Now I'm a Believer, I held a Shield today for the first time.
Now I found out for myself what everybody's so excited about. Nice...
My local GS wanted $499.00 Period, end of story.
I figured, I've got other guns to hold me over a little while.

While the guns are new, & hard to get, the stores want to get the most they can for them. Once each store has 5 in stock, & the demand fades, the price should be $400, or a bit less. Where I work, we have 10 on order, but only received 3 so far. They all sold the day they arrived, so that's why the price is high. Sort of like when a new Corvette is introduced, if you want the first one, it's $10,000 extra. Just have patience, the price will soon come down. GARY N4KVE

If it were me I would never give my business to them. That's highway robbery. Pure Greed.

I paid $375+tax to my LGS as soon as it was released. No price gouging, and amongst the best prices I've seen. Some good honest guys there.

I paid $435.00 plus tax and got a free extra mag. I was thinking I might get a better price but I wanted an extra mag anyway so I was OK with it.
Great gun so that sure took any disappointment out of the equation.

It came with a total of 3mags? Wonder where they got the extra mag to give you. Was it a 7 or an 8?

Wanting $499??? See ya!
Hopefully, he's not the only store in town.
$395 for mine and I had my choice between the 9mm I got, or a .40 they also got in.

I just picked up one today from a member of a local forum for $400 (never fired). What a sweet pistol! All I can say is, "Wow!"

I've got two of them. First one, then another for my wife a week later. I paid substantially less than MSRP for both, but would've gladly paid MSRP for the second one after shooting the first. After purchasing both of mine I noticed one of the LGS's in my area finally got one. They had it marked at $499. Don't know what they sold it for but it didn't last long.

Yea, don't pay that! Sure it's hot and there but find one somewhere else. I only paid 419.00+tax. Which is still pretty high compared to what some ppl got it for. Call around. I had to take a trip 5hrs away from home and called a few big shops along the way. Grabbed one or two weeks after release. It's an awesome gun but don't do it.

It's high, but if you want the gun that's what it costs today. It's about $70 over what it should be, but how many of us blow $70 on morning coffee and paper in a month?

Lemme guess, the name of the store begins with "Gander" and ends with "Mountain". Am I right?

It was the stores "open house" weekend and the store gave an extra mag for any pistol sold that weekend. I wanted the gun, had it on hold, it came in that weekend, got $15.00 off list, add in the extra mag and I went for it. They have not delivered on the extra mag yet but I am not concerned. As for me, I asked for the flush fit mag as my extra.
Frank.

Well for some of you .. you know where NOT to shop/support. My LGS still has them listed well below MSRP. I just bought a Ruger 1022 Take Down for $300 from them, another hard to find/buy quality gun. Before that I bought a M&P-22 pistol from them for $285.

Excluding the cost of the phone calls, assuming you get 20mpg on gas priced at $3.60 and averaged 45 mph during your trip . . . and counting only gas, tires, and 6,000 mi services . . . you actually spent ~$470 and 5 hours for the gun.
$499 may be really high . . . may be too high . . . but it isn't looking too bad to me vs. your "bargain".

Yep, something some forget to calculate - TCO (Total Cost of Ownership). Not just the base price, but what is it really costing you overall.

My 40 was MSRP and I'm happy with it
It took my LGS over a month to get the 40 Shield I wanted. I was the first one on their list. They'd had had three of the 9mm but no 40s. MSRP for both. Got tired of waiting there and got on another list at a shop about 40 miles from here that had had several of both and is selling them for $399. Still waiting on that list -- about two weeks now -- but I'm confident I'll be getting a call on it soon. Meantime, LGS calls and my 40 had come in, and I went and picked it up an hour later. My dilemma now is, should I buy the second one, which I don't need but man, that's a good price, a great gun, and a short-supply item. Point is, shopping around can get a good price for you; not everyone is pushing the $500 envelope on this because I think they realize supply will be slowly increasing given the initial reception of the pistol. What a great product by a great American company.

Well, several people including myself have ordered one online. By the time you add the shipping and transfer fees, it is around $500.
Unfortunately, I could have had one today for $399 plus tax at a LGS. But, I already ordered one online for $424 plus shipping and transfer fee.
I did not want to take a chance and wait 6 months or more.
There is a LGS that is taking orders, and they require full payment of $449 plus tax and no refund. They told me that it could be a year. There were about 20 people on the list.
Before I made my purchase, I got on a list with 20% down. I guess I will have 2 in the future. They told me it would be about 6-12 months.

Yes, I am on the list at Vances. To get on the list you have to put 20% down. They told me that there are around 50 people ahead of me.
Blackwing requires full payment and no refund regardless of waiting period.
Are you looking because I know a place that had one yesterday in Columbus?

No just curious. I figured that if anyone has a large allotment, Vance's would.
Looks like the Shield has surpassed all expectations!

I am not worried about the wait because I have one on the the way for my wife. I ordered it before the LGS called me, and I will also have one for myself in the future.

My LGS called yesterday to say my name is next on the list at $419 & I didn't have to put anything down when they put me on the list..

Ah... Guess I wasn't clear. If I was already making the trip in the first place then the gun was just an added cost. So I suppose you could add it to the gun price but I added those cost to the original trip. Since it wasnt like I drove out of the way for it.

I shot a shield last week. I can't tell you how impressed I was. I shot tight groups at 10 yards. The trigger, especially the reset, are fantastic for a pocket 9.
You can shop for 10 bucks here and 20 there, but if you need a concealed carry pistol, buy it when you find it. The few bucks you save by shopping will be inconsequential over the years you will own and enjoy the gun.
