Easier to just buy a second shield! I think S&W has them for sale directly.

If you call S&W you can backorder them. They are 4-6 weeks out from shipping.

That's interesting. Wonder what the possible consequences are of running 9mm in a 40? Not something I'd be brave enough to try though lol.

You talking about actually shooting 9mm rounds through the .40? or using the .40 mag in the 9mm shield?

I had a friend accidentally load 9mm into a Springfield XDm chambered for 40 and it would not fire the 9mm rounds (thankfully).

If you mean using a .40 mag in a 9mm, with 9mm ammo, it will probably work, to one degree or another. I know the Beretta M96 mag is (or at least used to be) identical to the 9mm mag, as far as dimensions and follower.

The breechface of a 9mm is different from that of the 40 caliber and so it will not work Breechface - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Sent from my keyboard using the stuff that I can use like all the letters and stuff!

Yup .. with the HUGE demand of the gun and having enough mags for the orders, we are last to get served. That is to be expected. It's the same way with other models. I ordered two and I am giving one as a surprise to a friend who did the trigger work on mine and would not take any $$ from me. He called it R&D and was just glad that I brought it in immediately for him to inspect. I bought mine on 4/13 and Cabelas was the fist store to receive shipments to sell in my area. I bought the very first Shield they sold.
I would guess the mags won't appear until the demand eases some, like what happened with the Bodyguard, but this is much bigger.

I actually found three on the shelf at my LGS. I bought one for myself and the other two for friends that ended up not wanting them if anybody is interested. The price was a little high but I figured you gotta pay to play. If anybody is looking I would sell the two for what I paid plus shipping.

Message me if you want to know the price, I'm not sure what this sites rules are about selling things outside the classifieds and I don't want to violate them. They are 9MM and I will say they were a bit more than $38.

Now they are $31.06 What a load of garbage. To go up that much in less than 24hrs two bucks is two bucks. Bully for them I guess, I'll bet it's the supply & demand factor. Still stinks though.

I got 3 Shield Mags directly from the factory.
I called customer service today (5/16) and ordered 3 Shield flat/flush bottom magazines. The lady said that is what is currently available/in stock for immediately shipping out. The extended magazines are not.

I'm with you. Personally I think $30+ for any mag is too much. Mags are overpriced IMO, they should run about half what they cost. Not so many years back mags were better priced, but like everything else they went up to.

I saw that to. I've been watching that for about a week, and the expected date keeps moving forward, it did once today.

Glad I decided to order one anyhow when it was $29
Just wait awhile and you'll see them at places like 44mag for street prices.

MidwayUSA is fine if you place a decent order.
By that, I mean they do have an extra handling fee for orders less than $28 (or so), so they may not be worth it if you're buying a few nickle & dime items that total less than $30.
For larger orders, their shipping is on par (or better) than many of the other guys.

I personally plan on just struggling through with the two magazines I received with the gun for a couple of months. By mid-summer, the normal suppliers of magazines should start receiving enough magazines that the retail prices should have settled down.
I refuse to pay MSRP for a spare magazine.

What do you guys see the prices for these mags ending up at?
$25? $20? Less?
Considering some were paying $40-$50 +tax just last week, I kinda figured $29 was a good price.

It is, but look at what places like 44mag charges for a full size M&P magazine compared to what S&W charges. Hopefully the Shield mags will go down to affordable prices at some point as well. It's just too new and the demand is too high.
I remember some little .380 magazines costing almost $40 because of demand. Grant it, mags should defiantly be cheaper ,but they got you where they want you since it's something you need to feed that semi-auto.

No luck last time I checked. I'm going to wait until the fever dies down and see where prices bottom out.

With the extra goodies you got I'd be fine with a little dirt
They might have been used for test firing, who knows, if so they may be broken in a bit. Enjoy!

Midway has again moved the date forward to 5-27 from 5-24. Funny as big as they are you would think they would have gotten some sooner, oh well.

I really don't think S&W saw the huge success of the Shield coming, hence the mag shortage. I also see the price at Grabagun went back down.

At Midway, beware of the "Expected date in stock" feature. It is not often reliable! It may continue moving for weeks. Sign up to be notified when it comes in to stock- that works well for me. Never had any problem with their shipping or cust srvc.

Don't know how long you've been into the M&P's. But they were like that when they first came out with the M&P line too. FS mags were hard to find for quite awhile, got caught up,hard to find again and then finely got caught up with the demand.
Wish they would have done a two mag rebate (or $50.), like they did with the FS M&P's. At least we got two mags and not just one (???) like the M&P 22's.

Getting extra mags is tough with almost ANY new model, regardless of brand, unless they share the same mags with an existing model. It was tough for about a year to find G26 mags, XDsc mags, LC9 mags and it's still tough to find XDMc Flush mags.
It'll probably be tough to find XD-S mags for a while too.
