Default M&P22 FTF

I got a new M&P22 and have had fits with failure to feeds right from the start. It has gotten better. Called S&W and they suggested shooting CCI, but that is a little expensive for everyday range session. I was impressed when I read the posts on that gun on how it ate everything everyone put trough it. That and the fact I have the M&P9 are why I purchased the .22. I use Federal Bulk 550 copper plated for most every .22, and they were not good in this gun. Winchester Wildcats seemed to work best, but lately they also started to not feed. I suspected that the slide was not fully traveling to the rear and not picking up the next round. While shooting today, it got a little worse, so I laid the gun down and did a little thinking. The subject of lubrication crossed my mind. I have been using gun slick grease on the suggested lube points. Some one here on another post said they used automobile oil, so I got a bottle of 30 weight and put that on the lube points. The gun just took off, worked like a charm, not one failure to feed. I read another post on what lube to use and there were suggestions for about a million of them. I tend to use very little as to not collect debris, but also clean after every 100 rounds or so. What are your comments or thoughts on this. Or better yet, a lube that would work as well. Rem Oil doesn't seem to do it, although I usually use it sparingly. I love this gun and I'd like it to work like it did today. Thanks for your advice. This is the only weapon I've had this problem with after using my normal lubes. I do have Break Free CLP on hand, would this be enough? The gun is a month old and has aprox. 2000 rounds through it.

I'm sorry you're having problems. My new M&P .22 ate 500 rounds of Federal Bulk today w/o a problem and I use generic gun oil.

Yea, I think I should have used oil instead of the Gun Slick grease. We'll see if it keeps working as well as it did after I oiled it. Thanks for the reply. I still think this is one of the best .22 made.

With a slide that light, any grease rather than oil will likely cause issues. And if you shoot with both thumbs forward make sure your support hand thumb does not have any contact with the slide. My son was causing fails in our 22 because he was making contact with the slide while it was trying to cycle.

When I picked up my gun, I immediately cleaned it thoroughly and treated it with FrogLube. I won't use anything else from now on.

I did have a few FTFs and looked closely at the chamber ramp. I noticed a small spot on each side that could not be removed with solvent.

I used my Dremel to polish the ramp and have not had a single failure. I have over 4000 rounds of Federal bulk put through it without any problems.

Check your ramp.

I have been using a little wilson's gun grease on the rails, just like my full size M&Ps. No issues to date with Rem High Vel HPs. I do use Breakfree CLP too.

Try to use better quality ammo. It's hard to find now. I use CCI when I can. Even CCI standard vol. @ 1070 f/s with no issues. Other ammo at that f/s has FTE and other cycle issues.
Cheap ammo/ dirty gun. I've shot 1500 rnds w/ no issues 'til I bought cheap ammo. No telling what to expect then. Good luck

I use Wilson on all my pistols without a problem. I also have FTF with cheap brand ammo. I have no problem with Remington thunderbolt in bulk 500 rounds for 24 dollars.

I had the same problem with Federal bulk and then ran them across a chronograph. They were averaging 125 FPS deviation and the slower ones were the ones that didn't kick the slide back far enough to pick up a new round. I was also averaging 6 inch groups at 25 yards. I switched to CCI Mini-Mags and the deviation was cut to 33 FPS and 2.5 inch groups at 25 yards. I shoot steel challenge with this gun and want all the consistency I can get, so I pay for the better ammo. It's also a lot cleaner and can go longer without a detail cleaning.
