Frog Lube???
Hey guys,
Was just wondering what you thought of Frog Lube? Found a store in my area that sells it. There are alot of videos out there. Is it really that good or over rated?

I contemplated trying Froglube a few times but never ended doing it. Most videos are people with glocks using it so im curious to know how it works with the m&ps.

I've used it on my Bravo Company, M&Ps and Glock 20 with success. The only thing I consider a drawback is that it takes a little more time to apply and it doesn't work well with other lubes. So, it's all FL or none at all.

I use frog lube on all of my and my wife's guns. I use on my M&P 9c, and my M&P 15 sport. works great. Like I said, I use it on all of our firearms.

I really like it. I have switched to it for all of my firearms. I agree with the previous post, it is a little more difficult to apply the first time, after the first application it is much easier. and cleaning after shooting is a breeze. I just wipe down with a microfiber towel, run a bore snake down the barrel and apply a small amount of the liquid lube to the barrel. It also smells better.

I use Mobile 1 mixed with a dash of ATF on all my guns. It is inexpensive, works great, and available everywhere. My second choice of lubricant is Breakfree CLP. It is inexpensive, available almost everywhere and works great. Ballistol also works well. One poster noted Frog Lube was shown to work really well on Glocks. Funny, Glocks are one of the few firearms that work just as well with no lube as they do with lube. I have never used Frog Lube and don't intend to. There are to many proven good lubes available to strart using one just because it is expensive and has a catchy name. I guess that makes me a curmudgeon

FrogLube has many great reviews, and I have no doubt it would serve you well.
I might try it some day, but I have such a supply of other stuff that works, I have no need to purchase it soon.

I love Frog Lube. It's all bio based and non toxic. I like that I can sit at my coffee table or dinner table without any worries. It also smells good. I really became a believer when I was at training last month and we were using a new frangible ammo. I had just gave my .223 a Frog Lube cleaning and my rifle was the only one not jamming. I use it on all of my M&P's also.

Love it. Been using it on 3 pistols (Ruger LCP, S&W M&P, XDM) since each one was new. All work flawlessly and show no noticeable wear. Highly recommend it.

I use it exclusively now. First application is after a degreasing with rubbing alcohol and apply. I don't heat the gun. I just go shoot it and it gets hot.
I then wipe the gun down after use and reapply.
The gun gets more slippery where applied and soon I find myself using less lube and elbow grease to clean.
What really convinced me is after using it on my DI LMT AR. Slick stuff.

I've been using it on my M&P9 for a few months now with no problems. Like someone pointed out the first application is the hardest. Afterwards, it's pretty easy. It doesn't stink up the house and isn't greasy on the hands.
The best comparison I can come up with is it's like Rain-X for your gun. Doesn't allow gunk stick; it wipes off.

I haven't used it, but there is something to be said for not "stinking up the house". This is my wife's complaint not mine. Being a retired chemist and a long time pyro, I love the smell of solvents and burning gun powder. Maybe frog lube is the answer to my wife's intolerance. I think I will give it a try.

Not my experience, even on the AR. I don't lube with the liquid, only the paste.

The OP is looking for feedback on Froglube. He is not asking what YOU use. If you have nothing good to say or no experience with Froglube (and you dont intent do) what do you feel it is necessary to talk down on it? Just doesnt make sense.

He is offering an alternative to use. While Froglube is near $4 an ounce, Mobil 1 is $6 a quart. How do we know Froglube isn't repackaged Mobil 1? The OP might be interested to know there are products of equal quality for a lot less cash. GARY

The OP was asking about Froglube, positives or negatives. I didnt see anywhere where he was asking what else to use. If someone said, "i tried it but did not like it because..........." then thats understandable. When someone chimes in and has nothing but negatives to say about something that he hasnt tried and does not intend to, then its uncalled for.
It reminds me of the threads like someone asking if they should get a sig 229 or sig 226 and you always have "the guy" that says "get a glock".

Anybody actually test the frog lube to over 500 rounds through it without lubricating?
What about without cleaning over 500 rounds with froglube?

+100%
Mob1 is also a petrochemical, which is harmful to human body, esp in prolonged contact with the skin, like when cleaning and applying. Plus it will run out of the weapon. The FL paste stays put.
IMO the expense is worth additional peace of mind after watching my father die of B Cell lymphoma due to exposure to such chemicals.

I wouldn't call it a test, but I'll share my experience.
I did a carbine class with over 500 rounds in a single day with no cleaning or lube during the 500rds. Not even a couple of drops in the BCG, mid day like I had to do when running break free, so the weapon was not run wet either. FL Paste will liquify when hot, and keep lubing. It will reactive when re-heated also.
The class was a week long (~2000 5.56 and ~600 rds 9mm) and after each day I would perform the 10-15 minutes cleaning of my AR and G19 during the down time before hitting chow hall. The G19 only got wiped down and then cleaned at the end of week.
One day, 2 bolt gas ring blowouts and the LMT never missed a beat,
A typical outing outside of classes with my AR is 200+ rounds in simulated CQB training within 2 hours. Multiple shots, multiple targets, varying positions including prone, urban prone in desert like South Tx conditions. The weapon gets used as intended. I don't bench rest my AR and shoot 25-50 rounds.
My cleaning regimen has changed for all my weapons however, due to FL.
Bore snake with 3-4 passes of a bore snake w/FL, wipe down receiver, BCG, bolt with lightly lubed patches with FL liquid, and reapply paste. No dedicated cleaners/solvents, no chamber brushes, no excessive scrapping or removal of carbon. Only FL.
My LMT is 18 months old, has >8k rounds through it. It has only known Froglube and it has not experience a single malfunction. Even with 2 blown gas rings.
Having mil training, I used to be super anal about cleaning an AR. Not anymore and the reliability of the LMT and the effectiveness of FL are the 2 primary reasons I don't worry about it as much. For all my weapons.

Froglube
Use it on my S&W 1911 and Beretta 92fs. Easy to clean, no smoke, smells good, and can save on the nitrile gloves.

I've put 450 rounds through my M&P 22LR using FL without any issues and you know how dirty 22 rimfire rounds are. The gun still cleaned up easily and looked good afterward.

As stated before, FL is natural biodegradable lube. I don't wear gloves to clean my gun, when applying, I use my fingers and a q-tip in tight places. And it does not dry out your hands like petrochemical based solvents. I will always use it as long as it is available.

I used frog lube for a while and I like it a lot. But since it is more trouble to apply I went back to CLP to clean and wipe down and then apply grease to the rails.

I love the stuff. I use it on all of my guns & it works well. The fresh minty smell is also a plus. Once treated the lubrication properties are great, plus it makes clean up a breeze. Last time I took my .22's out, I went through about 400 rounds. Clean up was as easy as wiping it off with a rag & running a bore snake through once. Add a little more Frog Lube and done. Well worth the price in my opinion. An added plus is that a portion of the profits go to charity: Troops Direct, Lone Survivor Foundation, and the Navy Seal Foundation. The founder of the company is a retired Navy Seal.

I have found that M-Pro 7 products do a superior job without strong solvent odors. I think Hoppes produces some excellent products. After using No. 9 for years, I have found that their new products do a great job without aggravating my wife's sensitive nose, and that, too, is worth something to me.
That said, if Frog Lube works for you and protects your guns to your satisfaction -- great! There are many goood products, and each has its proponents. The only one I have really heard any negative feedback on is Militec.

I have put over 500 rounds through my 1911 without cleaning. Since I've discovered it, I've only used Frog Lube on the 1911.
As I use my other guns, they get the Frog Lube treatment as well. If you try it, you will like it. It is expensive though.

I've been using Frog Lube exclusively on my M&P40c. Purchased the weapon last August and put 2000 rounds through it so far. No failures! It has a pleasant smell and is non-toxic (wife appreciates that). The stuff works well for me.

I think any good reputable lube will work on any firearm as long as you clean and lube your 'piece' on a regular basis. I am speaking only as a casual shooter...... their is the exception. Their are a lot of good lubes on the market today and I personally would not have a problem if given just one of them to use on my weapon. Good regular cleaning and maintenance is the key to any firearms reliability.

One point to remember about Frog Lube is that it is a CLP, not just a lube. It really shines as a cleaner as after being treated, you can just wipe it clean with a rag. Another thing I've noticed is that it will make the polymer parts on my M&P's look like new without making them slippery.

I am highly impressed with froglube after time at the range today, both the M&P and the 500s&w cleaned up in half the time and no stench like usual, I will buy more after the feild test sample that I recieved runs out.

After reading this, broke down and bought some on Friday, both liquid and paste. Other than it smells like Bengay, it seems okay. I treated about six or seven guns with it, including by brand new AR. Haven't fired any of them yet. After using it on the first guns in the conventional manner I was acustomed to, I looked at one of the website videos. Then I went back and did it the recommended way. had to go buy a cheap hair dryer and microfiber cloths at Walmart. As I said, I haven't fired anything treated with Froglube yet, I noted the next morning after applying the stuff the not so correct way, the trigger and slide of my M&P 45 seemed a little smoother - or I was just imagining things. Anway, I'm going to play with it for a little while and see how it does. If the new AR works like a top out of the box with this stuff and doesn't carbon up terribly bad, then I'll continue to use it and get rid of all my petro-based stuff.
For those of you who prefer synthetic motor oil, I saw that Royal Purple recently marketed a firearms product.

While I'm a casual shooter, I started running FL on all three of my firearms, M&P 9, M&P 15, Remington 870, after finding it on the web. So Garbo have been VERY pleased with it. I asked a former SEAL friend who is now a firearms instructor in TX what he thought, and he is using it on all of his weapons and even became a distributor.
As others have noted, it is plant based, nontoxic, and smells much better than traditional lubes. While I don't have 2k+ rounds through my AR since starting with FL, my initial impression is that even though FL costs more than motor oil, it doesn't look like you need nearly as much long term (but admittedly I've never been a fan of motor oil anyhow)
The bonus for me, as another commented previously, is that I know I'm supporting a small veteran owned business who gives back instead of a multinational corporation. Every bottle of FL makes a difference to the company, Mobile couldn't give a rat's ***** if you buy a quart every 6 months.

I use FL on everything.
Only 1 issue - Since the firearm needs to be seasoned, I had a choice, I could "borrow" the wife's hair dryer, or put them in the oven.
When I went to do the 2nd gun, I made sure she was out of the house!
I suspect that if you were to live in some place with triple digit heat, that setting the firearm in the sun for 15 mins would get you all the heat you need.
Best thing - when I come in from shooting, I simply wipe down the gun and feed ramp with a micro fibre cloth and call it good. If I had shot a lot, I include a pass or 3 with the bore snake. Job done.
I recommend FL.

Frog Lube???
Bought some last week. Looks like good stuff from what I've heard from other places and you can rest assured that chemicals won't mess with your body. Your guns might get dirty a tiny bit quicker but my guns probably like gettin dirty anyways. Glad to help a vet. Nothin better than good people gettin what they deserve.

+1 on Eezox. Been using Break Free CLP for years but Eezox is fantastic. Goes on wet, cures to a dry type lube and is great for my EDC and target pistolas. Above corrosion test link tells the rest of the story...

I took a couple of FrogLube treated guns to the range last week; an M&P 45 and a Ruger 10/22. Both ran fine. I ran 100 rounds of factory ball thru the 45. Although I really haven't disassembled either, I used a rag and a bore snake on the M&P before it went back into my holster. I didn't notice any of the aforementioned black crud baking onto the treated surfaces. In fact, the rails looked like they were still lubed. What I noted was that the feed ramp simply wiped off, where as before, I would have to soak with solvent and scrape off the carbon. While my testing was far from thorough, it was encouraging enough to plan on its continued use. I'm going to treat a couple of blued finish S&W .22 revolvers and see how they clean up.

I have a question for you guys. The book on Garand maintenance that I use (which my buddy who rebuilds Garands recommended) says to use Hoppes 9 every time after shooting to dissolve all of the copper out of the barrel. I run a few passes through with the brass brush and some patches with Hoppes until it's pretty clean, I run one last patch soaked with Hoppes through it, put a clean patch between the bolt and the chamber (to keep the stuff from leaking out) and let it sit overnight muzzle up. I get a bunch of green gunk out of it the next day, indicating a bunch of dissolved copper.
Anyway, my question for you guys is will FL in the barrel also keep the copper from building up during a trip to the range so that the Hoppes won't be necessary?
Thanks,
Mike

That was a question I asked my gun store when I bought mine. All he said was that it was supposed to work. The jury's still out on that, but I will keep this forum posted.

Hey guys, thanks for all the helpful input. I decided to give the Frog Lube a try. Although I love Ballistol & think its a great product, there were 2 reasons I switched to FL. (1). Smell. I live in Ohio & its cold this time of year. Cleaning my gun in my cold garage (due to smell) sucks. With frog lube there is very little smell. Actually smells great. Its nice cleaning my gun in my basement. (2). Frog Lube is made in the good old USA! All the ingredients (plant based) are grown right here in the USA ( : Have made 2 applications of FL to my fs m&p 9mm. Cant wait to get to the range
