Question IWB Shield Holsters

I was wondering what IWB holsters people were finding out there. I'm also interested in what they liked or didn't like after some time wearing them.

I'm looking for one and wanted to get some advice before making a decision.

What holster do you have and what do think about it?

I have one from pjholster.com and I love it. Paul is great to work with and I find his holsters to be very comfortable.

I also have one from pjholster and am very pleased with it.

In addition, I bought a Sticky Holster with the intention of using it more for a pocket holster than an IWB. However, it works great as an IWB but not so great as a pocket holster (holster comes out of pocket with gun).

I just got my JP IWB Kydex with the 15 degree FBI cant for my Sheild.
Well made, fits the weapon fine, but I am the wrong build, I guess, for IWB. I will sell it if someone wants it. I am out of town til May 20th, but could drop it in the mail then.

I'm going to a OWB for it. Open to suggestions.

I use a Comptac Infidel or a Sticky Holster. They are both great..

I am a huge fan of Raven Concealments Phantom holster. I talk about it in my review video. Here's the review video:

S&W Shield Review - YouTube

Jump to 12:00 in the video to see the holster.

The Raven carries so comfortably that you'll honestly forget you're wearing it. It's also convertible, so you can wear it inside or outside depending on your mood.

The only down side is they're a bit pricey, but I've yet to meet someone who bought one that didn't like it.

There are some other great holster options, many already listed in this thread. But I thought you might want to check them out.

Here's a link: Phantom Modular Holster

Default Comp-Tac MTAC

I like the Comp-Tac line of holsters for carry for my other brands of guns, and I also like the Remora holsters too.

Here is the MTAC with the Shield. I only had to order the kydex shell, as these holsters are convertible to use with other brands and sizes of pistols:

I am with MilitaryArms .. Raven Concealment Systems, their Phantom holster can be worn either way, IWB soft loops or OWB. They also have mag carriers. All Raven products have a lifetime warranty that follows the product.

Here's my White Hat. I've been carrying it for about a week. I'll post a review and video soon; still T&Eing but so far so good!

That's the first Kydex holster I'd seen that was painted.
Kinda too bad that nobody sees it when it's being worn.

I have a RKBA hybrid (similar to crossbreed and comptac) and a desantis insider. I just got the RKBA in the mail yesterday but so far I like it a lot. It's more comfortable than any of the crossbreeds I have and the comptacs. The desantis insider isn't too bad for the price but it doesn't stay open to reholster easily and it can be hard to draw because of how low in the pants it sits. The benefit to the low ride is it conceals very nicely.

Bottom line is a good holster is a good holster no matter what gun it's for. You can get a crossbreed, RKBA or comptac for any gun and have a good, comfortable holster.

I also bought a Raven Concealment phantom for my Shield (and also my XDm 3.8 9mm).

I just received an email this morning from Raven that said:

Your order is headed for final finishing and quality control checks! Once completed your order will head to the shipping department. You will receive an email notification when your order has shipped.

I've had 3 Raven holsters, and got rid of all of them. They are fine for OWB, but not comfortable at all IWB. YMMV. I am not a fan of the compact holsters RCS makes as there is waaaaaaay too much kydex beneath the muzzle.

Currently using a PHLster Skelton for my Shield while I wait for my TT Gunleather High Ride Pancake to get made.

Here is a $55 Crossbreed knock-off that is awesome. Or $65 in Horse:

I've had 2 CBSTs and they are ridiculously comfortable. They tend to squeak a LOT when new, but a little saddle soap will take care of that.

If you don't mind waiting about ¼ of a year, Milt Sparks is making the VM-2 for the Shield. You can get something inexpensive or simple in the meantime and when the VM-2 gets in, you will appreciate it even more.

I have been using a Bianchi IWB 100 holster I bought for a Glock 27. It works very nicely with my Shield.

Do you prefer leather or polymer? How large of a frame do you have? How do you normally dress? Have you ever CCW'd IWB before?

These are all things you might want to throw out there when asking about holsters

I'm going to give these guys a shot if none of my current holsters fit the Shield: Premium Molded Holster Kit | Old Faithful Holsters The Shield option is in the pull down menu.

You can buy it pre-assembled, but you save money by just screwing it together yourself. IMO, this is what these simple kydex/leather type of holsters should cost. If it works out well, I'll never waste money on Crossbreed again. Best thing is, you can buy another premolded shell if you change guns or just a sheet of Kydex if you have a gun that is hard to find holsters for.

Old Faithful Holsters has been around for a couple years now. When he started out, he was selling JUST the kits, then expanded into the pre-assembled holsters. The design is pretty much tired & true, so the only issue would be the quality of the leather and thickness/quality of the Kydex. While I haven't purchased anything from him, I haven't heard any complaints on any of the forums about the quality of materials, or delivery time.

If you look at his videos, the leather is of high quality as is the thicker Kydex then CBST uses. IMO, Crossbreed is surviving on it's name alone since similar holsters have popped up all over providing more options at lower prices. My CBST worked okay until I got rid of the gun that fit into it. The Kydex they use is also very thin even compared to much cheaper holsters.

The replaceable shell feature was one of the reasons I purchased the MTAC a few years ago, and was getting ready to order a replacement shell for my broke one, but apparently Comp-Tac has changed them and I have the Generation 1 leather backing which they are no longer supporting or making replacement shells for... so lucky me.... I have to buy a whole new holster.

I hope everyone realizes 'Crossbreed' itself is a knock-off, they didn't come up with the hybrid design. If I recall correctly Tucker Gunleather did.

Anyway, right now I'm using a Smartcarry or Sticky Holster, for me the Sticky Holster is MUCH better than the Remora. I'm not sure yet what my main holster will be, in the past I've always used Garrett Industries Silent Thunder in both OWB and IWB and loved the leather lined kydex.

I got a compact kit from Old Faithful Holsters, shipping was quick.! The kit was fairly easy to get together, *watch the tutorials I made a post on another thread w/ pics already. But the short of it is, very comfortable even for all day carry, quick presentation of firearm w/ alil practice of course.. An the price was right, the materials are of good quality, Kydex is thicker than most others an the leather seems to form well to the body. I've made some slight tweaks to it since these pics were taken, shaved alil off the Kydex and leather between the trigger guard an front of grip also shaved off alil of the leather by backstrap/beavertail section of the gun to make for a more positive draw..

I've owned several VM2s. Awesome holsters, but the wait is closer to 6 months+.

If Sparks makes a holster for a Shield, the VM2 is by far the best designed and most comfortable IWB holster on the market, if you can wear a cover garment. Unfortunately, the Kydex clips available for tucking are hard to use.

If you must tuck, a single-clip holster works best, since it's hard to keep the shirttail smooth between two clips, or to pull it out of the way when needed. Most tuckable holsters (VM2 excepted) use a single screw on each clip, which works loose in short order. Rather than spend a bundle for tucking, I use Blade-Tech UCH holsters (which use two screws for the belt clip).

The Shield is pretty new, so the best bet is a holster from S&W, or a custom job from Sparks or Ryan Grizzle.

For a tiny pistol like the Shield, you want a very high ride holster, so you can get your fingers around the grip in a hurry. I have a Grizzle "City Slicker" for a Kahr PM45, with the clips in the highest of three positions.

Are you using a proper gun belt? Try any other holsters or positions on the belt?

Sorry to hear that...it's still good to go for the original gun, right? You can always sell it off to help offset the cost of the new one, too.

The Gen2 models have been good for me, in that there is no squeaking/creaking like some of the other holsters I've got taking up room in a drawer.

If you can hold off until the holiday weekend, I've noticed that Comp-Tac will usually have 10-15% off sale codes usable for a short time. I've ordered most of my gear from them during those times, because I also have to pay TX sales tax on my orders

I really like the Silent Thunder holsters. Leather-lined Kydex is very nice. This reminds me, I still need to sell my P238 holster and spare mag...

I don't have a shield yet ( sigh ) but I carry my M&P9 in either a Galco King Tuk or more often a Remora. I plan on replacing the Galco, hard to get the gun out, with a White Hat IWB and am going to look into the Sticky holster although I really like the Remora.

All I can say is get a MTAC from Com-TAC they are expensive but so is the drawer full of holsters that I am slowly thinning out, with the Minotaur MTAC you can always change out the bodies of the holster for any weapon they make the kydex for!

Sparks is making the VM2 I have one on order. Until them I have th PJHolster and it is very nice. Slim and very functional.

Default IWB Shield Holsters

Has anyone checked with N82Tactical to see if they make a Pro Holster for the Shield? I have one for my Ruger SR9c and it is soooo comfortable to wear, good retention, easy to draw and reholster.

If they don't list one email them and ask for one, if he starts getting an interest in them he will offer one. You will like this holster.

I emailed them a couple of weeks ago. They plan on making one in the PRO model. Wouldn't hurt to keep emailing them so they know there is a large interest out there.

Ill also agree to what has been posted regarding the Comp Tac MTAC. I use it for my XDm 3.8 and love it.

However, for the heat of the summer and working outside a few days a week I have decided to give this a try.

I picked up a BlackHawk size 3 tuckable brown holster on the cheap from Amazon the other day. It gets delivered today, so I'll see how it is. I may also have to get a good look at the MTAC...

Well, it just showed up. I'll have to try it on to be sure, but this may force me to look for an alternative. I'll take a couple pics too.

I've been using a cheapo Blackhawk in nylon, works ok but it's got that unversal fit to it.... It is comfortable and all and will work just fine till my remora gets here. Holsters for the shield are more scarce then the gun itself around me.

Well I purchased a hybrid holster from Old Faithful Holsters, Steel clips, Horse hide, with Kydex holster. Like Crossbreed, Like White Hat, Like Comp-tac, but like a quality holster for $45 better. Only real difference is that I put in the screws. Not riveted like Crossbreed. For $14 I picked up another Kydex for my BT.380 to swap out on the same leather. Four screws to change guns.

Any chance you could post some pictures and quick review of the shield with public secret holster?

I just got my Remora with the re-inforced top and sweat shield. Been using it for a few days now and I like it. Easy to put in-waist-band, the top stays open for one hand re-holstering and does not even move from where I tuck it in

I had a PPS holster by don Hume and it fits my shield Perfectly!
I carry IWB appendix (1:00) and this setup works like a charm for me. I can conceal with a thin fitted t-shirt.

Default Holster for Shield

I have a Crossbreed feels great and perfect fit. It was a 3 week wait after ordering, but it's a very comfortable holster. A friend of mine has the Hidden Hybrid Holster, similar design to the Crossbreed with a suede inner lining and it has a full length sight channel. This holster is worth taking a look at.

Default Single clip Kydex IWB

What single clip holster options are out there for the shield. I have a wild bill's but find it too bulky so looking for a kydex. I can't wear a full size double clip. Any advice greatly appreciated.

Holsters seem to be about as opinionated topic as guns. You can ask ten people and get elven different answers. For me, I have been happy with my hidden hybrid holster. Can be used as IWB or OWB. Either way very comfortable.
