Default dry firing

I have a new Smith and Wesson 9mm Compact. I am fair with it I always hit the target I just shoot low for some reason. My instructor had me aim and he pulled the trigger and it hit where I aimed so I know it is my trigger control. My question is I got very good with my LCR revolver doing dry firing practice. Is it safe to do dry fire the the 9mm? Are there pros and cons?

Just make sure you have an extra striker on hand.

I called Smith & Wesson after I bought my 9c and they told me to dry fire the heck out of it because it will cause no damage.

Verify that your manual specifically says you can dry fire. My M&P9's says its fine.

Great find Edmo. Isn't it interesting that you can dry fire everything BUT .22's. Kind of makes you wonder why the firing pin configuration on the .22 is different then all the other calibers.

No wonder at all. The firing pin on rimfires must crush the rim between the firing pin and the chamber recess. If you don't have a cartridge or snap cap in place, the firing pin will peen the recess enough that you will have difficulty inserting and ejecting cartridges and eventually failure to fire malfunctions.

Yes you can but if you are still concerned, use snap caps. They will also come in handy for malfunction drills.
