Default My new Shield 40!

I was lucky enough to find (and buy) a new Shield 40 yesterday! I was really looking for a 9 but couldn't resist.

I own a Glock23 g4 and really like it but I was worried about the recoil on a pistol in 40 the size of the Shield. Well, no worries!

I ran 200 rounds through it today and the recoil was very similar to the G23 (ie. not bad). The only issue was when my daughter racked the slide on the extended mag and was too gentle on the release causing it not to feed the first round. (this was the only magazine I didn't shoot myself). I cleared it for her and showed her how to release it correctly and then no issues. Btw - I used range ammo so nothing fancy or special...

My grouping were very similar to what I get with the G23 so I was very happy with the results. I am no sharp shooter but - once I got some comfort level with the trigger feel, etc - I was inside a 4-6" group at 7 and 10 yards. I have been shooting for less than a year and getting better but no where near where I hope to be accuracy-wise...

One thing - I did clean and lubricate the gun before I shot it but DID NOT clean and lubricate the magazines. They seemed very stiff and didn't seem it feed smoothly at times.

I also would like tritium sights to replace the white dots and would have been happy to pay a little more for them to be standard.

Bottom line: if you can find a Shield buy it; you will love it.

Welcome to the forum.

I love my Shield 40 as well. Always glad to see more positive reports instead of just the same old mag drop questions. No issues in 400+ rounds, very accurate, great trigger. It's a keeper!

Thanks for the welcome Dragon88!

My second option was going to be a Kahr PM9 but I didn't like the loooong trigger pull so figured I'd wait until I found a Shield. The wait was a lot shorter than I thought it would be.

Oh, and LSU just beat S. Carolina which helps out my Bulldogs on a hopeful SEC East championship - I guess I'm just a dreamer...

my story is very similar to yours Replican't.

i probably would have picked up a 9 if i had a choice, but the 40 was the first one i saw, so it went home with me.

i had been carrying my Kahr K9 due to it's size, but never really liked the trigger (even after sending it back to Kahr for the Elite trigger upgrade). being all steel, the K9 is also a little on the heavy side for it's size.

always wished someone would make a lightweight polymer single stack carry pistol with a good trigger.........for me, the Shield was the ticket.

so far, i've got over 450 rounds through mine with zero malfunctions. for piece of mind, i put a little dimple on the magazines to help them engage the mag-catch more effectively.

looking back, i'm glad i got the 40. it's not unpleasant to shoot, and larger caliber isn't necessarily a bad thing when it comes to self defense

I'm in the same boat. I have a Shield 40 with absolutely no problems at all. I have only put about 250 trouble free rounds thru it so far and all is well. The ergonomics of this pistol is amazing. Perfect for carry and honestly not hard to shoot even for extended periods. Almost the same size as my 642, but much more pleasant to shoot.

Insomniac, thanks for the feedback. Can you give me the details of how to put the "little dimple on the magazines"? I haven't have a problem so far but it sounds like it might be a good idea.

Also... Is anyone else not surprised that Glock hasn't made a >1" thick single stack back up/concealed carry gun yet?
