Now I know this is a Smith forum, that being said, please talk me into the M&P over the Sig 226. I know the Sig is DA/SA. Other then that, convince me the M&P is the better choice.

The P226 has a long double action first shot (unless the user cocks the hammer first). That first double action stroke feels much like a S&W K-frame revolver in double action. In other words, not bad, and easy to hit the target with. However, there is always a risk of an unintended second shot with the Sig, if the user's finger bounces against the trigger in recoil when the pistol reverts to single action. I've seen that a few times at the indoor range. One needs to be aware of that risk. The single action trigger is rather light. But, holstering the Sig is fairly risk free thanks to the double action trigger. (provided the hammer is de-cocked first!!)
The S&W trigger is the same every shot. It is fairly light, with a short stroke. However, I have never had an unespected second shot when firing my Smiths.
Holstering any pistol that has a light, short stroke trigger can be risky if something catches in the trigger when pushing the pistol into the holster. Can you see the gun slide into the holster? Likely not. Holstering "blind" is not at all safe, in my view.
That is why my M&P pistols have the thumb safety option. Less risky when holstering. Then just snick the safety to fire position when securely seated in the holster. The thumb safety is also good for loading and inloading the M&P because it can be placed on during handling. The Sig does not allow that; chambering/clearing a round is done with a touchy single action trigger and the hammer cocked back.
The Sig is a tad heavier, with a thicker grip. The grip sides are rougher than the S&W's. That means less comfort in concealed carry.
Many on this forum do not agree with my opinion. But what works for me is all that I'm concerned about. My ideas may help you be safer.
