jdizzel:

In the last year I owned a Kahr CM9 shot 650 rounds sent it back three times for repairs-- nosed dived about one per box. Third trip Kahr cut me a check in full for the gun and the rest is history.

I purchased a Beretta Nano last November, shot 1,334 rounds and she failed to extract 11 times. I sent her back one time for repair.

Cabela's traded my Nano problem child for a very well behaved child named Shield. Child doesn't complain what I feed her and she always digests her food properly.

If my wife ever wants a ccw in a heartbeat I would pick up another Shield 9mm. No question the M&P Shield is ccw gun of the year . No jams, shoots tight groups and yes I can pocket conceal in Dockers 36x32 and draw from my De Santi model "E1" in one second. I am thinking about upgrading to Big Dot Night Sights. My goal is draw, sweep safety, acquire target and shoot in 1 1/2 seconds. I love the large three dot sight standard but for self defense quickness is the name of the game and big dots are quicker on target over a notch and post sight and when shooting 7 yards or less which is a self defense range I can sacrifice tights groups which the current sights provide for increased speed which big dots provide.

My Shield is awesome. It has very quickly become my EDC. Accurate, no malfunctions, carries well and comfortable to shoot - recoils more like a big gun than a subcompact. I'm going to need to get a second Shield for Mrs Aahzz. If you can find one, buy it.

My Shield is GREAT, 300+ rounds through it so far and NO FTF or any other problems. It's 9MM, I'm even considering a 40 in the future.

I put the TALON Granular stick-on grip panels on it and they work for me, some say they're TOO GRIPPY, they also make rubberized panels.

They can be made even better with APEX TRIGGER PARTS/KITS.

There are two Shields in my family; his and hers. We have experienced no problems whatsoever. They have functioned and performed 100% since day one right out of the box. If I look hard enough around the house I'm sure I'd find a 9C and 45C that have also been flawless. My preferred edc for off duty / backup the past ten years has been a Kahr PM9. That statement speaks for itself. However, the PM9 must now move over and make room for the Shield. It won't replace the PM9, but it'll definitely share carry time.

Mine's been great so far. The recoil is very manageable and tame compared to other 9mm Single Stack Subcompacts (PF-9, LC9, DB9, or Nano), but when it comes to firearms, I don't take other people's word for it... I need to shoot a gun myself (rent, or try someone else's) before buying.

If you have a range/store nearby that has rentals, try one for yourself. If it's gonna be for your Wife, she obviously needs to try it herself... But she'll probably like it too.

I can't speak for the shield yet... just got mine yesterday in .40 and haven't had a chance to get it to the range yet. But if it performs as my other M&P's it should be a winner. All of my M&P's have been flawless to date with more than 1000+ rounds through them. I say, GET ONE!

Had an LC9, a Kahr pocket 45 and both were not reliable. I have been caring a 642 S&W Airweight and have enjoyed it as I know I can trust it. I bought a Shield 9mm and have put hp +p's and standard fmj's through it and have not had one malf. The gun shoots where I point it and, even with these old arthritic hands, I can shoot it all day long with out suffering the next day. That is something I can not say about my 642. My personal view of the gun has been great so take that and the rest of the post's with a grain of salt as your experience may vary. I do not think you would be disappointed but the final decision is yours.
Good luck, Frank.

Punctuation is your friend.

All the reviews I've read, even on non-M&P forums, have been great reviews of their shield.

Personally I don't feel the need to have a shield. The M&P compacts are fine.

I agree with Russ. I've never seen a new pistol get the kind of reviews the Shield has, never. I say get one & join in on the history in the making

I carried a Kahr PM-9 for two years now I carry my Shield 9mm.

It's pocket carry for me in a Desantis. I'm very pleased with the Shield and have decided to purchase another in a few months and also other pistols in the M&P line.

Not everyone. I have a slew of M&P's and yesterday I picked up a Shield that was in the right caliber at the right price. Could not hand it back to the salesman fast enough. I am left handed and with no controls on the right side of the gun I wanted nothing to do with it. I'll continue to 'suffer' carrying a (ambidextrous) 9C. IF you are right handed you will probably love it like everyone else.

I really like my 9mm one. I even sold my Kahr PM9 after getting it. And, now I am looking for Shield #2

Wasn't there a thread on round count? It would be interesting to know the total # of rounds shot by members without probs. Thousands by now I'd say, can't beat that!

With your arsenal seems you got things covered, why exactly are you wanting a shield? You want one just to get a shield? I mean that's fine, but with a 9c, and a .357c, and a BG for a pocket gun I don't know where a shield would fit for you..
IMO. But if you want a shield, by all means get one, why does it matter if we say yah or nah?

Each new firearm I get means 1 more option for me. I recently added a Shield 9mm to my collection and it is a fine option indeed.

I'm mid sixties and own a 642/LG-105 sight, and must say it beats my old hands up something fierce. It definately isn't a range gun, but a great CC as far as weight and great pocket carry. Got my Shield 9 and took it directly to the range out of the box and ran 100 rnds through it with nary a hic cup. Instant love affair. While there I decided to fire a few rounds through the 642. Bang, bang, bang, bang, CLICK. ????. Counted the holes in the target, four. Opened it up and one unfired round with no mark at all on the primer. Figured bad ammo and loaded it again with fresh rounds, pointed it downrange, CLICK. It's now on it's way to the factory. I have nothing but great things to say about my Shield 9, and guess what, I use the safety with no problems. Get one ASAP.

If you can get the Shield, because you can not have too many guns, unless like me you have run out of space in your signature, I am still waiting for the 40 caliber to come to one of my gun stores hopefully before my birthday in August!

Oh Jeeeze, I'm in the same boat. Got the M&P40c, G26, PPS 9mm and Kahr CM9...and now, I'm probably gonna wind up getting two Shields...a .40 and a 9mm

Mij,

I saw that once in 30 years, I was taking a course w/ a good friend, he was shooting a brand new (at the time) model 65, when his firing pin end broke off.

At least he could have clubbed someone with his, your 642 is a bit light for that
