Default Problem with M&P Shield trigger....any ideas on solution?

I have a relatively new M&P 9 Shield with about 300-400 fired rounds through it. Everything has been working fine, but last trip to the range, started having a problem. First round in magazine chambers Ok, but trigger pull will not fire the round. Trigger does move its full travel length. If the safety is flipped on, then off, trigger pull fires the round. The remainer of rounds in the magazine fire normally with each trigger pull. This occurred each time a new loaded magazine was inserted in the gun. When I returned home from the range, I tried same firing sequence using 9mm snap caps. Each time the first round was chambered; the trigger pulled normally and "fired" the snap cap. Any ideas what might be causing the problem?

Sounds like it is time to call S&W for an RA number, they will make it good for you. Sorry you are having issues with your shield.

Thanks.....I thought that was going to be the "solution" but was hoping there might be an easy answer out there somewhere.

I have a similar problem with the .40... however it is not related to the round. Basically, if I apply pressure on the extended magazine base, it will cause a FTF. It happens even when I dryfire.

Basically, the trigger pulls, but the striker does not fire, if I release pressure on the magazine and pull the trigger again, I can hear the striker fire.

I emailed S&W but I didnt get any kind of reply, I guess I will have to give them a call.

Make sure you're not riding the slide on the first round. Sounds like it might be slightly out of battery. When you pull the trigger on the first round, does the striker release?
