Default Tactile Reset wtih Thumb Safety M&P

I've got an M&P 9C on which I installed a DCAEK duty/carry kit. After installing the D/C kit and a little polishing I've wound up
with a great 4# trigger. Function has been flawless. However the reset is vague to say the least. I have the thumb safety
version and would really like to get a "good" tactile reset feel
to the trigger. The Apex Ram is not applicable with the thumb safety version of the M&P, so that isn't an option Any help/ideas from you knowledgeable guys would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

The tactile "snap" is caused by the sear loop moving from out of reset, to reset under the sear. It moves into reset fast, so it transmits the snap/jump into the trigger, which can be felt (tactile). One way to get it is to be change is the pressure on the trigger bar, to force the snap into reset. My thought is a stronger trigger spring, which would force the trigger bar to move faster. But a stronger trigger spring will all make the trigger pull firmer. Or I have seen posts where some have slightly bent the trigger bar, in a way that caused the faster reset (snap). Careful with bending the trigger bar too far, as it is tempered and could break. You can buy the trigger bars as part of the trigger assembly from places like Brownells and Midway.

I checked my Shield 40 and FS 9 trigger bar. The Shields have the better designed trigger action that S&W is going to incorporate into all the M&P handguns. The Shield's trigger bar exerts more side pressure on the sear than the FS. If you remove the slide and put your finger into the mag well and push the trigger bar outward, towards the frame, it is harder to push the Shield's trigger bar out, than to push the FS trigger bar out. The Shield's trigger bar exerts higher pressure pushing inward, especially towards the rear/sear loop area. When the Shield reaches reset, the sear loop snaps harder, under the sear.

Bob, I put the new heavier spring in my M&P 9c (I hadn't changed the trigger spring when I put the DCAEK kit in). As long as I had it apart I did attempt to influence the "bend" in the trigger bar, but
it was tough to gauge and probably didn't effect much of a change, if any. Put it back together and there was considerably more resistance to pushing the trigger bar to the side of the frame than it
had been with the old spring. The reset is not as "Tactile" as I would like, but very noticeably better
than it was. Trigger pull changed from 4# to 5#, which is fine. I'm a happy guy.
Thanks again...................Mark

The 9mm to 40 is doable. The barrels are exactly the same except for the bore diameter and the tang/tab width. It only requires removing about .013 inch from each side of the 40 barrel's tang/tab, at the site hole. I have a 6 inch bench grinder and all I would do is:

Measure the width of the 9mm tang.
My guess is the 40 tang would be .026 inch wider.
Using the side of the grinding wheel, grind .013 off one side.
Grind the remaining .013 off the other side.
The 40 barrel should drop into the 9mm slide.
Install recoil spring and slide.
Load up a 40 magazine.
Start shooting, in a safe location.

You can buy inexpensive calipers or micrometers for measuring.

Any other question just PM me.

Bob
