Default S&W Shield 9mm Barrel????

I have some scratches or gouges at the end of my barrel. All I have shot through it are FMJ and Rem. Golden Sabres. Not sure if this is normal or not. None of my other S&W guns are like this. Thanks for all the help.

Typical deposits from FMJ bullets with exposed lead bases. Except for what appears to be a blonde hair sticking out of the barrel. A good cleaning should take care of the issue.

Both of my shields have this. Not there before I shot them for the first time. It seems to be lead deposits. They seem to follow the twist of the internal barel. Not a big deal.

Try some good lead/copper solvent and see if that helps. Make sure you soak for a while. If that doesn't remove it then give S&W a call. I doubt there is any defect though.

I can't speak to the Ruger, but Glocks don't have rifling lands. Therefore, they may not form the deposits in question. But, this surely isn't the first time we've seen similar pictures.

I also notice what appears to be leading on the edges of the rifling land at about 2:30.

Brand new barrels sometimes need to get smoothed out by shooting. The barrel that caused me the most grief from leading was a product of an internationally reknowned maker. While most barrel clean up in 200 or so rounds, that one took over 400.

My Ruger SR9C got the same marks the first day at the range (around 250 rounds), after a throughout cleaning with CLP and Hoppes 99 they went out. Now it has 2500 rounds with no mark at all.
