Default M&P 40 slide jammed

I have a question. 3 weeks ago I purchased a M&P 40 cal. I shot about 500 rounds out of it. I decided to field strip it and read the manual on how to do it. Well when I was putting the slide back on the action, the slide jammed up completely. It would not budge at all. So sitting there dumbfounded I looked over to my right and realized I forgot to put the recoil spring back in. The slide was locked completely, no movement at all. It appears that my failure to put the recoil spring back in caused the barrel to tilt at an angle jamming the slide completely. I just sent it to the factory and I hope they fix it as I just bought in 5-29-12. Anyone else experience this? Do you think they will cover all expenses? I feel like a real idiot but, I am just learning, thanks

They tend to take pretty good care of customers so I bet you will have no problems. Still, I bet you learned a good lesson in having an eye for detail and will pay better attention next time.

I'm thinking I'd hate to try to field strip this thing and reassemble it in the dark...with somebody shooting at me.

Probably could've held it upside-down and jiggled it around to get the barrel into battery..and take it back apart.

That said..I somehow managed to get my Glock 19 mis-assembled...and I had the recoil spring installed! Not just for sure what I did wrong..but I think I had the spring assembly hooked too far down against the barrel when I tried to stick the upper assembly on.

It got all hung-up..and the barrel wouldn't go into battery..the recoil spring guide was sticking too far out the front of the slide..and the slide assembly wouldn't come back off..then the gun cocked itself..and was really hung-up!!

I managed to get the thing apart with some gentle manipulation..however I was sweating bullets for a bit!

Default Smith & Wesson M & P Locked slide after re assembly

Well, It happened to me. After re assembly my slide got about a half and inch from fully seating. Everything locked up; it wouldn't go forward or backward. I saw a post about the recoil spring not seated. Well, I stuck a wire hanger in and pushed the recoil spring up against the barrel and it freed it. Once I got it open I noticed that I installed the recoil spring on backwards. Operator error! Just thought I'd post it in case any one else runs into the same issue. Key point however is to not install the recoil spring on bassackwards.
