Default Shield9 and Range Report

As I said on another post I picked up my shield today and here is a picture of it. I will be going to the range soon and will give a report.

So my trip to the range went okay. All the typical problems probably happened to me.

On the first shot the white of the front sight came out. You can see it here:

Also, I did have a stove pipe or FTE at around 150 (which from the forum seems somewhat normal). And I had a misfire around round 100 (on the Hertzer ammo). I looked it saw that the primer had been striked, but no fire. It was not a light primer strike either. But just to see I put it back in and it fired off.

Now to stipulate, I am pretty new to pistols and I could tell today as I was shooting I was jerking a bit. The trigger distance was shorter than what I am used to so as I was practicing drawing I continually didn't have my finger placement correct. You can see that as the center of my shots are low and sometimes to the left. Overall I like the Shield, I think it will work great. I like the trigger. I just need more practice and everything will be fine. My shooting in the pictures was about 1 round per second, standing with no rest. After the first round knocked out my front sight, I continued and got 300 rounds in with my black front sight. But I can definitely tell now that the grittiness that I was feeling pre-firing is gone.

Here are some pictures using PMC ammo (115gr). These are the first pictures which represent the very first shots taken from the gun starting with 15 rounds at 3 yds:

30 rounds at 7 yds:

15 rds at 10 yds:

Here's 15 rounds at 7 yds with Hertzer's ammo (115gr):

After I took all the pictures, I started getting a little better and focused on finger placement on the trigger and not pulling so hard (jerking). Now I need to get some fingernail polish and next month I can purchase my new sights (XS Big Dots).

If you want me to continue with range reports and pics let me know and I will.

PHpistols

I replaced my stock Shield sights with XS Big Dots.

After a few range trips at 7 yards I can now group 7 rounds in 1 1/2 inches.

Don't get discourage if your first Range trip with Big Dots is all over the target. The sights take getting use to but when you get the hang of the lollipop sights they will deliver dead on at lightning fast target acquisition.

Trigger control in my opinion is key to tight groups.

Love my Shield. It has Ameriglo Pro I-Dot front night sight with Ameriglo single rear night sight. Love the way it shoots. Very tight groupings at 7-10 yards.

Default Shield9 and Range Report

Nice report. Good to hear the grittiness has subsided.

I was in my LGS tonight to buy a jag and asked about Shields. Got my name on the waiting list.

I just got my FS M&P 9 and I love it. I got to fire 2 rounds out of a Shield a couple of days ago and loved it as much

Called up S&W about the sight. I asked instead of sending me a new sight if they could send me some extractor pins instead (since I have a love of completely disassembling and cleaning everything). They are sending me some now.

Not that anyone cares, but I got in today 2 extra 8 round mags from Natchez SS. They were 29.99$ a piece. Waiting for February to make some more purchases. My holster should ship within a few days and I need to buy some mag pouches.

Update: I order my XS big dot sights, got my holster, and ordered a mag pouch.

Went to the range tonight with the wife (date night) and shot 150 rounds through it of the PMC from above. No problems. I actually had my first FTE on my Glock 22 that I was shooting tonight. I have shot well over 1500 rounds with it, and that is the first time. I was shooting UMC and these were steel cased federals. But I guess that's not too bad for the ole Glock to go that long without a malfunction.

My wife shot the Shield mostly tonight, probably 100 rounds of the 150. She has never shot a pistol before and she did really well. All in the black but about 5 rounds. Not bad better than what I did being self-taught.

Only problem is now, I am out of 9mm ammo. No where to buy or at least nothing that I can afford right now.
