Got a change to get to the range last night and put my AEK trigger through its paces! If you are curious about installing it and what I was going for you can read part 1 of my review here:
AEK Aluminum Trigger Review
When I got to the range they had a USPSA course setup so I decided to do a couple of runs and see how I did before doing some target practice. This is only the second time I have ever done this so I am no pro but I feel it's good practice to know how to handle my CCW with a little pressure and movement involved. As I started the course I noticed very quickly that getting my finger on the trigger consistently was MUCH easier for me. With the stock trigger I felt like I could never figure out the right spot for my finger naturally because it was so rounded. Overall, I did pretty good getting all my shots, with only 1 miss after 3 runs and a total of 60 shots.
After having some fun it was time to get to the range and take some time with the trigger. I set my targets out about 20ft so I could focus more on trigger control than trying to shoot long distance. Right away I noticed several things:
1. I could easily get my finger in the same spot every time and it felt comfortable. Also, the center safety hinge was basically unnoticeable and didn’t get in the way trying to put my finger on the trigger.
2. The trigger was much easier to pull straight back. I still struggled with this a bit because I am fairly new to shooting, but I could tell when my finger wasn’t pulling correctly and I was able to focus on improving my fundamentals.
3. No more spongy feeling pre-travel, which was due to the safety hinge in the middle of the stock trigger. A solid aluminum trigger just feels better!
4. 20%-30% reduced pre-travel and over-travel (exactly what Apex claims)
I was very happy with the results and even the guys that worked at the shooting range said my trigger was probably the best trigger they’ve felt on a polymer gun. All in all, I am very happy with the purchase and look forward to many more practice sessions.
