Default My M&P9 shoots low

Put the first 2 mags of WWB 115grn ammo through my new M&P9 and it grouped about a 6" circle about 6" low of the POA at 15 yards. Does S&W offer higher rear sights for these??

What is your aim point? S&W states all the M&P line is sighted at 7 yards, using sight image #2.

Two ways to fix, as you seem to know. Either lower the front or raise the rear. You will likely have to look to aftermarket sights for that. Have you shot it using a fixed rest or sandbag. It is easy to be causing a slight pull/flinch and throw off the POI, even if your other guns seem to shoot where you aim. Could try contacting S&W to see if there is anything they can do.

That's interesting, Bob. Everybody (OK, quite a few) on the M&P Forum state that the M&P line uses sight image #3. I'm no expert but that's what mine use. They're supposedly set for (at least with 9mm) 124gr @ 25yds. 115gr will hit low and 147gr will hit high.

I wouldn't get too excited about your low groups...yet. Many shooters have similar problems when shooting their new pistols. Give yourself some dry firing practice and a few hundred rounds of live fire.

Dry firing usually shows what your doing especially if you put a dot of tape on the wall to practice on. After pulling the trigger note where the front of your barrel is.

Once your finger gets used to the trigger through practice your groups will likely end up where you are aiming. Having said all of this it may well be your sight picture.

Your best bet is to shoot with your wrists rested, with the ammo of your choice, and settle on which sight picture works best for you. But give it some time to settle down.

Robkarrob's question, "Have you shot it using a fixed rest or sandbag", is important. Off-hand shots are affected by all the "bad habits" shooters develop. A stable rest for the gun will reduce some of the gun's unitended movement.

Mine is set for hold 3.

Have a friend load a mag with a couple snap caps or dummy rounds. You'll know right away of its hitting low from a flinch or poor trigger control

Trigger anticipation?

You have to adjust your technique as you get closer/ further from the target.

At work, we shoot everything from 1 yard to 25 yards. You have to visualize bore centerline vs sight centerline. They are not parralel.

Called S&W again today and got another CSR. This one told me the sights are aligned for 10 yards and use site image #3. So I have talked to two different CRS and got two different answers.

I tend to shoot low and left with my 9c. But I also have a tendency to push with my shots. I don't know if that's what you're experiencing. I tries using sight 2 and 3 today at the range and 3 seemed to work better at 10 yards.

Just got this email response from S&W. Sounds like site picture @2 at ten yards.

Bob

Hi, it is sighted at ten yards with the front sight at equal height with the rear and equal spacing on each side.

Thank You

Sort of sounds like the CSR's just pick one out of the air. It would be nice to get something in writing from someone a bit higher up the food chain

In reality it probably doesn't matter as the firearm is not designed as a target pistol and as along as you can hit COM @ 7-10 yards either sight picture should probably work.

Three CRS's and two different Factory sight versions. I asked if I could speak to an engineer or designer and of course their answer was that they do not take calls from the general public.

My wife and I were just at the range. My wife was consistently shooting low (centered) with a full size 9mm. She was using sight image #2. When using sight image #2 on my 40c, @ ~5-7 yards I'm dead on. When trying her 9mm and SI #2, dead on target too.

I need to work with her grip/trigger pull to keep the muzzle up.
