Angry m&p shield problems??

ok folks just found this site seems cool. just picked up my shield 40 today and hit the range. not sure but seem to think that i have some issues. would like your opinions before i contact s&w. i had two on layaway one a 9mm and the other the 40. got the 40 first. no malfunctions what so ever. only 100 rounds plus about 20 pdx1s. not alot i know but it throws brass everywhere in front back side and at all angles. not accurate at all. i shot about 50 rounds threw a friends 9mm and at 21 ft less than two inches. with my 40 we are talking 12 to 18 inch groups. im not a great shot but thats not good. other issue i have is when the firing pin strikes the primer it seems to hit then it slides over and then sinks in. i shot some other guns and didnt see this issue.also mag drops. what do you all think????

Mag drop issue in the .40 has been common. I had the problem. Sent my gun to S&W and they returned it with two new mags that had been modified to push the top of the mag catch slot slightly, giving better engagement with the mag catch. Shot it this afternoon and had no mag drops through 120 rounds. Before the mag modification, mine was dropping the mags on 30% to 70% of the shots in each mag.

Otherwise, I love the gun. Shoots to POA for me. It's the subcompact CCW pistol that I've been hoping someone would build. The fact that it is .40 cal and not .380 or 9mm is a nice bonus.

Seems like the Shield 40's have some issues , which I am sure S&W will resolve. Their rep is at stake . I have the Shield 9mm and live it. You might want the M&P 40c if you are looking for a 40 to compliment your Shield 9.

My new Shield 9mm shows the exact primer strikes as you describe with your 40 shield. Let me know what you find out.
Thanks

Swiped primer dimples are completely normal for a semi auto. IIRC it happens most frequently with the tilting barrel semi's due to the way the barrel drops out of engagement with the slide. If the firing pin is still forward at this point it will leave that teardrop dimple. As for damage to the firing pin, I've never seen any damage attributed to this in over 40 years of shooting. BTW, Sigs do this, Springfields do this, and S&W's do this and you'll have to look long and hard to find one single complaint of a broken firing pin.

Accuracy issues. Your description of the way your gun is throwing brass leads me to suspect 2 possibilities. One is that a 9mm recoil spring was installed in your 40 caliber. I would check to see if S&W color codes the spring for the caliber and check the spring in your pistol to insure it's correct. Second possibility is poor recoil management by the shooter. You may not want to hear it but there is a very good likelyhood that your "throwing" your shots either by flinching or not using consistent recoil management.
