Default Shield with XS big dots question

Newbie here. I have had the Shield for a couple of weeks. I have XS big dots sights on order (they are taking there sweet time getting here). I have an IWB leather holster from McCabes which is a really snug fit. I was wondering how much extra height the big dot front sight adds over the stock front sight.

Thanks

Shouldn't add much.
I put the XS standard size tritium sights on my full size and compact and all my holsters still work.

I put them on my 9c. Installation was easy. Just be careful when removing rear sight as there is a small disc and spring that could be easily lost. I don't remember if the sights should be removed from leftt to right or right to left. Watch video(s) on youtube first.

I love them and rapid acquisition of sight-target alignment is a definite plus. Minimal height difference, holster still works great.
Just remember the front sight has to be ON the target rather than the traditional 6 o'clock hold. Enjoy.

Radworm:

The Big Dot front sight is a few thousandths taller than the stock sight, but it's not mattered on my M&P40C. I suppose a Kydex holster with a "channel" for the front sight might give you problems, but leather or nylon shouldn't matter at all. (I use leather, but have a Kydex holster - from an M&P40FS - that doesn't seem to care.)

Still trying to get my hands on a Shield, but I don't see any real difference likely.

(Hint: Buy the Kydex from somebody who'll let you return it ....)

Regards,

I have big dots on my 9c and no problems with kydex holsters. Crossbreed supertuck, snap slide, galco triton and fobus paddle all work fine. Same with Glock 26 and 22 kydex holsters with the xs sights.

Thanks for the input. I had a gunsmith install the sights yesterday, but he accidentally broke the front big dot sight. He is ordering a new one, so hopefully next week I will get to find out what the Big dots are all about.

I wonder if he used a pusher. The instructions state "do not use a sight pusher".

If you have time watch some youtube videos of people shooting with xs sights, it take a little getting used to. I use them on all self defense guns.

Also on the M&P's the rear sight is not a night site. Believe it or not it works better. The Glocks rear sight is a night sight and in a quick sight acquisition the single front night site is easier to pick up.

I think they may have used a pusher, but I couldn't see exactly what they were doing. I was hoping the old Navy guy that owns the shop was going to do the job (as an aside, he is a good friend of "Gunny" in the Trigger the Vote ad on this forum. Has a couple pictures of the two of them in his shop). Instead, the young guy who works there did the job and probably broke the sight while using a pusher. They have my replacement on order and the old Navy guy is going to do the install.
