Second shield
Ok so I was able to pick up a shield .40 last week and totally love it. The wife even loves it and asked for her one. So I told her I was on top of two lists for a 9mm so she could have one too. So to my surprise today while she is out shopping she sees another shield on a shelf. Knowing how few and far between they are she bought it. Problem is not thinking it is also a .40. So now we have 2 .40 cal shields. What luck?!?

Although it is sweet she bought another shield and we could share ammo we decided to not shoot it and trade it for the first 9mm we can find. I would rather have one of each rather than 2 of same cal.

I just purchased the 9mm and have been thinking that maybe I should have gotten the 40 instead, having been a 1911 .45 guy for many years. Would lke to hear opinions on which one you purchased and why.

I purchased a .40 because it was the first one I could find. I really wanted the 9mm but could not find one. I am still waiting to find one. I am pleased with the .40 but will trade or sell this second .40 to get a 9mm as soon as I find one.

I got the 9mm simply because I have other 9mm's and no 40's.
Plus I prefer the 9mm over the 40 for several reasons, less recoil, cheaper to shoot, and the nine, has more round capacity. JMO

Hey, let us know how the .40 shoots, OK? See what keeping those follow up shots on target is like.

Tom:
The above quote is why I bought a 9mm.
Gold Dot 124 grain JHP +P short barrel is an excellent defense round. 13 inch penetration, nearly all the mass is retained and mushrooms even fired through 4 layers of denim.
Imagine a wound 13 inches deep and 3 inches wide. (Confirmed with ballistic gel see youtube) A garden hose is less than an inch wide and look at the volume of liquid that travels through a garden hose. Don't want to sound morbid but a 3 inch wide gash is a fire hose and we all can imagine how long it would take a fast beating heart to empty the body of blood with a fire hose size gash 13inches deep.

Yes the .40 shoots awesome! I actually can control my follow up shots better than I do with my issued Glock 22. I think that is due to the slimmer grip(I have small hands). After 350 rounds thru it I am very comfortable shooting it. I just really want a 9mm. Also my department will be switching from .40 to 9's soon so it will also be more convenient! Don't get me wrong I will be keeping at least one .40 shield but don't need 2....

I got mine in .40 because all my other M&P's are in this caliber. Since I carry all of them at one time or another I just made it simple for myself. Now I just have to check that I have the right spare mag with me.

I just picked up my 2'nd Shield this afternoon, my dealer got in 5 40s and 5 9mms, a few hours later they were all gone. I tried a 40 and just like the 9mm better, now if they come out in 357 Sig I'd need one.

I'm planning on purchasing a Shield 40 for my wife's 40th birthday. I hope she likes it, but neither of us have shot 40s. She currently shoots a Sig Pro 2022 in 9. She didn't care for my .357s or .45s, especially the short-barreled versions.
I hope she likes it, but if not, I'll inherit a sweet CCW and replace her Shield 40 with a Shield 9.

Academy Sports in Lake Charles supposed to have one. They can hold it for 24 hours.
Best of luck. My second shield arrived today tranferred from Academy in the Valley, south Texas.
Called a dealer in Richmond, Texas today sold his last one yesterday for $499.99 CRAZY!!

Second Shield
The Shield is a hot item right now. It has had great reviews and a lot of people want one. I'm thinking of getting either a Shield or a M&P 9c haven't decided which yet.

I bought two Shields, both in 9mm. I bought the first one from Gun Genie, when they were first listed and then the second a few days later at a local gun shop. I wanted my wife and I to have the same carry pistol, in the same caliber, so we could easily share magazines, ammo, and have the same manual of arms in our carry guns.

My wife wants a Shield, so I put 20% down and got on a list at a LGS.
They told me the wait would be several months.
So, I ordered one about 2 1/2 hours away, and I am having it shipped next week. A few hours later a LGS called me with a Shield 9mm in stock.
So, a member here asked about it, and I passed on the info. He ended up getting a great deal.
I really didn't want a Shield for myself, but I am getting very excited.
These M&PS are addicting!
If you get a chance to get one, don’t hesitate. For me, my 9mm compact was harder to find.

I live in a small town and they've had one each time 9mm. They always say just came in. I'm guessing less population means better chance of getting one. They actually lowered their price down 25.

Have her watch "The Road" and see what she thinks then. I've seen the movie ,but according to most guys that have watched it with their significant other, it either changes their minds about guns, makes them tell the guy to get more ammo and/or guns or wants to stock up for a disaster.

Interesting as I had the opportunity to shoot both side by side (my wife's 9 and someone at the range while I was there had a .40) and I could not make out any difference in the recoil. Definitely surprised me.

It (9 Shield), was one of the first ones to come in and I have all the other 9's. Simple. Liked it,bought it.
Don't have any 40's (yet) I prefer the FS 45's. When the price settles down and the dust settles the 40 Shield could be my first 40 if I stumble on a good deal and maybe a FS 40 to match.

Well it looks like I may be still stuck(if you call it that) with this second .40 shield. None of the LGS anywhere near me can seem to get a 9. Oh well maybe I'll have some luck at the upcoming gun show?

when i first got mine i had a choice between a 40 or 9. they had 5 of the 9's and like 25 of the 40's. I went with a 9. Then yesterday a shop called and told me that "mine" came in and i'd have 15 days to pick it up. Didn't even know I was on a list. hhmm. Though I called them and told them to pass it along since I got mine back in april. Now someone else is getting to enjoy too. I'm so kind haha.

I'm thinking this second 40 may find its way to the classifieds soon so I will have the cash in hand to grab up a 9 as soon as I spot one.

I am very happy with my 9. When my wife and I went to the range, she did not like the shield. She prefers her LCR. Both are great guns.
Now she wants us to get a membership to the range.
Yes, I love her.

A range membership is very nice. Summer here in Arizona is a little warm for outdoor shooting most days so we hit the range. I was surprised that our range was half empty on the 4th. I had called the day before to reserve a couple of lanes and we were alone in our section for quite a while. A lot of people missed out!
