Default Tutorial on how to fit a Shield into MGW M&P Site Pusher

Okay, I named this a tutorial, but it isn't that detailed. That being said, I've read many reports about how the MGW Site Pusher for full size M&Ps would not work on the Shield. Now as the tool was designed, that is true. But credit a little Yankee ingenuity and you can make it work. And it works very well. In fact, I had my sites off in about 10 minutes. It only took that long because I wanted to be very careful to make sure nothing was going wrong. I had this idea that if you would remove the parts from the tool that typically hold the slide in place, then you could probably brace the slide in the tool to get the sites moving. After searching a little, I found another user had also reported this would work. So once my Shield Carry Kit from Apex arrived today, I was determined to find out if it would work.

Step 1: Tool Prep. Remove the bolt handle, washer, space and slide clamp from the site pusher. No picture of that but the last picture will show you all the pieces taken apart.

Step 2: Remove the set screw that hold the sites in place.

Step 3: Position the slide in the pusher. This is where I was most careful. I took a very soft cloth to pad the side of the slide. Then I carefully placed the slide into the pusher and applied enough pressure to ensure the slide would remain flat to the bottom of the pusher. I assisted here a little by applying downward pressure on the front of the slide while I turned the handle. Now it seems like you crank forever before those sites start to move. But sure enough, it started to go.

Step 4: Once you get the sites most of the way off, carefully remove slide from the pusher. Make sure the spring and cover doesn't fly out from the slide.

That's really all there is to it. Installation is just the reverse. I just caution everyone to take it slow and make sure you have the slide safely covered with a soft and thick cloth. You have to leave room for the sites to move in, so regrettably you can't wrap it too far up the right side of the slide. But it really works and works pretty well. This pusher has finally paid for itself. One Apex kit in my 40 compact, now 2 more in my Shields.

Here is a picture of the disassembled site pusher. Not much to it.

I have not tried the front site yet. At this time I have no reason to try it. But if I pick up some night sites, I'll report back.

Hopefully this will help some of you out there if you need to get your Shield sites moving. The MGW Site Pusher will work if you are careful.
