New Shield
My Father in Law has been hankering for a new pocket pistol. He's been looking at a Kimber Solo, but its a bit out of my price range right now. Went by the LGS to inquire if they had any prospects of getting a Shield any time soon. I asked the owner about a Shield and be motioned me to come back to his office. He proceeded to produce a new Shield in .40. "I didn't want to sell this to those guys out front" he said. Apparently they had also been inquiring about Shields. A few minutes later I was out the door, having left $399 plus tax with my buddy. I really wanted a 9mm, but knowing I can convert this one to 9 if necessary, I pulled the trigger anyway (pun intended). Now I'll have to make pappy in law some 40 light ammo. He's 86, so he gets a pass for being a bit recoil sensitive. Anyway, that's one less Shield on the market.

Good for you. Nothing wrong with a .40 cal. especially if you reload. Cost should be pretty much the same as loading 9mm. Nice to be in the right place at the right time.
As a RSO I see a lot of Solo's. Most of them bought used. I love Kimber's but the Solo can be a very fussy shooter. Very ammo specific. Not a major problem if it is totally for self defense, but expensive for range shooting. I would prefer the Shield over the Solo any day of the week. BTW. You got a good price from your LGS.

Congrats on the Shield .40. Welcome to the Shield Big Boy club, hehe. You will enjoy the 9mm conversion for the .40. Its basically like having 2 guns in 1. Plus its nice to have a gun that covers to very popular rounds in case the s**t ever hits the fan.

M&P Shield 9 ordered on 10 November 2012 from Bud's Law Enforcement arrived at local FFL today. $335.00, shipped.
This one had a sample shell dated 27 November 2012. So it went from Springfield, MA to a distributor, to Lexington, KY (Buds'), to me in about two week's time.
Haven't shot it yet, but careful inspection shows perfect fit and finish.

I also got a Bud's Shield, $335 plus $20 for my FFl. Ordered the 10th, test round dated 11-27, the only difference in mine is I have a picture so mine is real!!
It hangs out of battery like the rest, but does go into battery when I pull the trigger. I will have to see where it hangs up and see if I can polish the problem away, otherwise I will put it out of battery a hundred times or so and see if it ever fails to fire. It won't be in my holster until I'm confident it will work 100%.
I also ordered some heavy horse hide and Kydex. I have a lot of pistols that need holsters.

Just visited another larger gun store. They also had a Shield 40 in the case. Priced at $419. That town has 10% sales tax, so about $460 OTD.
