Brand New M&P9. Polymer looks faded?
Hey all new to forum and new to guns. Just picked up my brand new M&P 9 FS. When I took it home to take it apart and learn a little about it I noticed the polymer frame almost looks like its been out in the sun and is faded/weathered. Here are some pictures let me know what you think. You can see the contrast by the grip that is black. Thanks!

Maybe when they were putting it together the backstraps came from a different batch of plastic/dye.
I wouldnt worry about it. These guns are not collectible and their value is in reliability and functionality. Shoot it, if you like the way it shoots keep it!
I buy mainly police guns, which are full if scratches and discoloration, but function just fine

I mean I guess. But it just seems it shouldn't be like that. Even of it isn't a big deal I wouldn't want a car that's paint looked a little faded even if it was a *** if I could get one that wasn't for same price. See where I'm coming from? I get your point but if it isn't supposed to be faded I'm not gunna just bend over.

Wipe it down with a little mineral oil or some ballistol if it bothers you. Personally I wouldn't worry about it.

It's my first gun so I wouldn't know the difference. My Roomate says it doesn't look faded. Must just be me I guess. Just wanted some more experienced opinions

Hard to tell with your photos, appears to be washed out. Might try different lighting.

I dont think its faded i think the back strap is just darker. Are they all like that or just that back strap? Did the store let you see it before you bought it?

Yes they let me see it but I just glanced, nor would I know the difference. I'll post pictures out of direct light that might be better in a second uploading to Dropbox..

It does look faded. What type of light? Florescent lighting can play tricks.
Keep in mind that down the road if you ever go to sell it, the fit/finish stands out.

First picture is in fluorescent but the rest are in regular lighting. Should I take it back to who I got it from, the FFL dealer or call S&W?

I'd go back to the FFL that you got it from and see if the others are the same.

It was like some used gun shop. They had **** for selection but I've shot these before none looked like this. Should I contact galleryofguns.com who I ordered it from, go back to the hole in the wall shop it was delivered to, or call S&W?

Wipe the frame down with some mineral oil/ballistol ...or CLP and see if it stays the same shade of color.

That looks terrible, I'd call s&w. You never know what caused that. It may compromise the integrity of the frame...that will definitly effect resale value imho...i wouldnt buy a used m&p that looked like it was rinsed off with gasoline...

I agree, the frame does look faded. Mine is more like the photos TreyE posted where the frame is darker and more closely matches the slide and backstrap. My backstrap is slightly darker than the frame, but not as much as yours.

Any advice who I should call to resolve this? The online site, or straight to S&W?

Trey....2 things: Don't bug your FFl and hold off on calling S&W...because if you look at your Gallery of Guns warranty info it says this:
"We've got you covered. If anything should ever go wrong with your purchase we'll provide immediate replacement or free repair."
Call GOG and have a chat.

I can understand, I'd be bummed too since you made plans to go shooting. But GOG has a good reputation and hopefully this will be resolved in short order.

The slide frame and grip inserts of my M&P40 are all pretty close in color. I would be sending that back if it were me.
It may just be cosmetic but you can't be 100% sure and as others have stated it would definitely effect the saleability if you ever decided you wanted to sell it someday.

I contacted Gallery of Guns and the gentleman on the phone told me, "Not a problem you have a lifetime warranty should ANYTHING happen to the gun just give us a call. Call the dealer you picked it up from, they'll contact their GOG rep, and we will send you out a brand new gun as soon as possible." Extremely good customer service there, wasn't expecting it to be that easy. Looks like Ill have to wait a week or two though. I feel as though the dealer that recieved it should have picked up on the discoloration. Oh well no hard feelings, just want my M&P!!!

Why are you so adverse to using a little bit of mineral oil to rejuvenate that polymer. It won't slick up the frame.
Edit: I see new gun on the way. Now that that's settled, wipe a spot with a little CLP (if you don't have mineral oil) and see if the color comes back. I'm curious.

No don't use hoppes. CLP is cleaner lubricant preservative ie. breakfree. Just wipe a spot with a little gun oil and see if it stays the same color it is now.

What have you used to clean it? Several gun cleaners are not poly friendly at all. I learned that the hard way years ago with a Mossberg 500 and Gunscrubber.

It is BNIB, never been touched with anything except my hands. I took those pictures an hour after it was in my possession after being picked up.

If you're going to return it, I wouldn't try anything on it, it should be returned in the condition you got it. Besides, I don't see the point. Whatever you put on it will likely only cause a temporary change in color and you'd have to keep reapplying it.

If wiping it with a damp cloth didn't help then I would be contacting someone. LGS, GOG, or S&W should do something for you. I would still be tempted to contact S&W just to be sure the frame is good as it's such an odd color difference. More than likely it's just fine and is a great shooter though. But it sure does look odd.

Cant really blame them. They dont know if maybe you got it cheaper because of that or maybe you like it that way. Heck my LGS wont even open the box until you arrive. That way if anything is missing they cant be blamed for steeling or loosing it

Rem oil did little to nothing on the small spot I tried. Made the faded part shiny and oily looking that's it. Just an FYI

Hard to tell from the pics, and I am not that up the M&P series, but is it possible the frame is a "tactical" green or olive drab, with black inserts?

Its supposed to be black, no other color differences that I can tell. Looks like it was supposed to be black but however the drying/heating/finishing process goes it went wrong. Faded as in like a deep fade, beyond the surface, in all the pores etc. Hope thats the answer you were looking for as I didnt completely understand the question.

If it is supposed to be black, then it is definitely off. My 45c is black, with the inserts matching. I know some distributors offer certain limited edition models with OD, desert tan, etc. finishes, thought it might be one of those. Must be a color blind inspector working on the QC line at Smith..
