Yes, there are grades of stainless steel that contain less or no Ni, and less Cr, thus are only slightly better than mild steel in normal corrosion testing. I don't know what grades of stainless are used in slides and barrels, but I'm willing to leave that to the metallurgists and engineers that craft the firearms. Suffice to say that blanket statements can not be made w/o knowing the whole of it.

A few years back a LGS had some XD stainless guns come in with rusting issues. My thought is that good surface treatment on carbon steel is going to offer superior rust performance over stainless steel. I have purchased two police service revolvers(one Ruger & one Smith) made of stainless steel and they had some deep pitting due to rusting in our coastal location. Sometimes, folks think if they buy stainless, they are home free and the OP did not realize that the surface treatment on a standard XD provides great rust protection.

Guess that recoil being talked about would be the recoil the XD-S in the 45acp flavor generates, not the 9mm.
I'd expect the XD-S in 9mm to have less recoil than a Shield 9 since the XD-S 9mm (23oz) is a few ounces heavier than the Shield (19oz).
That little extra weight and slightly wider grip dimensions (especially in the front of the grip) the XD-S has over the Shield are some things that could contribute to why you consider the XD-S 9mm more accurate for you than the Shield.

I liked my bi-Tone XDs 45 the I bought a solid black one a few
months later. Don't get me wrong, I like my Shields (9mm & 40
S&W) too and have been carrying my Shield 9 for several months
due to twisting my thumb out of socket. Right now it just hurts
to much to shoot the XDs45's. I am in the market for a XDs9.

You got that right, Rob. I'm registered with 8 different pistol boards of which 6 are brand specific. That sort of parochialism is rampant, but ok and expected! What else would you expect to find on branded boards but general praise for that brand?

I picked up a Shield 9mm the day they were released as a lighter carry option to my Glock 23. Then the SHTF here in CT with the magazine ban. I never carried the Glock after that point. If I have to keep the mag short 3 rounds, I kind of thought what's the point I guess. Since I've been carrying the Shield, I've been leaning toward the XDS for the .45 power in the same size package... And if it shoots as sweet as everyone says, I may have to give one a shot...

T-Rod45... If at all possible, do try to shoot an XD-S before buying.
I do love the XD/XDM platform, but when I shot them Side-by-Side, the Shield won out.
(Still waiting for Glock to bring out a Single-Stack 9)

Will do, thanks for the input. I love my Shield, its a little snappy with +P loads, but its not a range blaster so I don't really mind. I make sure to pass a few mags of +P carry ammo thru it every few months to keep it familiar... I was just thinking the prospect of big ol .45 slugs in a similar size package would be appealing as long as it was controllable...

I have to agree with the guys who bring up the price concerns on the XDs and not just that they are $150 plus more. My issue is that the HS2000, which is what a XD really is, was $300 gun before Springfield Armory licensed it , stuck their name on it, and double the price.

Oh... That kinda reminds me...
A lot of people complain about the 'XD Gear' (holster, mag loader & mag pouch) that comes with the pistol.
If you're someone that would gladly do without that stuff, to get the XD-S at a slightly smaller price tag, SA is now offering the XD-S in the 'Essentials Package' (just pistol, 2 mags, backstraps and box).

Same with me too. You'd figure with much more of these coming in with the Springfield name, the price would be lower. GARY

This is one of those old threads that just refuses to die. Recently I looked at the new Springfield XDsc Mod 2 and it was one of those pistols that as soon as you hold it you want it. This is a 9mm with a 13 round magazine. I've been carrying my M&P9c that I prefer over the Shield for cold weather carry. This new Mod 2 has the best trigger I've ever felt in the XD line and definitely better that my XDs. At Shot Show Springfield brought out the same pistol in 45acp which I'm looking forward to checking out. There are so many excellent choices out there right now and 2015 looks like another banner year for the firearms industry.
