Well i had an M&P 40 fs a while back and sold it after a while and experimented with CZ, Sig, Springfield, Ruger, Glock, etc and now am back to the M&P. They just shoot nicer for me. Although the Sigs were real nice. Anyway, I had a couple questions regarding the new M&P i have.
The barrel hood doesn't make full contact with the slide when it retracts. The wear pattern shows that the center of the barrel hood does not contact the slide. I confirmed this with a flashlight through the front of the slide when barrel was disassembled.
In the picture you can see the wear line stops in the middle of the hood instead of going all the way across and as can be guessed the slide shows similar wear.
This should be fine, correct? I mean the barrel hood not making 100% contact uniformly across shouldn't cause any premature wear or failures?
Also if you notice where the barrel hood makes contact, the edge seems to be chamfered a bit from the contact. You can see on the far right and somewhat on the far left of the barrel hood cutout in the slide, the edge comes out more.
Lastly, the machining on the breech face seems is gouged a bit in one spot. You can see the little piece that is dented in on the bottom right side of the breech face. It looks like it just was put there when it was machined because it is finished over it. Is this cause for any concern? I didn't notice it when I looked over the gun because it is in a hard spot to see. Plus the breech face was covered in brass.
Thoughts? Thanks for reading my long post.
