Default Looking for Extended Controls for M&P 9

Wifey wants me to find her an extended mag release and an extended slide release for her M&P9, does anyone know of a source for these?

Default Extended mag release

Only extended mag release on the market now is the Costa Catalyst made by 21st Century Gunfighter. Can only be purchased through Costa Ludus at the moment.

As for the slide release I haven't seen one yet. You could try practicing the 45 degree mag load technique which automatically releases the slide. I personally don't b/c you have to get it just right or it won't do it. I'd rather train something I know will work 100% of the time. I prefer the power stroke method.

IMHO, you are missing the point of the Shield by adding extended controls. An extended mag release just increases the chance of accidentally releasing the mag, and using a different technique to release the slide (pulling the slide back) will always work.
I wouldn't mind an extended thumb safety like the ones on the bigger M&Ps. As it is now, the small one is next to worthless, and I just ignore it. The gun is perfectly safe without it.

That would be a totally valid argument were we discussing the Shield, however since these are modifications for my wife's full size M&P9, which she uses solely as her IDPA gun, they are somewhat moot, no? She DOES carry an M&P9c and as far as the extended mag release being accidentally depressed, we'll test that on her full size first, since a dropped mag in a match is hardly as big a deal as a dropped mag for the day that we all hope will never come...

Oh, by the way, that Costa release is on the way, thanks!

Sure thing. Mine just arrived today. And tomorrow I test it at my first USPSA match. An extended slide release would be great as another option. Wonder why nobody has made one yet. In any case I recommend the power stroke method. It may bit slower (by like 1 sec) but its consistent and will work every time.

By power stroke, you mean to sling shot the slide, instead of hitting the slide lock, right?

No power stroke is when gun is pointed down range, support hand goes over the top and grasps the slide between all 4 fingers and palm. It is much stronger than slingshot. Your thumb is actually a weak spot because it is all by itself. Wrestlers, Brazilian Jiu Jitsu practitioners, any grappler will tell you a thumbs grip is by far weaker than no thumbs. Same principal can be applied to charging the slide. Most men don't really have weak thumbs so slingshot is doable. But, since it's your wife's gun, if she's like my wife, she cannot slingshot to save her life. She can power stroke, however.

Oh, OK, I get it, that's what she already does, I was using the wrong terminology for it.

I learn at least one new thing every time I'm on the Forum. Thanks, guys, for the "power stroke" definition. My wife cannot release the slide on my Shield 40 with the thumb grip to save her life. We'll try the power stroke and see if that works for her. Thanks again.
