Default M&P Triggers.. are they all like the Shield?

Those who own multiple M&P's, is the Shield's trigger feel similar to that of other M&P pistols? I had looked a a .45 M&P probably 4-5 years ago when I bought my first gun but I ended up going with a 1911 because I loved the feel the trigger. I recently purchased a Shield and I love the form factor and how simple it is to disassemble and clean, but I really hate the feel of the trigger.

Now, granted, its purpose is for self defense.. so I am not looking at a super accurate target pistol.. but I can shoot so much better with my 1911 or my Browning Buckmark 22 because the trigger has such a better feel.

Do all M&P's have a similar trigger pull? I like the look and feel of the M&P Shield so much I am considering looking at a full sized M&P, but if I am going to use it mostly for target shooting I don't think I will like it if the trigger is similar to my Shield.

You appear to be in the minority. Most Shield owners love the feel of the trigger (myself included), with it's distinctive reset. The other M&P's don't have as good a trigger (which you may like ), although I'm OK with my 9FS trigger. There are rumors that S&W will be using the Shield trigger in their other pistols, but no confirmation from S&W.

Personally, I never liked the 'regular' M&P triggers and didn't feel like needing to buy an Apex kit to make it 'acceptable'. I ended up going with the XD line instead. When the Shield came out, I really liked its trigger and haven't flt the need to change a thing on it.

According to the thread linked below, S&W's using the Shield trigger in the others now.

Actually No I have 5 M&P's and the triggers are all pretty much different levels of unacceptable to me. I don't believe there is a new trigger like most here are declaring, I know that almost all of the trigger parts,(sear ,springs etc are interchangeable with other M&P products. What I believe is going on at S&W is that they had so many complaints about gritty triggers, that when they started producing the Shield they are spending a bit more time smoothing them out. I also think that due to the popularity of the Shield and its pretty decent trigger they are now focusing on smoothing out the rest of the M&P line. Apex Tactical sent out an email; to customers stating that the Shield Sear and Springs are the same as what is in the regular lineup of M&P's so I am not speaking without the benefit tha tknowledge, even though if you go to Apex's site they now offer a Shield Carry kit. I put the Apex DCAEK kit in my 9L and that trigger is far superior to all my other M&P's including the Shield.
I always try to explain to shooters if you have ever shot a pistol with really good trigger no explantion is necessary, and if you havn't shot one with a great trigger no explanation is possible! I have shot 1911 's that had 51/2 -6 # triggers but they felt like a 3 # trigger. Those .45's were all worked on by Military Armorer's and when you find a gunsmith that can do things like sear engagement, overtravel and take up you will understand what I am talking about. An example of a gunsmith would be Mr. Burwell's, superior trigger work on M&P's.

Agree with 1fly2ty. All M&Ps (Shield included) have the same parts, just a little bit of smoothing, nothing else.

APEX's web site says their DCAEK doesn't fit the M&P 45.

And the Shield is a different kit from the M&P.

"APEX's web site says their DCAEK doesn't fit the M&P 45"

That's because Sear housing block on M&P 45 is different than other M&Ps (9, 9c, 40, 40c, 357)

Why buy a pistol (let alone 5) with an unacceptable trigger?

I tried the M&P and the M&Pc, didn't like the triggers, so I didn't buy them. The Shield, on the other hand, while it may not be the perfect trigger, I can live with, without spending any more for a trigger kit. The trigger Fluff & Buff on the Burwell Guns site works fine and even that's not a 'Need to Do'.

(For those interested, check out: DONE WITH MY SHIELD!!! )

RobzGuns,
I bought 5 because I like the ergonomics, they fit my hand much better than other manufacturers of safe action pistols. The fact that a trigger is unacceptable to me is not a disqualifier from purchasing a firearm! In fact if you have ever purchased a say Remington 700 for hunting with a 7-8 lb trigger and found that to be a tad on the heavy side and decided to have a gunsmith bring it down to a reasonable level then I wouldn't say why did you buy the gun in the first place! My buddy had one of these and couldn't hit the broad side of a barn with it, after some initial adjustments he can now hit what he is aiming at!
A pistol trigger is no different, as a matter of fact there are a large number of post on this site that elude to the fact that after installing an apex DCAEK kit the owner was able to control the firearm better and actually start grouping their shots. If your happy with your shield thats great but to contradict everyone that thinks a trigger can be improved is nonsense. I suppose if I put some night sights or TFO's on the shield that would be a terrible thing too! Right! Since the shield isn't available with night sights everyone should buy some other pistol,
that does have them! At least that seems to be the logic that your applying to this topic. No one has to do anything to their M&P or any other gun, but sooner or later that will put most gunsmiths out of business, the bain of a gunsmith existance is the modification of firearms or repairing factory issues.
