Default M&P Pro Series 9mm slide moves forward when trigger breaks

Hello guys,
New guy here. Been lurking for a time. Finally joined up.

Bought myself a Pro Series 5" 9mm. Sweet, except that I noticed that when I dry fire, the slide moves forward just a hair each and every time the trigger breaks. On my Shield 40 the slide does not budge. It's hard to pratice my trigger press when the slide itself moves. Does anyone else's slide move forward when the trigger breaks? It shouldn't do that right?

Mine does not move. Is that a problem? I don't know, I would call S&W and see what they say.

Would it be possible to post a video of the slide moving?

I cannot think of a way the slide would move forward. It should not be possible, assuming the slide is fully in battery. The barrel face should be in the way. My only thought is that you can feel the momentum of the striker but, having the same gun, I do not see that as being perceived as the gun moving.

+1. Not sure how it moves either.

I cannot remember where I read it, but I believe it's normal due to the striker spring pulling against the recoil spring when the trigger is pulled.

As the trigger breaks, the sear rotates down, and in the process pushes the striker back slightly, when it does this, the striker spring pulls against the recoil spring. Striker spring is pushing to rear of slide, recoil spring, towards muzzle.

The amount of movement here is miniscule.

I just got an M&P 9m with 4.25 barrel last week, which I have dry fired several hundred times already. After reading this post this morning I stood in front of a sunlit window and dry fired a dozen times trying to see movement.

Nope, no movement there at all.

Do you have an empty mag in it?

Is the barrel hood flush with the top of the slide?

Have you cleaned a lubed it?

Do not ride the slide forward when racking or at least ensure you push the slide fully forward.

Post a pic of the muzzle and the hood before and after.

I cycle the slide, push hard against the back of the slide to make sure it's in battery then turn the gun over on its side so I can watch the slide. Looking at the rear of the slide in this position it moves slightly forward just as the trigger breaks. I've tried it with and without an empty mag; same result. I will call S&W on Monday to see what they say. I'm puzzeled because my Shield doesn't do it and none of my Glocks do it. I'll see if I can take some pictures and try to post them.

No movement, other than the TV when the round hit

Seriously, no movement and on my 9Pro!

Zero forward movement when the trigger is pulled and striker is released with either a mag in or out on both a Pro 9L, and CORE ported 9L.

good luck

Both my 9 Pro and 9 FS do the same thing. The movement is barely perceivable by eye, but you can feel it if, for example, you rest a thumb along both the slide and frame. I've been told this is normal.

Ok, thanks for letting me know that. Mine may be extreme, because it is easily perceivable by eye. It moves slightly forward and stays there, not like an impact and rebound kind of thing one might expect from striker impact. Hmmm! At any rate, I'm becoming less concerned about it but I will still call S&W on Monday. Thanks again.

Too add to my post above, it was on the enos forum that I read it, and it's a common occurrence. Especially among those that run lighter recoil springs.

I have a 9mm and a 40 Pro and a 9mm CORE and see no movement. I even swapped slides between frames in a few combinations to see if that made any difference. Nothing.

you have to be looking at it from the side, and it's very small.

It happens.

It's the pressure of the tensioned striker spring, pulling against the tension of the recoil spring.

I was looking from the side. Not even small movement.
Not saying it won't, can't doesn't.
The M&P is unlike Glock in that the M&P striker fully cocks on cycle and all the trigger does is release it. You would seem to infer that the tension of the striker spring is pulling the slide out of battery ever so slightly and I have never ever seen any indication of that.

There are quiet a few posts on various forums about it. Especially the brian enos forum and M&P forum.

In the research I've done in the last few days since this thread, it appears the XD's and glocks do the same thing.

Whether or not this is bad? I don't know, I'll leave that up to S&W to answer if OP calls them.

I just know both my pistols do it, and I haven't had any accuracy, reliability, or out of battery issues.

-edit-

And it appears to happen on the new sig striker fired pistols as well.

I'm putting this into google to find these threads..."slide moves while dry firing"
