Default S&W Shield

I started spending the winter months in Arizona so I wanted to get something smaller than the Glock 26 I have been carrying so I purchased a Ruger LCR and found it had a long trigger reset which I didn't like so I purchased a S&W Shield and found a problem with the Shield also... Getting a loaded magazine to lock in the Shield is difficult...Has anyone else had this problem and does get any better over time?

Heck, most people can't get the magazine fully loaded without an Uplula. Basically you're working against the magazine spring to get it to seat. Easiest way is to insert magazine into gun and give it a big ol' movie type slap to seat it.

Alternatively to the big slap, being extremely careful to avoid involving the trigger, put one hand on top of the slide and the other on the magazine base and push/squeeze it into place. As said above, the mag spring is very strong and you are, presumably, trying to compress a full mag that last little bit.

The Shield is really an excellent little gun and the magazine thing should only be a minor annoyance. I'd also suggest getting the Uplula mentioned above if you don't already have one. Your fingers will thank you.

The mag locks pretty easy if you have the slide open.

Do a Forum Search for the Key Words of Shield Mag Seat, or Shield Mag Insert and you'll come up with Dozens of (if not a couple Hundred) Threads discussing this.

You are not the 1st to ask and you'll definitely not be the last.

You don't want to gingerly snap it into place...give it a good slap on the mag buttplate and make sure it seats and is properly latched. Many a mag has dropped on the ground after the first shot because they weren't properly seated.

Yep. Working with a Basic Jailor Academy this week for firearms training. A few magazines did fall out of weapons this week. They will hear "Tug those magazines" in their sleep...
