Default First 9mm

I have just about settled on getting an M&P 9c with factory crimson trace laser grips that is in stock at my LGS for somewhat under $650 new. What are your thoughts on that set-up at that price.
It will be a combination range, HD and carry when I take the CCW class in early June and receive the permit a month or so later.

The CT grips are probably $299-ish from some places just by themselves. I don't own a CT on any of my guns but not because they aren't some of the best out there, I just haven't bought one yet!

The M&P9c is one of the funnest guns I've ever shot and I carry mine daily. It is just between the Glock 26 and 19 for size and even with the flush-fit mag it feels really good; I wouldn't hesitate taking it to a pistol class or even shooting it in some pistol competition. I do prefer the mag with the pinky extention myself but there is a company that makes a rubber slip-on grip extension that extends the grip so you can use the 17-round full-size M&P9 magazines. Those are really good and I have them for my 9c when I want to have a lot of fun at the range. They do fit a bit tight but a razorblade and about 5 minutes you can trim down the areas that are a tad high and the mags will slide home without much effort.

Great choice on a gun, depending on your location you may find a better price on line but sometimes it is hard to beat the local guys for service. But I think $650 is a good price from what I remember seeing.

I just got back from one of the LGS and left a deposit on the 9c with laser grips. I handled it some and it felt right and I think I got a pretty good deal at $639.99 plus NC Sales tax. and no transfer paperwork fees. I just need to get the permit to purchase from the Great State of North Carolina and then it will be in its new home.

That is rather strange to have to get a permit to purchase a handgun, sounds like Illinois not a Southern state or at least one south of the Mason Dixon Line which is in Maryland. At least your State honors or reciprocates with my state and in my state I have a handgun carry permit which allows me to carry openly if I so choose or concealed which I do most of the time except when going to the range then I carry openly!

Just got mine this past week and made it to the range yesterday. I had very high expectations and left very pleased after shooting 300 rounds. Everything smooth and kept a 5" group @ 15 yards. No doubt I am the limiting factor but for the 1st time out, I was pleased.

Good luck with yours.

I had mine out again at the range last night and another 150 rounds through it without a problem...and a big smile on my face. I have an IDPA match tomorrow, one at my local club, and I'm so tempted to shoot my 9c in it. Great GREAT little gun...I may even like it more than my full-size 9mm!

Buy the 9c without the laser and spend the money you save on 1 extra magazine, holster, mag holder, and ammo.

I shot a rental at a local range it was a full size but I liked the way it shot and felt. after 25 rounds with the range gun I was shooting groups as good as I did with my .22 and 38spl.
I hate waiting for the damn purchase permit

You do not have to have a permit to buy a gun in NC, if you have a CCW, otherwise it runs through your local SD and takes a few days.

Enjoy shooting, welcome to the Club!!

I am scheduled to take the CCW course June 4 and 6 But wanted to get the weapon I intend to carry and qualify for the ccw with it. So I went to the Meck. Cnty SD about a week and a half ago to apply.
It is now a waiting game.

I've had an M&P9 FS for about 6 months, and just picked up the 9C yesterday. It carries so much nicer than the FS. What's weird is that I seem to shoot the C model a little better, and the trigger in my new "C" isn't at all gritty like the FS trigger.
Shot 200 rounds of mixed ammo through the "C" this morning, no issues at all. Great pistol!

Gotta love good old Charlotte, the Redneck city that pretends it's in the N.E. lol. You'll get the permit eventually, the Sheriff in M.C. feels the need to jerk gun owners around.

Congrats on your choice, you chose a fine gun. Enjoy it.

It sure looks that way. I wonder how long it will take to get the CCW

90 days, maybe 120 if you are unlucky. Even in the best of counties it takes 60 days to get through Raleigh.

Gotta say, there are advantages to living in oHIo...

Took the class over a Saturday/Sunday (12 hours total). Drove to the Walmart Sunday evening to have passport photos done. Went to the Franklin County Sheriff Monday afternoon at 2 PM and filled out the app. Received a call Tuesday morning at 10 AM that my CW permit was ready and waiting.

Yeah, they run national criminal background checks, mental health and medical checks, it's not a rubber stamp deal in NC. My opinion is a simple criminal check ought to be enough, but they don't ask me...

according to the website. North Carolina Sheriffs' Association, by law, they have 45 days to do the background check and issue or deny the cc. It changed from 90 to 45 last year.

Well that's a needed change and one I had not heard about...good info. The out on the requirement in the past was the delay in getting the mental health clearances, I hope that loophole is closed. I also hope the larger counties will adhere to the standard this time. Sheriff's in NC tend to be one man islands in their minds, which is either a really good or bad thing depending on the man.

You can get a CCW certificate online with no shooting or classes.
Good for N.C. - Texas - Ohio - Tenn and a few other states. It is good for carry in 26 states.

You just read their info and take a true or false test. They even have a video of an attorney explaining how it works.

You need to explain this to the guy who was giving his students the CCW class completion Certs with reduced shooting and class time, he's charged with multiple felonies...and his students with a felony apiece for lying on their CCW affidavits. Apparently the DA is not as versed in CCW as you are.

Seriously, you are being defrauded, it's not legal, I don't care what the schister in the video says.

That is definitely not legal in Texas. Texas requires a minimum of 10 hours of instruction/range time for one.

Edit: Ahh I read the fine print. They are issuing you a non-resident concealed license for Virginia and allowing the reciprocation agreements to let you carry with that out of state.

Excellent move on getting the CT lasergrips on your M&P for HD. I have the M&P FS in 9mm and 45ACP with lasergrips and laserguard light. They integrate like they were part of the gun, and they are extremely intuitive to use. The light on the weapon does not eliminate the need to have a handheld tactical light, however, if you have to deal with a BG at 3 am, you can identify your potential target with a quick flash of the gun light. Putting the red dot on the BG's chest should give you confidence, and give him pause. For night time intrusions, I believe the laser equipped pistol completely trumps a shotgun, even with a forend light. Not to mention that you well might permanently sacrifice some of your hearing to an interior shotgun blast.

Still not legal if you are a NC resident, you have to go through the NC process.

Default At long last

Well it took 27 Days here in Meck. cnty. I picked the permit well actually got the three allowed and went to my LGS and took possession of my M&P 9c with CT laser grips. Went home and spent a few hours getting used to the pistol, field stripped it a few times, dry fire and practiced trigger control using the laser. Tomorrow I will take it to the range and put a couple of hundred rounds thru it. I want to use it for my ccw qualifying on wed evening so I need to put a good amount of range time in.
I will let you know how it goes at the range. I have 115 and 124 gr ammo

Default Congrats on your M&P 9c

It's a great package and is quite versatile.

Great for CCW( I CCW a M&P 40C). At night you can take advantage of the rail and add a light for night stand duty. Also, you can add a full size magazine and up you capacity to around 17+1. I will also mention the Apex kits to fine tune the trigger weight pull too.

Just my 2cents. Enjoy your new 9mm!

Default M&P 9c a keeper

I got to shoot the 9c today and put about 150 rounds thru it.
I am sure happy with it. I shot 100 rounds of 115gr and then went to 124 gr for the last 50 rounds It seemed I was more accurate with the 124 gr.
The ct laser grip was close to perfect but about 1/2 inch high at 7 yards compared to the sites so a small turn or two and they are perfect. Shooting with a laser is almost like cheating lol. and WAY faster to get "on target".
The trigger is so much different then on my mdl 19 and High Standard .22 auto but after a few rounds I got used to it.
I also used my Uplula mag loader to reload the mags and that thing is worth every penny.
All in all I am a very happy camper so much so that I put my name on the wait list for the M&P 9 Shield. before I left the range
