Question Hello Everyone. Buying New M&P22

Hello. I've never purchased a 22 cal pistol, but it looks like my 9mm and I like that feel. It does have one drawback though. No adjustable palm swell. It might be no problem for some, but my grip is a concern since I have some nerve damage in my hands. Of course, there will be minimal recoil, but I might consider a Beretta Nano (9mm). I'm also considering the M&P Shield (9mm), but nobody has them here in Baltimore. Any suggestions?

The "medium" palmswell works best for me so the M&P9 and M&P22 feel the same in the hand. I had it to hunting camp last week and the other hunters all said they liked it very much. Midway also sells a replica M&P CO2 BB gun for under $40. If you buy the m&P22, I predict you will like it as much as I do. Regarding a small 9mm, there are now a lot on the market. I bought my Kel Tec PF-9 a couple of years ago and I like it and see no need to "upgrade", but when I see them in the gun stores I handle them. Personally, I didn't care for the way the Shield felt in my hand. IMO, the recent election has caused a lot of people to feel the need to buy firearms. There was a lot of small guns being sold to women even before that. If you buy a Shield, Nano, or similar gun, what will you use it for? They are primarily intended for defense. Most are fairly snappy. Personally, I like the new small Springfield .45. If I was a LEO, I would consider that for a BUG.

If you are looking for a comfortable, secure grip try the M&P 22 with the Pachmayr Tactical overgrip.

M&P 22 Grip Theres a slip on grip that works

I think you will be pleased and surprised at how good it feels in your hand.

I second this. I actually just picked one up a few days ago from Wal-Mart. I really like how it feels.

I know this doesn't help right now, but I am working on a new polymer frame for the .22 that has the ability to change back grips, those that are come with the full size. But it'll be awhile, still in the stage of modeling the current frame.

Red flag!!! Anyone with more knowledge of this can correct me if I'm wrong!

Since the frame's are what matters as far as serial numbers and registration go, I hope you don't plan on selling your new frame to anyone unless you've got an FFL and a way to serial number them.

Hey Mike,

The M&P 22 is very similar to the centerfire M&P 9/40 with the medium grip insert. Give one a try. Its a great little practice gun and is much fun to shoot.

dont worry. dont worry. But correct me if I am wrong, the serial number isn't on the polymer frame on the M&P22, it's on the innards of the gun.

It's on the right side of the frame. Just like the other M&P pistols.

You're correct. To build a new frame and sell would require a whole new serial. Ending this project I was working on, ha. I got so caught up in wanting something new totally forgot about the legal side of it. Thank you.

Sorry to burst your bubble. :-) That's not to say you couldn't modify your own frame to accept swappable backstraps...

No worries! But you're right. I am working on a new stock for the 15-22. I'll focus more on that
