson replaced the toiled under the lifetime service agreement, and even comped me a roll of Charmin.

INCREDIBLE!!! They all had this flaw. I tried one after the other...picked up my CS45, aimed at target, but as soon as I closed my eyes the target would disappear! I also experienced an other problem; everything went black. I mean like pitch black. The same thing happened with my 4566, 457, 5906, and 3953.

I quickly called S&W customer service and was passed on to a guy with a British accent. Our conversation below:

Him "Use the Smith & Wessons, Luke"
Me "I don't think I can, I can't let go of my fear"
Him "Let go"
Me "Are you sure?"
Him "Trust me"
Me "OK, but do I keep my eyes open?"
Him "Don't trust your eyes, they will deceive you"

So I did...and sure enough I hit the target even when I couldn't see it. It felt like some force was guiding me...weird.

The customer service guy was awesome; a master of his craft. If anybody else has this problem, call S&W customer service and ask for Ben.
"That wizard is just a crazy old man..."
