Just got my shield .40, first trip to the range, 7 round mag dropped immediatley after first round and continued to drop every round after. Fortunately the 6 round mag had no issues so i was able to have a little fun with it. However i am bothered at the issue BUT i am even more bothered that S&W has not even addressed this issue. I called Customer Service and explained the issue however i am not confident after reading all these posts that they will even fix the problem.

But this one has a real poll which allows anyone to quickly see the results, instead of having to add up all the unique replies in the other thread. Comments are not required like other poll, just a quick click.

I stopped at a gun shop in Lakeland, FL yesterday and picked up a new Shield .40 on a spur of the moment as the S&W factory guys were there providing free demos (theirs worked great). I went to the range today to break it in and had numerous (too many to count) mag drops and I got tired of the issue and stopped at 100 rounds. I wish I had seen these threads on the problem before I bought it! I have a 40C & a 40 Pro and have had no issues with them and love them. I am a dyed in the wool S&W guy (7 S&W handguns) and this was my first time being disappointed by them. It has a DXYxxxx serial# with a test fired cartridge dated 8/20/12. I find it hard to believe that S&W was not aware of this issue just two weeks ago! The mags do NOT have the dimple on the mag slots that others have mentioned as the fix. I emailed S&W and asked them what they were going to do to correct it and I will call S&W CS tomorrow.

As I stated in the other topic that this should also incorporate the Serial number series of the weapon with or without the problems. I got one of the first Shield 40 weapons I was 2nd on the waiting list and my Shield except for a nosedive on the second round I have had no other issues with it since the Serial number on my non affected perfect working weapon is DXTnnnn!

My Shield 40 is DXP as well with test fire date of 4/25/12. I posted one of the early threads on the 40's on 6/12/12 so I am guessing the DXP is early/first production (?).

Mag drop response from S&W customer service call
So I called S&W customer service today about my new .40 Shield mag drop issue posted above. I told him about the issue and the CS rep immediately said I would need to send it in for repair and he would mail me the prepaid FedEx label. He seemed very aware of the issue and addressed it quickly. Now I will see how long it takes to get the label, return it to S&W and receive my pistol back without the problem?

My Shield 40 left this afternoon from Gainesville. It took 2-3 business days for S&W CS to get the FedEx lable processed and mailed and 3 days for the USPS to get it to me. You are correct about the CS reps being aware of the issue with the Shield 40's magazine drop.
It's interesting that the Mag Drop issue is about 60/40. I would have thought it closer to 80 droppers to 20. Evidently the mag release on some Shield 40s sits deeper in the slot on the magazine.

I have the 40, and had the mag drop issue. I called s&w and received a shipping label afew days later. They were closed till the 13 of August and I got the gun back on the 16th of August with no issues. They have the fix for the problem as far as I can tell.

S&W customer service response to my mag drop issue
I received a response today to the email I sent on 9/2 to S&W CS regarding the mag drop issue with my new .40 Shield. I was instructed to send the gun and magazines to them and they would repair it and return it to me. So much for getting to keep the original magazines and receiving two additional mags back with the repaired gun! They emailed the pre-paid return label with the instructions.
