Picking up an M&P 9 tomorrow!
I am picking up an M&P 9 FS tomorrow after work to give to my wife for Christmas. I have recently started using Frog Lube, and love it. I know we will be going to the range as soon as she unwraps it, so would it be a good idea to get the frog lube on it before I wrap it up? I am not much of a pistol shooter unless it is a revolver. I used it on her Jennings 25, and it turned a non functioning paperweight into a good functioning little pistol. She has been wanting this for a long time, and I have been telling her that they are on backorder. Lucky for me she didn't check into it herself because she knows I would have bought her one if they where out there. She knows she is getting it, and thanks to the local shop owner, she thinks I put $100 down to be put on a waiting list and it should be in around April. She is going to be like Ralphie on Christmas.
She better have gotten me the new reloading press I want or I will make her wait until April for it.

What a great Christmas gift, I am sure she will enjoy! I just bought one of these for myself, should be in on Friday or Saturday hopefully.

I really like the way they feel in my hand, but I want a 45. We looked at the all kinds of 9mm's at Gander Mt a few months ago and I handled a few Rugers, XD's, Glocks and an M&P 9 pro. I prefered the XD and M&P. The ruger wasn't bad in my hand but not as good as the other 2. I didn't like the glock at all. She tried the ruger then the M&P, she didn't go any further and decided she wanted the M&P. Lucky for me she didn't want the pro version and I put things in motion to get it for her for christmas. Lucky for me she also didn't pay much attention to me wanting a set of 9mm dies for christmas, I don't have a 9mm.

Give it a good cleaning (like the manual says),frog lube, than wrap it up. THEN,you will be ready for the range. Stay Safe and have a good time at the range.

It's home waiting for me to get done working my weekend shift and the wife to go to work on monday. From what I could see upon looking it over real good and doing a quick field strip, it doesn't appear to have any lube on it at all. It sure will make it easier to frog lube it. I really like the way this thing feels in my hand. I may just order myself an M&P 45.

It's recommended to give the gun a good cleaning and lube before shooting it

Ditto the other comments on clean and lube before wrapping.
M&P's are getting to be a modern classic: great ergonomics for most people, manageable recoil, pretty accurate*, and typically very reliable -- at a good price. And backed up by S&W's great customer service. Enjoy, and report back on the first shooting session... Always valuable to get the distaff side's views on a range trip or a new pistol.
*There are some threads about folks getting M&P 9's with less than outstanding accuracy, but that appears to have been corrected.

You could give it to her for Christmas along with her own bottle of Frog Lube, then let HER clean, lube, learn her own field strip, THEN go shooting, I think she will enjoy it even more. BTW, my wife and I have HER M&P9 on lay a way, won't have it done till after Chistmas, she'll just have to open a new holster and mag carrier, oh well, at least it's coming, it's been a long time.
