M&P Shield 9mm OWB Holster

I recently acquired a Shield and am looking for a OWB holster for when I carry. Haven't had much luck finding something that suits me yet so I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions. I'm a little heavy so I'm looking for something comfortable that wont dig into my sides when I sit in the car or on a couch. Anyone have any suggestions for something under $75?

Jal5 01-11-2013 10:20 AM

Just got one from cabelas Bulldog manufacturer, belt slide type OWB nicely made. Around $30 if I remember right. Joe

M&P Shield 9mm OWB Holster

PJ Holster. The Shield is light and small enough that you don't need all the bells and whistles. Good price, short wait times, and effective design. It takes a fraction of a second to take it on and off but the clip is very sturdy, retention is very strong which I like only for OWB, and it adds virtually no weight.

I got a Destantis that I really like.

I too am in the hunt for an OWB carry for a shield. While I haven't made a final decision, I am leaning heavily toward the Lobo Enhanced Avenger.
Lobo Gun Leather - ENHANCED AVENGER STYLE
All are made to order. The base price fits your budget, but there are extra's that you may prefer.

I got a Desantis mini-scabbard in black when i got my shield right away at the shop. Its simple and it looks really nice too

I am looking for an IWB myself now. I got a whitehat maxtuk but I didn't care for it the first time I had it out... maybe needs more break in

XxLaloCuraxX 01-12-2013 11:36 PM

I like the Desantis holsters but no luck finding any place that have the, in stock. Been looking at the PJHolster and I think I'll give them a shot. I like the fact that they're so thin and light. Now I need to figure out if I want any cant on the holster since when I carry I plan on moving it to the 4 o'clock position a little further behind my hip...

timn8er 01-12-2013 11:50 PM

Have you considered pocket carry? Desantis makes a nice one for
not much, its what I use for my 40c. I recently picked up a couple
of belt slide holsters by Don Hume on ebay, they were very reasonable
& the delivery was 2 or three days. They are very comfortable.

I'm a husky guy so my pants are already too tight on me :) anything I put in my pockets is going to be outlined and will just be uncomfortable. I'm good wearing it on the wait and ust putting a larger shirt on to cover it.

The Don Hume holsters look good as well, but I decided to give the PJHolster a try. I'll get it ordered and will post pics when I get it, maybe even a youtube review.

Thanks to all that helped. Perhaps this info will help others that are in my situation as well.

Try this one...

I know this is an older thread but go take a look at Working Dog Holsters

One of my coworkers makes custom IWB holsters. Very nice stuff at a good price point. You won't be disappointed with his product. Even if you don't need a holster now, please keep him in mind the next time you are in need of one.

Thanks!

I really like the Desantis mini scabbard.
I have one each for my LC9, M&p 9c, and shield.

I also use Desantis mini-scabbard for OWB for my Shield

BibleDavid 08-08-2013 04:03 PM

Have you checked out Winthrop Holsters? I just got a wonderful pancake holster from them for my M&P Shield and enjoy it.

The Desantis mini-scabbard is excellent. So is Fist Holsters OWB pancake. Have both--- recommend both.

Check out Raven Concealment Phantom holsters, and G-Code Incog Holsters. I use the Phantom with my M&P9c, I'm heavy in the waist and this holster carries secure with no bulge or digging art 2 and 3oclock. Best Holsters made in my opinion. Kydex 100%, life time warranty.

MX5Fan 08-08-2013 09:20 PM

I'm extremely happy with my JM Custom Kydex OWB holster. Everybody has an opinion regarding holsters, as it's such a personal thing. My 2 cents worth is Tony makes a terrific fitting holster. It fits close, tight to t
The body and light weight with an adjustable tension screw. Just a great holster, all around.

Check out JM Custom Kydex....no affiliation.

Maybe i missed something but why would you or anyone opt out for a holster that is for a different pistol altogether when Fobus makes one just for the Shield. Try going to there web-site,>

Fobus Holster: S&W M&P Shield - EVOLUTION PADDLE HOLSTER

S&W M&P Shield - EVOLUTION PADDLE HOLSTER. I found this simply by looking in a Goggle search, > (Fobus paddle holster for the Smith & Wesson Shield.) And the site came right up wth it. What more can i say. If your looking for a reasonably priced holster and one that will not be affected by weather conditions/Humidity/perspiration etc. it's a very logical decision!

Shield OWB Holsters

I have the Desantis mini-scabbard as well as the OWB custom kydex from PJ Holster. Both are good holsters, but I prefer the one from PJ. It's lighter, thinner, prints less, easy on and off, and is very secure. I also have a custom kydex IWB holster from PJ that I also like very much.

Maybe he already had the holster for a prior gun. If it works well why spend more money

They also make one specifically for the shield. I have one for my Sig Sauer 9mm. Fits and holds the pistol firmly.

lowrider1 08-09-2013 06:32 PM

I have a Shield .40. I picked up a Praetor Defense Holster, designed specifically for the Shield. It was only available by mail order online. Costs around $50.00. Fits nice and tight to the body, not even noticeable wearing a Tshirt. Check it out, I don't think you'll be disappointed!

Crossfire Elite Panther

This one is designed primarily for security by maintaining a firm grip on the Shield during ATV riding or other jostling activity.

I was going to buy one and almost commited. but then I looked closer and it said PPS on it, meaning its the same one. So, I found a cheaper one on Amazon, because the seller only specified it was for one pistol. :)

Yes a very high quality & style full Kydex holster. The builder is on You Tube, watch a few shorts. you can PM him on YT or email him at [email protected] . You will talk with AC to help you pick out style and color combinations. Usually takes a week to 10 days, you will be very happy!

Shield conceal holster

Purchased the Shield and the search was on for the perfect conceal holster. By far the best I found after months of research and going to every gun show, gun shop I could find is a company called K rounds. OWB tight fit to the body, you forget its on. It is the design, they placed the belt loops recessed back in the kydex to hold the holster close. Adjustable tension and just a company that actually took the time to design. Check out the website;
krounds.com I am in and out of my truck all day and does not pinch my side. I hope this helps someone.

OWB Shield Holster Recommendation

I recommend you look at the Wright Leatherworks Predator pancake holster, priced at $75.00. I carry my Shield in this holster, and find it very comfortable.
I’m carrying a bit more weight than I need, and found moving the holster back from my hip makes for easy pistol access and comfortable carry.

Horn 06-12-2014 12:58 AM

Difficult to beat from Comp-Tac their Minotaur Gladiator OWB holster
for comfort. I use it for winter wear here in southern Arizona (T-shirt and
a light cover. Pricey at ninety bucks ( LE discount available) but worth it.
I also use their IWB Neutral Carry holster. On the last you can switch out
the kydex shells for other pistols.

I agree this is a great little holster. I got one for my Glock 26 and 19 also.

Yesterday, I bought a black Bulldog belt-slide (medium) for $22 at our LGS. It holds my 9mm Shield securely and tight at 3 o'clock. No printing even with the 8-round mag.

I have a cobra Hybrid on the way from them (if it ever gets here) that allows for similar OWB carry and optional IWB carry (clip or loop). Hopefully it will provide the best of both worlds. I just wish the manufacturing and lead time wasn't so long.

For now, I use a BlackHawk Serpa with a U-Mod clip for OWB and a Little Fox for IWB. They both work extremely well.

gearup 09-30-2014 10:56 PM

I second the K Rounds holster. It is far and away the best pancake holster I have ever seen. Super design and the tightest fit to the body of any holster out there. Melts away under a shirt. I getting one for my XD9 as well, and maybe some mag holders to boot.

dgyver 10-01-2014 12:06 PM

I have a Blue Ridge Holster Discrete EDC. Fits great, contours close to the body and I do not know it is there. Took a couple of weeks to have it delivered, faster than most. Reasonably priced too.... $61

I plan to wear an OWB holster with my 9mm Shield. Concealed. Really want a paddle-style if I can find one that feels secure enough. I like the quick on-off a paddle gives me. I plan to use the holster under a shirt worn outside the pants.

The DeSantis model in the photo looks good to me. However, it also looks like it might carry the pistol high above the belt so that the grip would "flop out" a bit at the top, thus printing more than the holsters that carry the pistol more below the belt line. What's been your experience?

My DeSantis holds the grip very close.
I have tried and have a couple paddle holsters (Fobus) they are very convenient, but they don't hold the gun very close.

papersniper 10-05-2014 09:22 AM

Thanks for that info. I will try to find one to try it out.

Dano 10-05-2014 07:51 PM

I have several holsters for my 2 Shields but my favorite by far
is my Alabama Holster Pancake. Like it so much I ordered a
IWB holster from them too.
