Default My M&P Shield with Trijicon HD Nightsights

I just recently bought my Shield 9 after looking for the past two months at a local gunshop. I have only put 100 rounds through it so far but as stated good accuracy for the size of the pistol with no failures at all. I have to agree about the trigger pull being a little harder than I like and I plan on upgrading it when the funds are available. I had Trijicon HD night sights put on it today ( Model SA1370 ) The gun smith said he thought they would not work thought they would be to wide but I said go ahead and everyone in the store wanted to check them out they were installed. If you hit the front sight with a flashlight the orange glows in the dark.

I put the same sight on my Shield, and I think we both made good choice in sights, also have the same on my Compact.

Looks good. I have Ameriglo i-Dot Pros (almost identical to Trijicon HD's) on my other weapons.

Looks awesome! I'm thinking about getting the same orange front and then a single green for the rear.

Are the Trijicon HD Night Sights and the Ameriglo Pro Glo basically the same night sights? I've looked at some models of Trijicon HD's and some models of the Aneriglo's and some of them seem to be exactly the same Night Sights.

The front sight is for all practical purposes identical. Amerilglo uses Trijicon inserts as well. Not sure on the M&P line of sights ...but for Glocks they offer choices for the type of rear sight you want (i-dot, operator, hack, etc).

Nice setup OP! I have the Trijicon HD sights on my Glock G17 Gen4 and love them. My Shield 9mm has TFOs as it was a toss up for me between the two. Either sight gives a great sight picture...

Shot 100 rounds through it today with the new sights and I did not notice any change in impact and still getting 2.5" groups at 7 yards. It was actually easier and faster to get a good sight picture. I will post some new pics with targets in a couple weeks.

I'm surprised that S&W doesn't offer these excellent night sights right from the factory. They do on all the other M&Ps so perhaps it's only a matter of time before they do.

Hi,
New to the forums.
I just ordered the trijicon hd sights for my Shield. The store generally puts sights on guns but referred me out to a gunsmith for the installation. Is there something tricky about the installation? I have a local gunsmith but would be willing to ship my slide to their recommended guy if it's something unusual.

Thanks in advance.

Very tight. You will need a padded vice and rubber mallet. I had a friend from ATEi. I love mine and have had them since last May.

Do you have these sights on your Shield? I still have the stock sights and have been looking at upgrading. Any reviews of these?

How acurate are these compaired to the factory S&W sights? Also are these like a combo big dot/night sights? They look really good and kinda best of both worlds.

My son has them on his G19. It seems to me harder to acquire targets during the day than with my G19 with stock sights. Just my opinion...

These sights were easier to acquire the target quickly indoors/outdoors day/night, also I felt it was easier to get a good sight picture translating into more accurate shots. The rear sight blade is angled slightly also which reduces glare ( can kinda see that in the first picture). I like them a lot and wish they made them for my P99. I also like them better than stock because they have the step on the rear sight which if carrying is good for the ability to rack a round one handed on your belt or some other object if injured which is very important to me.

As far as installation, I was told they just take some work to fit as you have to mallet them in as already mentioned. My local gun shop charged $40 for installation, $15 more than the norm for sight installation.

Nice setup OP. I have these sights on my 9FS but need to get them for my shield 9 and possibly for my 45c. Those are my carry guns and I find that for me, a colorblind (in the sense that some colors are muted) person, the huge yellow front sight is one of the most amazing aiming devices I have come across that isn't something like a red dot. I can acquire it so quickly and really feel like my ability to hit is enhanced by it. My friend has the orange and she really likes it too; to me it's hard to pick up but I think for a lot of red-green colorblind people orange is hard and yellow is the most easily noticed color.

Welcome! I have only been a member of the forum a short myself, but not new to handguns. As far as replacing the sights, I paid a gunsmith to put on Big Dots. He destroyed the factory ones getting them off and mared the Big Dots getting them on. I ended up sending the gun to S&W to get mag problem fixed and asked them to install factory sights. Believe it or not they replaced the Big Dots with factory ones no charge. Everything I have read the rear sight is a real bear to get off. I personally would get a gunsmith with the right equipment to replace them.

If you have a brass punch and a hammer you can do it. You push them out and push the new ones on. Just make sure you are careful with the rear sight and watch for the spring for the fp plunger.

Nice setup. I have the Ameriglo i-dots on mine and Ameriglo is sending me a Orange front this week. I think that color is the easiest for my eyes to pick up in all light conditions.
I first started with the Dot/post sight setup on a old W.German Sig 226. I notice all my first time shooters shot far better with that type of sight picture than the standard three dot setup. I switched to the rounded U-Notch rear on my Shield and love it for quick acquisition and follow up shots. They seem offer the best compromise between the XS Big dots and a stock three dot setup.

Maybe I'm missing the boat with night sights. A pistol should be a natural extension of your hand. In fact, some trainors tell you to keep your index finger (trigger finger) extended toward the target, until you are ready to fire. So you are pointing at the target. A Shield has such a short barrel, I would think that this would be especially true. What benefit do the sights add?

I have also seen folks shooting night sights, in the dark, and misaligning the sight dots, shooting way left or way right. The orange ring on the OP's sights help with that, but I'm not sold on the overall benefit.

Josywales, that's why I got a single dot rear night sight. All I have to do is align the front night sight on top of the single dot rear night sight at the target. If I had a two dot rear night sight, I would have to align the front sight in between the two dot rear sights. Usually the intended target is the two legged kind and standing vertical so it would take less time to lay the front sight on top of the single dot rear sight and pull the trigger, IMO

Those look great. I really like those. Now to get myself a set and have them installed. Thanks for sharing.

Usually the intended target is the two legged kind and standing vertical so it would take less time to lay the front sight on top of the single dot rear sight and pull the trigger, IMO
If I were considering night sights, that would be the route I would take.

Although not night sites, years ago, Sig Sauers had a rear post and a front dot. Put the pumpkin on the post and fire. It doesn't get any simpler than that. I never understood the 3 dot, or what it does better than the post and dot.

Those look really good. I'm still between the trijicon and the tfo's. I have the trijicons on my G23 and love them but I am leaning towards the tfo's.

I wonder if Trijicon will release a Shield version of the sights. I have them on my HK P30 and love them.

What everyone says in this post is dead on.

I have ALWAYS been a 3-dot fan, but I've got post-dot on my SW Shield, and it is really amazing. Faster, more accurate, able to leap taller buildings, etc. I'm getting my G19 changed to match my Shield.

I liked 3 dot, but I was wrong.

Shocks me to say it, but sign me as a post+dot convert!

If you are going to have night sights, I think this or just the single night sight in the front is the best way to go.

Here is the Ameriglo version installed. U shaped rear makes for very quick acquisition of the front sight.

I have the Trijicon HD with the yellow front sight on all three of my FS M&Ps and I love them. I've been waiting for Trijicon to come out with a set for the Shield. Now I will have to look at this set up.

IMHO as a 33 year law enforcement firearms instructor, these are some of the best sights available for a defensive pistol!

I wish the Ameriglo Pro I dot rear sight was serrated like the Trijicon HD rear sight is.
