Default Soon to have my first polymer S&W

It has been a long road to get here.

I won the gun, a S&W MP40 in Albuquerque in September, actually only the certificate for the gun was what I picked off the table. I was able to redeem the certificate directly to the S&W distributor the next week along with a copy of my receiving shop's FFL. My part done I was waiting patiently.

About a month after redeeming the certificate I emailed the distributor to see if there had been any word from the factory on shipment but due to the demand for guns before the election my guns wasn't at the top of the list. S&W apparently wasn't in M&P production at the time and I had to be patient. I am as patient as a rock but the recent calls for new gun laws prompted me to email the distributor last week with a polite inquiry.

The response the next morning was a little shocking, the gun had shipped at the end of November and was received by my shop and provided me the serial number. A couple of balls got dropped along the way with no email from the distributor saying it would be shipping (so I could let me shop know to look for it) and secondly from my shop, in that they never contacted me that it had arrived. Now, I had some thoughts rolling in my head, mainly the fear that my gun had shipped as part of a regular shipment and that my gun was booked in a one destined for sale and subsequently sold.

I called my shop as soon as they opened that morning. Much to my relief they informed me that my gun was there, still in its shipping box, unopened. I made it to the shop that evening before they closed and completed the paperwork to start my 10 day wait. Heck, I've been waiting months as it is!

I did spend a long time checking it out and it looks/feels like it will be a good gun. I plan on trying it out with all three inserts even though I believe the large will be the one I settle on (I have the large insert on my P2000).

I'm glad I emailed the distributor again because I have no idea how long it would have just lounged around in my shop's safe before anyone bothered to contact me. Heck, I've been in the shop several times since the gun arrived and no one said anything, although each time I was in there it was an absolute madhouse of activity. They did tell me things have started slowing down a little but that was mostly due to the fact they are almost of of guns to sell. Seems most of the dealers are waiting on shipments of guns to restock the sales counters.

Congratulations!

That pistol sure came with a story attached to -- I'm glad that the connection has finally been made. I own a Full Size .40 M&P (as well as a Shield .40) and I really like it! Get some snap caps and dry fire it a few hundred times -- seriously, it'll smooth out the trigger "grittiness" -- or do it the fast way, with some Apex parts or a DIY "Burwell" polishing job. Or the old-fashioned way (pretty expensive these days) with a case of ammunition downrange.

I've dry fired my M&P .40FS about 250 times and it's trigger is as smooth as a babies butt. I was originally going to do the APEX trigger job but now I'm not sure. Other than the distance the trigger travels and resets it's great now. Later,
