Well, just got back from the gun smith and got the orange trijicon installed. So far I really like them but will reserve judgment until I shoot with it. On the bad side the gun smith took off a lot of black on the slide. He ran out of black paint so he tried blue which just made it worse. So he's going to order more black and have me bring it back. He said he's give me a major discount for the problems. Will it look like new after??

Ouch! I'm not a gunsmith but looking at that, I wouldn't be surprised if it will need to be entirely refinished.

I had my slide machined and cerakoted, and my barrel is polished. So far everything else is still factory standard.

It's easy. I used nail polish, just fill over the lettering then, after it dries, wipe off carefully with paper towel wetted with NON-ACETONE polish remover(acetone will damage the finish. I tried red, it didn't show too well so redid in white, looks great!

Apex complete trigger, Armalaser TR 4 (amazing), old Crimson Trace LG-489
The apex trigger job changed the whole firearm completely!! I was nearly going to bring it back and then I tried an Apex on a shield..... night and day seriously... fixes everything about the firearm.
dropped the CT laser in favor of the Armalaser as the CT was also Massivly unreliable and its over a 4 week turn around to get you CT laser back... CT customer service, while very nice people, do not have the policies in place for helping replace defective lasers. And thats enough to kill the deal alone with me.... on top of the Armalaser has CT beaten hard, like proper hard in the TR series... they just released a model for the shield. I'm one of the first few lucky ones to get my hands on it and let me tell you, its better than you can imagine.... crimson who????

Hello, New guy to post on the forum but have been lurking for about a year and reading all the posts, thought I'd share some pics of my just finished S&W Shield 9mm. I am not a gunsmith. But I wanted to change my Shield up from everybody elses.
Milled all the engraving off the slide except the S&W logo
Added decorative serrations along the top surface of slide
Undercut and smoothed the trigger guard
Stippled the frame also the extended mag and weak hand said of the frame as well
Installed Trijicon HD night sights
Removed the 9mm indication on the barrel hood
Smoothed out the Mass. trigger, now a crisp smooth 5lbs( had a real gunsmith do that work)
Titanium Nitride plated barrel
Matte finish Hard Chrome plate on slide and extractor

Works very well.
I like the NDZ Aluminum version better from an asthetic perspective, but the tip angle of the Pearce is larger and thereby affords more real estate for the pinky.

I started out with the 40, and loved it so much I got a 9. The 40 has an apex sear, pearce grip ext, polished internals, big dot sights, and a little white on the slide and barrel so I can quickly see which caliber I'm grabbing... The 9 is identical except with i-dot sights and aluminum Apex trigger. I've trained with the safety, I like having it, so I bought the 9 with safety as well.

Forgive me, what is strip-tex? Is it a process (like stippling) or a product (like talon grips). Polish on the barrel looks great. Did you soak in white vinegar first or just wet sand and polish?

My son put the grip paper on the back of my grip and it works great and looks factory as it is very close to the look of the grip before he put in on. Being in Florida where the humidity is high and sweaty hands are often, it is great. I like the white logos and have some sharpies for metal I am going to try on mine.

This should be in the mail Thursday. Letters are white, so it'll go along with the white i've already colored the lettering on the slide.

Nothing very fancy here. Trijicon HD night sights, Talon grip tape and Pearce grip extensions. Little bit of white nail polish to doll her up just a bit. The trigger is crisper than my stock Pro Series' trigger was and is plenty good enough for a smallish carry gun, but toying with an Apex anyway.
Edited because I broke the image link.

Any suggestions?
All i'v done so far is a simple dark forest green color fill on the engravings (didn't want anything too flashy), i want to put some night sight paint on all three dot sights. If anyone has any suggestions for what else to do I'm all ears.

Got my Shield 9 back a few weeks ago from Ft. Daniel in Lawrenceville, GA and am 100% satisfied with the results :
Nickel Boron Coating - Slide, Barrel, and internals
OD Green Cerakote Frame and Mags (8 rd. and 7 rd. w/Pearce Grip)
...and a little color fill in hunter green
Next up is going to be the sights... still wondering which ones I should get. Pics attached of the finished work

Truglo TFX sights
Talon Grips
NDZ grip extension
Internal "trigger job" by certified S&W gunsmith: polishing/enhancing action ( no Apex kit) reduced trigger pull from 7+ to 5.
Polished feed ramp
Polished mag interior feed lips
Metallic Gold color-filled stamping
I love my Shield. I think that's it for now

XS Big Dots done by a gunsmith. Apex trigger....same gunsmith. Internals polished.....same gunsmith.
In my area, you can get all the work I had done for about 65 bucks. That does not include the parts.

I'm curious for those that have colored in the engravings on your shield..how does it hold up over time? Do you have to redo it every so often after a lot of use on the range, holstering, cleaning, etc. ? I'm considering this for mine but not totally sure I want to do it yet.
First thing is getting a new back plate for me I believe.

I removed the stock striker safety plunger in the slide and used a second one I have to grind and polish a smoother radius. Polished and changed the plunger release arm radius from straight to a slight arc without altering the overall height. Polished the contact area with the sear also and checked for any burrs on the slide and or frame. Made a huge difference with my group size and without making the trigger pull weight any lighter.
I took the M&P armorer course and have done similar changes to full-size M&P 9's but not to a Shield. Really like the result and the gun looks perfectly stock. I can also change the plunger back if needed and not have any permanent change to the gun.
Frank.
