Default Shield 9mm Ammo Thread

I wondered if a dedicated thread on our experiences shooting various 9mm Ammo in the Shield would be useful. I guess we'll find out.

Specifically, how would you rate the accuracy of the ammo as well whether it experienced any misfires etc.? What is your favorite range ammo ? Favorite carry ammo ? ... and of course any other comments you would like to make...

Sellier and Ballot 115 gr. - Accuracy is very good. Regarding misfires, I've had no issues shooting this ammo. HOWEVER, my sister and wife shot my shield with this ammo and within the first few shots my wife experienced an FTE and my sister had a couple of rounds hit her in the arm. I noticed another poster had FTF issues and documented that the bullet is larger than the average 9mm, which could certainly be the cause. My conclusion is that if you shoot this ammo, you need to maintain a very firm grip otherwise misfires could occur. After using up my last box, I probably won't be buying this anymore. It's definitely cheap though.

Walmart Federal 115 gr- Accuracy seems to be pretty good. I've only shot about 50 rounds and have not experienced any misfires. I think the ejection pattern is much better than the S&B.

Favorite Range Ammo ? Haven't shot a lot of different Ammo, but so far like the Walmart Federal. Will probably buy another box of this and maybe try some WWB.

Favorite Carry Ammo ? Haven't shot any yet... but eagerly awaiting responses in this thread

I have three 9MM, which one including Shield, and buy all my ammo at Wal-Mart Federal. I will say bought over 3,000. rds, and shot everyone without any problems. So far my Shield ate up 300 rds without any issues, great automatic.

Carry ammo: prefer standard pressure 124 gr. ammo for smaller guns. No sense in beating up the gun and shooter for relatively small gains out of a short barrel. Federal HST, Speer Gold Dot, even Federal HydroShok will do just fine.

Practice ball: Federal American Eagle or W-W white box work in all my 9mm guns, which include several Glocks, BHPs, Kahrs, Sigs, and my two Shields. Never a problem.

Range ammo: I shoot my own stuff and they work fine.

Carry ammo: I use Hornady CD ammo.

lot's of choices. i would recommend using the same bullet wt in your range and carry ammo.

for instance i use american eagle 124 gr at the range, and gold dot 124 gr for carry. both shoot to the same aim point.

generally, heavier bullets hit higher in semi-autos.

As a range officer I find a lot of live rounds at cleanup time. People racking the slide with a live round in the chamber and over the rail it goes. I have shot everything through my Shield without a hiccup.
