Does anyone carry a full size MP 9?
Hey. Just curious if anyone conceal carries a full size MP? If so what holster do you use?
I am hoping to sell a 639 and get some funds for the MP 9. I can't see the front sight on the 639 and the heavy frame is getting annoying.

Grimjaws:
Are you considering the M&P9FS for Law Enforcement (i.e., "uniform gun"), or just concealed carry?
I've not been in uniform (semi-retired rent-a-cop, among other things) since the 70's, but even the M39 was an improvement over the 6" M19 Combat Magnum I was carrying then. I had an M10HB for concealed carry (nobody cared about printing). The M&P9FS (I've got the 40FS) is roughly the same size & form factor as my old M10, or even the M19, if you ignore the extra 2" of barrel. Easy to shoot, and accurate enough.
The 40FS is a little snappy, but it'll do what you need.... The 40FS is essentially the same gun as the 9FS. With the same advantages. Personally, I'm not excited about the 9mm over the .40, but YMMV, and it's your choice. (The 9FS should shoot just like my old M10HB - the 9mm is a tad snappier, but overall handling should be exactly the same.)
If you're looking for concealed carry (as a licensee), the 9C or 40C may be better choices. Both will kill paper about as well as their full sized counterparts, but the Compacts are just easier to carry.
SOME shooters will do better with the longer barrels, and, of course, the larger guns have larger magazine capacities, but those may be the only advantages.
(I bought the M19 because the Military was taking about every 4" M19 that S&W could make at the time for Vietnam. The 4" M10 got to me a little later, and I grabbed it because I couldn't hit much with a snubby, and needed something for concealed carry that I could trust.)
I don't carry my full sized .40 much - I'm big enough to get away with it most of the time, but the 40C is just easier. I wear that around the house most of the time, with a spare magazine from the 40FS. If I have to reload, I'm going to be putting a lot of ammunition into the handle .... (They're interchangeable.) OR, if I did have the itch to carry the full size .40, the spare magazine on my belt fits....
("Outdoors", I rotate between a pair of Officer's-sized 1911's. Fewer rounds, but lasers and night sights. These were put together - at serious expense - before I got involved with the M&P's. The spare magazines are also a little easier to carry/conceal.)
The holster I use is a cheap "slide" type from DeSantis. It's got a top strap (thumb break), and an open bottom that allows me to use any of my M&P's in the same rig. This one has a slight forward rake, and rides fairly high. Can't think of the name, though.... I use essentially the same holster for the 1911's (although they're not interchangeable).
I think my 40FS came with a Kydex holster and maybe a mag carrier. Can't find the latter, and can't imagine buying the former (I hate Kydex ), but it's not too bad. From a concealment standpoint, considering the bigger than a breadbox gun, it's not bad, either.
(I had an XD9SC a while back that came with a Kydex holster. Unfortunately, it canted the gun out and away from your body, making concealment iffy. Not a bad rig if you're going to tuck a bomber jacket behind the holster, leaving the gun exposed, but otherwise downright silly. The mag carrier that came with it was just as bad....)
Guess my point, though, is go for it! Try one at a range if you can (actually, try both the full size and Compact, and the .40 if you can), and see if you like it.
Consider, too, the Apex DCAEK kit for your new gun. IMHO, a big help.
Regards,

My EDC weapon is a FullSize 9 M&P. I carry in a Crossbreed, and couldn't be happier. VERY comfortable, conceals under a t-shirt perfectly.

Are you happy with the Galco carrying the MP40 IWB? Does it work well for you?
Thanks, SD

I carry a .40FS all the time lately in a DeSantis Thumb Break Scabbard. It holds it high & tight just the way I prefer it to be. But like some of the others have stated, I'm a big boy so it blends in a little better than if I were skinny (No Chance there) or thin. (same thing LOL) But I will concur that with most people that the compact will be more stealthy. Good Luck. Later & Peace,

I CCW a full sized M&P 9 on occasion in the exact same rig, works perfectly, as does a Miami Classic under a sweatshirt.

I carry my FS 9 M&P everyday in a CTac Minotaur appendix carry holster, I think this same topic comes up every month or so. But again I am 6'2" and 218 so I can get away with it as well as I either wear jeans or tatical cargo pants daily with a untucked shirt.

I carry both the fs and the compact in a Crossbreed. The compact is more comfortable for me so it goes with me more often than the fs. Summer-always the 9c

I carry my M&P9 in 2 different holsters. During the winter I have a Don Hume H721 OT that is OWB. It conceals easily. For the warmer weather I just got a Lobo Gunleather IWB that I will use. That gun virtually disappears in that holster. The old term of "dressing around the gun" certainly works for me. It can be done a lot easier than you think it can.

Hi
Just bought a Full size 9 which I plan on carrying. BUT i am Having the Grip chopped down to accept 12 round magazines. This allows me to have the full size slide, barrel and longer sight radius of a full size 9. But the compact grip of a 9c, I will still be able to use the full size magazine. The work will be done by Business End customs and I will post pictures as soon as it is complete.
So i guess it's a full size in barrel and slide only

On occasion I use to own and carry a full size M&P 9. Sold it for a full size Walther P99. Check out Hawg Holsters. I prefer IWB so if that's what you're looking for it's what I use for my semi-auto guns.

Every day, AIWB in a Keepers Concealment
(Model: The Keeper Products – Keepers Concealment)
straight drop, w/foam wedge to help keep it canted inward. Clip is very robust, but my next one will likely have dual straps. Back side has a full sweat shield. I use a 1.5" nylon reinforced tactical belt with a Velcro hooked retainer for the tail, pulled tight. That locks over the loop piece on the clip, securing the holster in position even better.
The FS 9mm 5" threaded barrel is just right. It takes up all the room I have to give it in this position, yet it is not too big nor heavy on the good gun belt. Pants are about 1.5" oversize. Can't wear tight jeans. I carry a spare Taran Tactical extended 23-round mag IWB at 10 o'clock and a vertical fixed blade push dagger at 11 o'clock. I have a covering garment, fairly flat belly, 36" waist, 185 lb., 5' 11". Average sized guy, 67 yo.
This is doable with the right gear and commitment. It is not as hard as many people make it out to be. Once you are successful carrying a full size gun, going backwards inspires less confidence for me because I cannot shoot smaller guns as well as a full size. And I like the ammo capacity.

I use the Blackhawk serpa level 2 daily or The Alien Gear concealment holster.
The only complaint i have with my M&P9 is during CC is that the trigicon HD red dot pinch my love handles but thats all my fault, I love donuts.
On duty Blackhawk serpa level 3 excellent holster( jmo)

I occasionally carry my FS9 using a Safariland 6378. It's the only non-leather holster I have and it works great. You do need a cover garment of sorts but this holster stays snug to the body.
