Ok, I found a .40 Shield with the DXP prefix on the serial number at my LGS where I buy my reloading supplies. He said that he had bought 12 of them at the SHOT show along with 12 9mm Shields. The 9mm's flew out the door but the .40s just kind of dribbled.
Anyway, I paid for it last Thursday and had to do the obligatory wait for 72 hours to pick it (gotta luv Illinois). Anyway, I went tonight to pick it up and there was only a 6 round magazine in it. I asked him where the other mag was an he asked me if it was supposed to have two and I told him yes, a 6- and 7-round magazine.
Now this is only a one-man-show gunshop so he went into the back in the safe and got out the only other one that he had left and it was paid for and doing the wait period as well. Guess what. It only had a 7-round magazine in it.
He was all apologetic and gave me a some ammo to make up the cost of a magazine. He was going to call S&W and see what they had to say about.
In the meantime, I only have one magazine now. So even if he complains to his distributor, the distributor complains to the wholesaler, the wholesaler complains to S&W, it will be a month before I get my magazine.
I kind of feel bad for my guy at the LGS. I don't really think that it is fair that he eats the price of a magazine. His profit margin on this weapon was only about 15% so that bites right into it. Not only does he have to do that for my weapon but the other .40 Shield as well.
I forgot to mention that it is an hour one-way to this guy. That's why I didn't know he had them until I made the run for reloading stuff.
I am going to get on the phone to S&W tomorrow and see what the deal is. This is the second S&W weapon that I have bought in two weeks and the other (a 686-6) is already back there for a couple of issues.
Anyone have any kind of problems like this?
BTW, I had zero mag malfunctions in the first 100 or so rounds. I did have two light primer strikes though. I will have to do some more evaluation to see if it is the type of primer in my loads or an issue with the weapon
