Question for 40 Shield owners who have the 9mm barrel as well
Where the heck are you getting the S&W 9mm Shield barrel from? Maybe I'm looking or searching wrong but I'm not finding 9mm Shield barrels anywhere
I'm thinking of getting a Shield in 40 and doing the conversion but not if I can't get a 9mm barrel for it
Thanks

Yeah, be patient -- they'll be back and they're outstanding people to deal with. Unless they've changed it due to the high volume of requests, you could reach Ted or Judith through [email protected] . (That's "llc" llama-llama-charlie, on the end of gunsandgear) Phone: (417)786-0100 Fax: (413)486-0213 Judith or Ted Szczygiel

+1, and thanks Bob. I've been wanting one too, and sent an email myself.
Funny, I suggested to my LGS a couple months ago that there was a market here if they could get the 9mm barrels and that I would post their information here on the site as a source of barrels. He said he'd try to find some, but nothing ever came of it, so Guns and Gear it is!

Glad to see you guys coming join us with the conversions. It seems everyone has pointed u in the right direction. They have supplied all of us with our 9mm barrels and 9mm mags. Last week or week before, someone stated that they were out of barrels but had some on order. I dont think it was stated when the order would be delivered to GunsandGear though......As far as we know, this is the only place to acquire the barrels from.
Simplest conversion money could ever buy.

Let's see if they return our emails. I would hope they would but the way things have been lately it seems not much time for gun store owners to have a minute to themselves lol
I'm going to be out near Agawam this weekend and will probably stop in there to check the place out
More and more I read, the 40 does seem the way to go......no ill effects with having a little extra room where the barrel meets the breech face?

I'm gonna ask a dumb question. But here goes anyway. I have heard of the 9mm barrel used for the conversion on the 40. (Shield and or Compact) How about the Full Size M&P 40, is there a 9mm conversion for that as well. Sorry for not knowing...

Smitty, correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought I read that you can use the Shield 40 mag with the 9mm rounds and barrel, with no problem.
Just thinkin': wouldn't it be cool if S&W came out with a .357 Sig barrel for the Shields (a .357 Sig Shield too) also? More expensive to shoot, but those .357 rounds are hot! Fire in the hole!

That is correct, u can use the 40 mags for the 9mm if u wish. However, a few of us have had minor issues doing it this way. Sometimes the 40mag tends to fail to feed the last few bullets of 9mm. Not all the time does this happen, but it does happen from time to time. Mostly its on the last bullet, but ive had it happen on the last 2 at least.....A 9mm mag for 9mm bullets solves this problem. And it's not that much extra money for the mag either. Me personally i just went ahead and got a 9mm mag to fix the problem. Ever since, i havent had a single problem with it.
I believe I have personally been testing the 9mm into .40 option for several months longer than others. Just because I actually have both a .40 and a .9mm, so my options have allowed me a little longer testing........The above is the only problem i've ever had occur with the conversion.
Yeah .357 would be nice, but im thinking .45 ACP in a Shield would be sexier, IMO lol

Unfortunately, doesn't work in reverse, from what I have read on this Forum. Good question, though.

And you rock, Smitty, in the Shield community! Thanks for what you've been doing!
' Course there's been speculation on the Forum about whether S&W would offer the .45 ACP option, especially since our friends over at Springfield have the XD subcompact in that caliber, but from what I gather, it's not likely on the frame that the Shield is built on. On the other hand, .357 might be more doable, assuming the recoil from the hotter-than-40 caliber .357 Sig load could be handled by the Shield. Ammo capacity should be the same as for the 40 cal, so it might be a great option given the popularity of the Shield and the potential for magazine capacity restrictions in some states in the future.
Check out hickok45's video of shooting the .357 sig in a full-size semi-auto platform manufactured by he-who-must-not-be-named-on-this-forum. The necked-down 40 round that is the .357 Sig is a real stopper, based on the experience of LE agencies that have adopted it -- including our own North Carolina Highway Patrol. Except for the additional cost of the rounds, and the muzzle flash and loudness at the range that might disturb fellow shooters, I know I for one would give the .357 Sig a hard look as my CC weapon...
Anybody care to throw in on that, or should we start another thread? Not trying to hijack this one here....
