Default Apex Trigger

How many people out there have an Apex trigger? The Apex trigger looks more what I'm use too being a long time XD owner. The M&P trigger is fine I guess but feels different. The video makes it look simple enough to swap out.

Any thoughts!

I put the Apex as well as the USB but the Trigger alone would also be quite nice it is noticeably different than the stock and is not that difficult, but with the USB you need to also remove the rear sights and remove and replace the striker block plunger spring and cap and unless you have experience it is best to let a gunsmith do it for you!

I have the AEK trigger and the Duty/Carry Action Enhancement Kit (DCAEK). Not hard at all to install ... just watch the video a couple of times. Both kits made a huge difference with my trigger control.

I have the Forward Set Sear & Trigger kit. Way better than the stock trigger. Better than all the plastic triggers I've ever felt. Totally worth the investment.

I just recently sold an XD. For the first 500 rounds I had the stock trigger. Then I sent it to PRP for an Ultimate Match trigger job and fired it somewhere between 1000 and 1500 times. It was better but it's not even close to my M&P9c with the DCAEK and RAM installed. Apex and the M&P is far superior to any XD that I've handled. You'll be very happy.

I have the trigger and DCAEK. I find that the USB is the best part of the whole thing.

A large number of people have installed their products and most everyone including me has found considerable improvement. The most difficult part can be removing the rear sight to install the USB, outside of that installation is simple.

Speaking of installing the USB, I was fortunate enough to have a rear sight that wasn't too tight. Believe it or not I used the Talon Tool included with my trigger kit to tap it out. The thing is made of plastic, so that tells you it wasn't too tight. I've seen some videos where they really needed to whack on it to make it budge. If you have a tight rear sight and the proper tools you can do it yourself easily as long as you take precautions. If, however, you don't have a vise I'd suggest finding someone who does. Preferably a gunsmith.

Sorry, I guess I didn't explain myself clear enough. What I meant by the feel of the trigger was the way M&P has a 2 piece trigger that's hinged in the middle as opposed to the Apex having a vertical inset safety like the XD and Glock.

Ha! Me too! I've even used that plastic part to adjust the rear sight once. I don't have a vice, but I use a large block of wood to set the pistol on while I work on it. That works okay, but it would be much easier in a vice.

Apex Tactical Forward Set Sear in FS M&P 9. Love the short take up and short crisp rest 4.25lb pull. Highly recommend.

I have an XD45 and a Shield 40. There is no getting used to the two different triggers as they pull the same way even though each has a different trigger safety design. Once you start pulling the trigger back, the safety is off and the trigger continues pulling back.

My XD has a stock trigger and my Shield has the Apex sear and blocker along with a softer Glock trigger spring. There is no comparison in the actual trigger pull as the Shield's is so much better. The Shield has a softer, shorter, faster resetting trigger. I have added a trigger stop to my Shield. It is not a range gun, but my trigger would make a great range/competition trigger. It has 3/8 inch take up, 1/16 inch sear pull, next to no over travel, and a shade over 1/16 inch reset, ready to pull again. I have measured the pull at 3 pounds 10-12 ounces.

I am sure I will get comments about that being an unsafe trigger for carry. Improvements to a gun, that allow you to shoot it better, make it a better carry gun. The lighter trigger pull and trigger stop, on my Shield, helps me shoot it more consistently and have faster recovery. People should practice shooting their carry gun, so they become used to the trigger pull, recoil and recovery, and can shoot it accurately. What makes a safe carry gun is training and practice, and knowing your gun. Also if you follow proper gun safety rules, your finger should be off the trigger until you know your target and are ready to fire. The Shield has a manual safety. I carry with that safety on and and practice flipping it off, with my thumb, as I draw my weapon.

I would agree that a long, heavy trigger pull is what an inexperienced shooter should have. This would also apply to those that have experience, but fail to practice often with their carry gun.

Bob

Got the Shield today. Very accurate but horrible MA trigger. I got most of the APEX kit installed but I can't get my rear sight to budge at all. It's better with just the trigger and sear components but I'd really like to get that striker block changed out.

Try putting some CLP or penetrating oil in it and let it set overnight. Also, if you have an MGW M&P sight pusher, that'll work. Also, be sure to be careful when removing the rear sight that when you get the sight almost off, that you keep the little plastic tool Apex provides in the slot, or use your finger, so the little disc and spring don't go flying.

I have four M&P's and all have some form or fashion of APEX trigger kits in them. 2 with duty and two with competition sets. They are the schitz

If that is all you are asking then I would say it's a null question. Either one is disengaged the instant you pull on it and the hinge moving the bottom half or the middle finger is irrelevant to the feel of the trigger pull. I guess the spring for the Apex is softer than the factory spring for the different original trigger. But that has no change on the trigger pull itself.

Just got my M&P40FS a couple of weeks ago. Had checked out Apex and that helped me decide to buy M&P. Took it out and put 100 rounds through it stock to check the difference after modification. Even stock I am sold on this gun! Just got the DCAEK, USB, and RAM kits installed and though I haven't shot it yet just dry firing I can tell this is going to be great! I was going to get the Apex trigger but after shooting it not sure if it is needed. I am very happy S&W has made such a fine handgun for my 40 needs; I have been buying/carrying S&W for over 35 years and all have been excellent!

Since you have the full sized gun, it may not be for carry. For your information the Apex duty/carry kit springs are stronger springs than the stock springs. The trigger pull weight should be between 5 to 5.5 pounds. If you replace the Apex springs with the stock M&P springs, the pull weight should drop to 4 to 4.5 pounds.

I have found the RAM to be more of an audible vs. tactile improvement

I installed Apex's hard sear and USB first and ran that for a few months. The smoothness of the trigger was much improved and it eliminated the gritty feal which sometimes I mistook for the trigger reset. However, just doing the sear and USB alone, resulted in a trigger pull reduced to 4.2 lbs., which I consider too light for defensive concealed carry. So next I installed the DCAEK trigger spring which brought the trigger pull up to a more desireable 5.5 lbs. So now with those 2 mods, I have a very smooth trigger at 5.5 lbs with a distinct tactile reset. I love it.
