Default Craziness...

So I'm checking listings for my state on one of the websites that allow advertising of firearms (and pretty much anything else). I find a jewel from time to time.

So today...I come across seller asking $1,000 for a Shield 9.

How about Kel-Tec Sub 2000s going for $1250? Insane. A $250 carbine for 5 times it's normal value. I have seen this on Gunbroker and can't believe it.

Because of potential pending gun legislation, the demand will only go up. S&W can't keep up with the demand for Shield as it is right now, so I would imagine the Shield shortage will continue for quite a bit longer.

I can understand the 10+ guns and mags selling out, but I am not sure why someone thinks that a Shield is something that will be banned and therefore can command a $1000 price tag. If anything, that is one of the few guns that will likely still be legal

Two weeks ago a local dealer told me that several months ago he received a letter from S&W stating tha their entire production for 2013 was already sold. A few weeks later he received a similar letter from Ruger,

There has been talk about other possible restrictions that aren't tied to mag capacity. One is banning online sales for ammunition, banning transfer of ownership from one private party to another, registering all guns, etc. This could motivate prospective purchasers to buy now rather than wait. None of these things may happen, but it puts prospective buyers into proactive thinking as we have already seen.

People are buying up everything and anything they can find now. I have enough guns to suit my needs, but never hurts to have more than enough. I am in the middle of building 2 AR's and am not sure how things are going to play out for me in the end with either of them, but I am not going to sit around and worry myself to death over it.

I hope u already have ur hands on the BCG for both of those. Because those things are one of the hardest things to get right now for a build. Its easier to get ur hands on a lower than it is the BCG right now.

In this case, im glad I already have my AR and AK's and a little over 10K rounds for each, lol

PS: I went to Cabellas the other day to stock up on bulk .40 and 9mm (since my Shield shoots both). Cabellas no longer sales either caliber in bulk due to the ammo crisis right now.

I went to Sportsmans Warehouse the other day just to check out the drama for myself. Everything semi automatic was gone except for one mini 14, and there was a line of people waiting to buy handguns because no one was buying shotguns or bolt action rifle of which the shelves were full ammo. Ammo, there was no .223 except some $29 a box hunting stuff? and of course there was no 22LR or 9mm, they did have some value packs of 45acp though. I suspect things will be worse in the coming weeks.

I checked my online favorites where I buy bulk ammo and both are sold out of everything. How can that be?

Well I guess before I say sold out of everything I should say I actually checked for 9mm and 45 in 500's and 1000 cases. I'm down to maybe 500 rounds of 9mm and a few hundred .45's. I have a lot of .40 so I didn't check that.

Now I'm nervous///

I went to the LGS and they had 2 seven round Shield9 magazines in their miscellaneous junk magazine cardboard box! Pick them up for $26 each. So now I've got a Shield9 with 5 magazines (3 seven rd. and 2 eight rd.). Glad I got mine when I did. But for the prices I've seen people begging for one I'd consider selling and then just placing an order for another. Everybody's got a price I guess. The Shield9 is a damn fine gun ad having 5 mags makes range visits so much more enjoyable. Hope a lot of u guys find a Shield under the tree cause if u don't it seems like they won't be in stock for a while.

Holy ****. I just check too after seeing your post. The online stores are cleaned out! Now u know how they are going to control firearms. If u can't feed your guns ammo u can't go shooting. Seeing this just now is causing me to reconsider buying a new gun. Why would I if I can't feed it? Glad I bought a 1000 rounds two weeks ago. Wait until we see the prices once ammo gets back in stock. Prices will be insane.

I think between Xmass and 12-21-2012 and the aftermath of what some think will be comming and the gun control issues that may be on there way, assault rifle ban or at least hi cap mag limits and the 200% ammo increase we been hearing about. people are grabbing what they can.. I picked up my AR a short time ago. Not thinking of all this craziness to come, just because I always wanted one. Lucky I picked up a few mags and a little ammo just under the line.. I even took some Federal .233 in place of the 5.56 NATO I had ordered. I fingered what the heck it still shoots.. and it was federal for $328 per 1000 rounds shipped when I got it on 12-20, have some green tip too and just a very small amount of 5.56 Nato in XM193 .. I'll keep what i have. I'm happy i have something! Nothing is for sale. I mean I would have to get offered crazy money before I would even think about selling anything but still don't think i would as i waited to long for what i have. I remember back in 1979 when the first ban hit and the AR's I always wanted went up to $289 for a clean used one I thought that was nuts and didn't buy one.. I payed a heck of a lot more then that for mine 10-13-2012 but that was still under the wire for the real pricing increases.. Hope things calm down and the nuts out there don't make anymore senseless moves in any state in the USA.. If not we are screwed!! IMO.. George

As I posted on another thred, I checked my favorite online private firearms listings site the day after the election and saw a seller offering a relatively standard M&P 15 for $1300. The gun may have had two or three mags come with it. That was before the tragedy. I looked at the sight again yesterday and saw the prices of AR lowers had doubled.

The AR prices I can sort of understand with all the uncertainty, but asking that much for a Shield is being opportunistic. Of course with S&W's sales up something like 48 percent as of last week, I can imagine that the demand will far outpace the supply for the time being.

I would strongly recommend to anyone reading to invest in a good gun safe before anything else. I don't know if there will be a substantial rise in the crime rate in the wake of the buying frenzy, but it would be prudent for anyone to have what their not carrying at the moment secured.

A lot of what you are seeing with retailers is that they are putting things back (i.e, weapons, ammo, mags) knowing that if they limit the amount available for purchase, the demand will drive the price even higher. Then I suspect they will magically find a shipment of items and absolutely reap huge profits on their inventory.

Maybe true of some retail shops but the sporting goods manger at our local Walmart says he places ammo orders weekly in the 20K range and he has only been getting in less the 1K a week from the distributors.

OMG! People are ignorant. I will admit I have been caught flat-footed by the recent unpleasantness. I don't have nearly enough EMAGS to hold me over if a ban goes into effect.

I have also been seeing the prices of rifles go stupid high. It never occurred to me that people would try to gouge on pocket pistols.

Damn. I hope the NRA get's a win on this. Nervous as hell right now.

...And once the dust all settles and not much of anything happens, prices will drop and people will be stuck with what they way over paid for. Then prices could drop even lower to get sales moving again.... go figure.

Yes, its always nice to have a few spare parts around, sorry, I just couldn't resist. Well lets go on, 9 out of 10 folks buying ARs probably couldn't fight em and keep em running any way, and all that buyin and panicking just gets the black helicopter an address to check out. I walked in to my LGS to put my AR on consignment and the gunshop owner says, why don't I just buy that from you, prolly went in his gun safe as it was a very early, fancy Rock River. I will miss it, but it was a National Match and old Billy couldn't see thru them little tiny peep holes. I'm hoping to pick up an old pre 27 or pre 29, and looking at a Browning Safari with a pencil barrel in 22-250 for my coyote gun. I've got a coupla boxes of ammo, I sold as well to send a 45LC down the road, and really guys if the boys in the black helo's come for you, your old lady won't have any better luck than Osama's Momma did, so lets relax and win this government back from the socialist liberals before its too late. Maybe some of you gents should spend some of that cash running for office, Old Billy will vote for ya! Besides whats between your ears and in your Heart scares them a lot more than stuff in your old gunsafe, not saying its not good to have hardware, but your old Daddies thuty thuty will likely see ya through! Merry Christmas Gentlemen, and keep praying, He is coming back ya know. Billy

I doubt a gun-ban will pass. I am honestly worried about a mag-limit law.

I'm with DMSC....been buying for a long time....I've got all I need (I don't require much) and I'm just shaking my head looking at all those extra firearms and ammo dollars going out the door to secure these over priced goodies.
