Default Purchased Shield--Now There Is A Problem

I store both my full size XD 45 with the 13 round magazine and Shield in a low profile Gunvault next to my bed and I will be honest I can't stand the XD in my hand after I have owned my Shield for nearly 3 months.

I never thought I would consider selling my XD but I know the gun is just going to collect dust because the Shield is so comfortable in my hand compared to the XD double stack 45 and my Shield even with XS Big Dot Night Sights can shoot some decent groups up to 12 yards. (I could shoot just as tight of groups with the Shield stock three dot sights as my full size XD 45 up to 25 yards)

The Shield grip is really incredible in my medium to large hand and the pinkie on the flush magazine is a bonus.

I know if there was a noise in the night I would reach for the Shield over the XD 45. It's like your favorite pair of pants. Your going to wear them even if dirty before the clean uncomfortable pair.

Does it hurt anything to keep it? If you don't need the money, or don't intend to trade for a replacement then why not just keep it? You never know when you'll get that itch and say "damn, wish I hadn't sold that." The Shield is a very nice gun, but the XD is an entirely different animal and a fine weapon as well. The XD is a full size duty type of weapon, and the Shield is more of a concealed carry type. I'd be happier to have a gun that holds 13+1 rounds of .45ACP in a full size platform over a subcompact that holds 6, 7, or 8+1 rounds if I ever needed one.

You bring up a good point.

I don't need the money and I have never sold a gun because I would feel bad if it was ever used in a crime.

I will most likely pass the XD on to an adult child some day.

I may look at a full size M&P when they get the new trigger or buy another Shield and install fiber optic three dot sights and buy some 8 round magazines for the range.

I really like the single stack feel of the Shield in my hand.

Too bad there is not a rail to install a light on the Shield. That would be ideal for the night stand.

Standby. Crimson Trace will be coming out with a Lightguard for the shield in a couple of months.

Part of why I'm very in favor of keeping both is that, well, I have both .

I have the XD45 compact model though, so it fits a little bit of a different niche. I like both guns very much. The Shield I have is a 9mm, and is very accurate. Though I always find myself going for something larger whenever possible, usually a 4506 or SIG.

Plus, who doesn't like a little diversity in the collection??

You always need a 45 in the collection. I'm not a big 45 Guy but I do love my g30 SF. Its one of the most accurate guns in any brand. But I do love my shield and carry it daily. N also have no problem reaching for it as a night stand gun.

Ok guys you talked me into keeping the XD 45.

I will admit hiking in Utah if I encountered a black bear 14 rounds of 45 in a 4 inch barrel would be nice.

Texas thanks for the heads up on the crimson light.

When Shield demand settles down I may still pick up a second and slap on some fiber optic three dot sights for the range.

I like my XS big dot sights for self defense but you do give up the tight groups and beyond 10 yard shots.

Default UN

Don't get rid of any gun. Hide them from the UN Small Arms Treaty. Or as Hillary calls it; "giving away the 2nd Amendment rights" that our constituition provides us!

If you have both guns in the Gunvault in an emergency is it easy to get just one out fast? BTW I keep my XDm .45 in the lower level of my house. I do love 14 rds. of .45.

I don't own an XD. Most of my friends have them but to me, it's like gripping a 2X4. I have a HK P30 that you would love.

ME

Funny And true The XD 13 round 45 is shaped a lot like a 2x4.

I got a Walther PPQ, PPS, P88, Bersa BP9CC and a Remington 870 shotgun. I would go for Shield first. It just feels right. I ended up installing a Houge handall Jr grip with stick kit and love it even more.

I don't own any XD's, my Springfield is a 1911 Range Officer. BUT I do own Glocks & have carried a 27 for years as my CC gun. Since I've owned my 40 Shield I can't get over the feeling that the G27 just feels too much like a 2x4. My Glock 20 & 21 feel more like 4x4s now. I laughed when others called Glocks 2x4's, now I know what they were referring to...

The XDM is a nice gun, that sits in my safe, just in case I want to take it out. My Sigma 40F + 2 spare mags and light is by my bedside. When I get awoken from a dead sleep my body/brain will still run the Sigma. So which ever feels best, automatic, go that way, but do not leave both there requiring a decision when your focus should be on the bump in the night. If you need a second at that time you could keep it for your spouse. Remember- "3 is 2,2 is 1, 1 is none" I believe the statement is from Clint Smith. Be Safe,
