M&P 9mm magazine release button reversal problem
Being a left handed shooter I reversed the magazine release button on my full size M&P 9mm. When firing the magazine follower hangs up on the hole for the magazine release causing a jam.
I was curious if anyone else had experienced this problem and if so how did they correct it other than returning the release back to its original position. Thanks

You'll find plenty of info about this if you search here. I too had the same problem. I called S&W and the guy I spoke to denied knowing anything about a problem. He told me to just send it back and they would check it out. I followed the instructions found on a post here on this forum, and lightly sanded down the corner of the follower. You can make the follower stick if you push it down with a dowel or screwdriver. You'll see what area needs to be sanded down. Since doing that simple trick to my 3 mags, no more problems.
I contacted S&W again the other day about another issue, and I asked the guy once again if they had heard about this issue. He didn't admit anything, but offered to send me a new part for the gun. (I think it's the mag catch). I have a full size, and the compact too, and did the simple mods to all my mags. I have hundreds of rounds through both with no further problems.
Good luck!

Thanks. I tried the search function but did not come up with any results, probably the way I worded the search.
I had considered modifying the follower as you suggested but was holding off until I heard from others about the problem and checked with S&W. I was hoping S&W had identified the problem and made changes to either the follower or the magazine catch.

They have not made changes to the follower, but when I sent mine back they did exactly what you guys are talking about : they filed down the corners so the follower would not catch as it traveled up the magazine.
Here's a link to a thread on the topic
New m&p 9 full ftf with magazine release for lefty

Contacted S&W about this and the answers I got were about as useful as tits on a boar hog.
They had never heard of the problem, they had not made any changes to the design of the follower or the magazine release, and had no solution to the problem to offer.

I had the same experience as retarmyaviator the first time I called. It seems that it depends on who you get on the phone. While the last guy didn't admit any known problems, he was very quick to suggest I needed a new mag catch, and is sending me 2, one for my full size, and one for my compact. Emailing them produced no replies at all on the subject, but another email on a different issue got me a reply in 10 minutes.

Have you considered leaving the button on the left and running it with your pointer finger? It is an easier reach than trying to hit it with your thumb on the other side.
I am right handed and have flopped the mag release to the right side, so I can hit it with my finger. That way the mag release action for my AR15 and my pistol are the same.

This. I'm a leftie and over the years have gotten so used to right-hand releases that I leave it that way if it is reversible.
