Gunvault MV500-STD Microvault Pistol Gun Safe - Amazon.com
Mofo:
Perfect for the nightstand and low profile fits perfect under the front seat of my Honda Accord for vacations for cash, jewelry and credit cards. Cable attaches to the bed frame and car seat frame and I can open in 2 seconds in the dark and holds my full size XD 45 and Shield in Desanti pocket holster.

Also remember these are not a true safe but more of a lock box. Good to keep kids from their contents but can be carried and opened fairly easy. No insulation just metal sides and some like I have with large bolts.
Amazon.com: BARSKA Biometric Safe: Sports & Outdoors $150.35 warehouse deal box damaged but safe should have on damage.

Make sure you can open it with your eyes closed the first time or make sure it's heavy enough to hit them with!

This is what i installed under my bed. It bolts down, if u want to bolt it down. But the damn thing already weighs 75lbs. So its not like anyone is running away with it in a hurry, lol.
Mine houses my Saiga 12 and my 1911 without any issues.

I use a Winchester gun safe that I picked up at Walmart for under $50 and mounted it in my nightstand drawer, 4 digit code unlocks fast. Academy has them also.

One with a mechanical push-button lock would be my choice. There are several brands avail. depending on what features you are looking for. These type locks are fast, reliable, and can be replaced if you ever do wear one out. Look at the Vline, Fort Knox, and FAS1 Safe. There are a couple more brands too.

Just spent alot of time doing research and not wanting any headaches I went with Fort Knox. Childproof and 2 seconds open if you know the mechanical combination.

What model Fort Knox safe did you get? I have an M&P 40c on order. I was looking at the Auto Pistol Box for the truck, and possibly another, or the next larger, for next to my bed. I was wondering what model you had and how yours fit in it? I have kids and would like to get at least one safe/lock-box to keep curious fingers away.

FTK-PB for my bedside. It can be opened in a split second in total darkness.

Thanks for the update. That was another I was considering for the bedside. I really wondered about the FTK-AUTO for my truck though. I think I better get a larger one like that for the house. I've got time to do some research for the truck.

+1 on the Ft. Knox. I've done a fair amount of research and will be ordering one soon myself - they seem like they would be pretty good at keeping out nosy kids, plus there aren't any electronic issues to worry about. The V-Line also looks pretty decent, if you aren't too cracked up about the Ft. Knox. Just my $.02.

The way to go for a safe.
Is to get yourself a Graffunder or a Brown. However, a lot of people are not up to spending the money for a bona fide safe. More often then not they end up buying a residential security container.
Residential security containers will often suit the needs of a lot of people. And they are like any number of other consumer products. There are good ones and bad ones. As with so many other things. You generally get what you pay for.

A little shameless self promotion, lol. But seriously, that is a nice looking safe. Where are you based out of FAS1?

More important than a safe for your nightstand is a fire extinguisher.
For the price of a safe, you can buy 6 or 8 fire extinguishers for around your house, every room, next to every bed. Statistically speaking, you are more likely to have a house fire than to need your pistol while asleep in bed.
I'm always amused that people will put a handgun, a tactical belt, a charged cellphone, and a flashlight next to their bed, but neglect the fire extinguisher.

Because if the fire alarm wakes me up, I'm getting my family out of the house. The gun, cell phone, and flashlight are probably coming with me as well. Chances are it'll be too late for a little fire extinguisher to put out. Fire extinguishers are good for small fires, if you catch them fast enough. You don't try to put out a raging fire with a collection of fire extinguishers.
Finally, I don't smoke, so my bed will not be the first place to catch fire.

I couldn't resist. I do hope to be able to do some advertising on this site in the next month or so. It's only right.
It is the first video review that I have seen from a customer. I make them here in San Antonio, TEXAS! I only sell them online and I am just someone who wanted something that was not available when I was looking. This is what I came up with.

Just bought this one on eBay. Super easy/quick access by just swiping your fingerprint.

And you'll be able to open the door, head down the hall, and get the kids? A fire extinguisher can be used for more than putting the fire out. Controlling it, or allowing you to maneuver/buying yourself extra time to make your escape, allowing your children/family to do the same.
I'm not going to argue about the utility of a fire extinguisher in a gun safe thread. It was merely meant to be a thinking point, keep your fire extinguisher next to your pistol, etc.
I'd ask you to try thinking about it.

Agreed, your fire extinguisher is just as much of a deterrent to fire as is a pistol to an intruder.
Actually that fire extinguisher can be used for many other reason, but as Rob said this is a gun safe thread. So i'm not going to jump into that. I believe Rob hit the nail on the head.

Right, it's not the place for a discussion on fire extinguishers. But since you ask, if I can't open my door because there is a fire on the other side, just having a fire extinguisher is not going to make it any safer to open. I'd probably be better off going out my window and in the window to my kids room, assuming they are not already out. I do not buy a handgun (or cell phone, or flashlight) JUST to keep next to the bed. I don't think most people do. But if I have a gun, it needs to be kept in a safe location away from curious children. That could just as easily be in the closet, or some place else, but in the very unlikely event someone broke into my house at night, I'd rather have it nearby. The fire extinguisher may be another thing to consider, but I'd sooner put them in places they are more likely to be useful, like the kitchen, by the fireplace, in the garage, etc. Like most people, I'm not buying fire extinguishers in bulk to keep all over the house. But I am likely to keep them in areas with a source of fire where they can be used before the fire gets out of control. I'm not the type of person who over prepares for every single possibility. There are just too many events to prepare for. Most importantly, we should be teaching our kids how to get out in case of a fire, and where to meet outside. We also need to teach them about firearm safety, as soon as they are able to understand, while still keeping our guns safe from accidents. And with that, I'll shut up and see about contacting FAS1 about his great looking products.
