Default First 100 rounds Shield 40

All I have to say is this is one amazing weapon! Shot the first 100 rounds through my Shield 40 using WWB 165 Grain. I shot at 10 yards. I was outside on our property. I had 0 magazine drops with the flush 6 round mag, but did have 3 with the extended 7 round mag. I honestly believe this was no fault of the gun and was 100% MY FAULT! I have what I would consider large hands, not fat hands, but long fingers. I noticed that my grip was changing somewhat with the extended mag since I could fit more of my hand on the grip and my thumb was hitting the mag release. Each time it dropped the mag, I stopped and check hand position. My thumb was on the button each time. I'm going to shoot it alot more before I declare it has a mag drop problem. The other thing that was note worthy is that this thing seriously flings my casings. I found one almost 15 feet behind me. I always try to find the casings when I am done shooting since I shoot on grass that is mowed. They were all within about a 5' radius, but much farther to my 4-5 o'clock position than my 40FS. It handled great, much easier to point and shoot than I expected. Also, I was expecting there to be some fumbling with the controls on the smaller platform, but what adjustments I had to make were minimal. I will definitely add a Talon grip soon though. I could see the thinner grip being a problem with wet and/or sweaty hands. Just for reference, the "target" was a catalog apprx 11"x13" I happened to have in my truck since I forgot my targets at home. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the Shield 40. I think it has gotten somewhat of a bad reputation, but I am thrilled with mine. If it does drop the mag in the future I will try the mag bump and see what happens. Hope this review helps. Now onto my research for an IWB holster!

PS...Am I still the only person to receive a blue plastic case from S&W with the foam cut for a Shield? It was sent to me at no charge from S&W.

Glad for your success. Excellent gun, the Shield. I haven't heard of anyone else receiving a blue plastic case. Did you request the case, or did they just send it to you out of the 'blue'?

They just sent it to me out of the blue. I'm in Illinois and have a 3 day wait. I picked up my gun on my lunch hour, got home about 5pm and there was a box from S&W on my doorstep. Here are some pics

I hope this was sarcasm....

As he stated the blue case was on his doorstep not the gun.

Not sarcasm.I read it as he picked up one pistol from his LGS and there was another on his doorstep.

I read S&W doesnt use the pretty blue box for the shield in an effort to make them more affordable for us, the concealed carrying consumer. You could go get an XDS, it comes with an awesome case... and is anywhere from $150 to $200 more when i priced them. I would rather get my shield in a cardboard box and buy a $20 plastic case if need be.

I noticed the Poly cut out has a place for a large, curved guard above the grip. weird, considering the shield is flat there.

It is nice to see 158Grain was gifted by S&W. For those who would covet his gift, the cases can be ordered from S&W for a mere $10.58 plus s&h.

It is nice when they come in those cases... but then... where do they get stored? Mine are all stacked up on the top of the safe and only get use on the outside chance there's a need to ship a firearm back to S&W. (Those of us with 40 Shields might have more of an application for that. ) For range use, the firearms, ammo, eyes & ears, spotting scope, cleaning gear, sunscreen, bugspray, ... well, you get the idea... there's the range bag.

Now if you are a collector... that's a horse of a different color.
