M&P 22 preferred ammo
I'm wondering what kinds of .22lr ammo you are using successfully in your M&P 22. Mine LOVES Remington Golden Bullet. ( Remington® .22LR Golden® Bullet | Bass Pro Shops)
Hates Winchester in 555 round box.
What gives you good results? A link would be good.

Most anything with a velocity rated above 1200FPS. I try to buy CCI Blazer value packs for the best bang for the buck.

I have been shooting Federal 36gr copper plated HP. 1260 stated MV. Not one single malfunction in 200 or so rounds.

I am having trouble even finding any .22LR. I have called every shop in town (VA) have everyone says they are sold out. I did find find a bulk box of CCI though once 1075 fps 40grain. They seemed to cycle jut fine I had a couple feed failures though in ~400 rounds shot.
I like this thread where people can post there opinions on the ammo they used

Mine also works well with Remington Golden. Also like the CCI Blazer. Had a fair amount of failures with the Federal Champion copper plated bulk, but it's been awhile, so may work better now that the gun is broken in. I'm getting some bulk Federal Target, so will see how that does.

I took my wife's gun out today for it's first outing. I used a wide variety of bullets. The gun seemed to dislike the exposed lead bullets and like the copper plated. It was only the first 200 rounds though, the gun may warm up to the exposed lead after being broken in.

I have mentioned before in other threads, but the Federal bulk packs of either 525 or 550 work well in mine. I do believe they would be the same 36 grain bullets that others in this thread have mentioned. Thousands of rounds ran through it and only a few FTF and FTEs.

Mini-Mag and Remington Golden work fine, but the Federal Champion is weaker and sometimes short cycles my slide. Ejects but sometimes won't go back far enough to pick up a new round and closes on an empty chamber.

Are these the mini mags you're talking about?

When I first bought the M&P22, I started with a box of the Winchester 525 packs of 36 gr ammo. These seemed to work OK with very few problems. Out of the 525, I had very few FTE or FTF problems. That didn't seem too bad, so I bought a 2,100-round bulk pack of the same. This batch is not going too well...I'm still on the first 525 box of this batch, and I'm getting anywhere from 1-3 FTE/FTF's in a 12-round magazine. I have 5 of these magazines, and it seems rare that I go through at least one magazine without any FTE or FTF problems. I'd sell what I have of the Winchester remaining, but there just isn't any .22LR anywhere to replace it with. I did pick up two packs of CCI 40 gr mini-mags at a gun show yesterday, but that was the limit...by the time I went back to try and get two more, they were all gone.

My M&P 22 shoots anything with a round nose bullet, but CCI ammo is the cream of the crop.

CCI are by far the best. But after being broken in,mine eats everything and the Federal 550 work great. I do stay away from exposed lead.

Re: M&P 22 preferred ammo
I have used Federal 550 bulk, Remington Thunderbolt, and Winchester SuperX. They all fed and ejected fine. I did have a couple of the Winchester's fail to fire, but that was ****** ammo not the gun.

I have only been able to find 2 types of ammo. Mine does NOT like the federal premiums 40grain 1085 FPS. At least 4-6 FTE/FTF in a 12round mag. But on the other hand the Standard Velocity 1075 FPS CCI's 40grain is much much better. Maybe 1 FTE/FTF in a 12round mag. I'm interested in hearing what everyone else is using. Range I use has high velocity ammo for sale I will most likely try a box of that next time I go.

Re: M&P 22 preferred ammo
I shot about 250 rounds of Rem Golden this past weekend with not a single issue. I was able to buy 1050 rounds the other day for about $35.

Have not yet had any FTF or FTE using CCI std 1070 FPS 40 grain LRN or Blazers.
Local range just got in Federals when we were leaving. I asked the guy how much they were charging and he smugly said "$9.00 bx or $90 for a 500 round brick". By the time you add state and local taxes that would be almost $100/Brick.
If he would have been reasonable we would have bought a couple bricks and probably been back to the range already. He lost our rental fees and trust me - they were not that busy when we were there. I find it hard to believe that anyone with any common sense would pay that kind of money for Federal rim fire .22. But like PT Barnum said there a sucker born every second.

I was at a local gun show a week ago and what little 22LR ammo was for sale was selling for $20 a 100 for CCI and $15 dollars a 100 for the other brands. The thing is it was selling at those prices. I just got a M&P 22 and I hope to take it to the range this week and I will try to shoot several brands to see what it likes. I have a good supply of 22LR ammo as I always shoot a lot of it so I tended to keep a lot on hand before this hit. I shoot a lot of 22LR in my S&W revolvers, a S&W Model 41, and now the M&P 22. I also have a S&W 15-22 to to feed and it's new also so I will zero it in when I go to ahoot the M&P 22.

M&P diet preferences
I've had real good luck with the Federal value pack (375) ammo, 36 grain HP high velocity (1260 fps stated velocity).
Aguila 40g standard velocity (box says .22 Aguila SuperExtra) also works well.
My experience with Winchester white box is that it would jam a single-shot bolt action. I'm pretty well satisfied that Winchester is light loading them to save a few pennies on powder. Hopefully they'll read my post and repent their evil ways.
Hope this helps.

I had the same issue the the WWB for about the first 50-75 rds. They are seriously dirty gummed up. I cleaned my .22 real good and have ran another 300 rds through it without a single issue.

Best accuracy and function-CCI Standard and Fed Gold Match. Only really bad ammo has been some Aguila HV - many FTF's; and Wolf Match Target, which doesn't cycle the slide reliably.

CCI mini-mags for mine, but will continue to seek less expensive am. I could not get it to cycle and eject the Federal Value pack (figures, because I just found a good deal on 5,000 rounds). The gun only has 330 rounds through it so I suspect the issue with Federal will disappear once broken in a little. It seemed the Fed cases were a little on the waxy side with the lot I received. Not waxy enough to notice had it shot well, though.

I have ran only CCI Mini Mags through my M&P 22 and it has ran flawlessly. I have seen on here were others have tried just about every kind of ammo in the gun with all kinds of results. I have a pretty good supply of the CCI Mini Mags so I think I will continue using them. 22 LR ammo is quite hard to find right now so if you can find any you better get it.

Federal and CCI copper plated HP bulk packs for me. I try to avoid other brands, if possible. I have some Federal lead nose solids which it didn't like.

Mine also HATE the Winchester bulk lead bullets. Mine fires the Remington gold hollow points no problem and LOVE the CCI tacticles. About to find out in a couple hours how it feels about the CCI blazers.. I hope it's good because I just scored a new 500 round box. I'll let you know.

Hi everyone, litle question from the Netherlands
Mine is ordered (still waiting for the fire arm permission, takes about 8 weeks here...) and I was wondering if the CCI stinger would be ok? Is there a max for this gun?
Tx in advance,
Tarkan

Re: M&P 22 preferred ammo
I have probably 1000 rounds through my new M&P22 since October. I like the gun and after playing with the sights believe it to be accurate. Here are my ammo results:
Rem Thunderbolt - excellent no problems
Other Rem also work well
CCI - excellent as well
Federal/Amer Eagle - bust FTE a lot
Win - a lot of FTE
That's all I've used. I like the Thunder because they work well and are cheap

When I first got my M&P22 I took it to the range and shot a couple hundred M22s. I may of had one feed. I thought GREAT! Well the second time I took it to the range they were horrible (and yes the gun was cleaned and lubed well). I had just about every couple of rounds either Fail to feed, Fail to Fire, Fail to Eject, Stove pipe, etc. I even had one blow up (the entire back of the brass case blew off). 3rd time to the range had a couple of fail to feed and one blow up like before. After that it hasn't been too bad. Still the occasional fail to feed or fail to fire but nothing nearly like the second time at the range. I don't know if it's just gun needed to be broken in more or what. I had CCI ammo that was never a problem in it from day one and the M22 ammo was never a problem in my Ruger SR22. Very odd that it was just about flawless the first shooting and then really horrible, then good again since. Personally though, I would not buy the M22 ammo again unless that was the only thing I could find and I was down to almost no ammo left. The thing that worries me most is the exploding ammo even though it was just twice (thus far).

CCI standard velocity in M&P 22?
Anyone tried the standard velocity/uncoated CCI .22 LR 40 grain LRN in their M&P 22?

Mine loves CCI Blazer. Never any failures at all with it and it is the most accurate. Had a few FTE/FTF with Remington Golden Bullet and Federal bulk pack, mostly in first 100 rounds. Since break-in it eats pretty much anything including standard velocity stuff. I won't shoot any more Remington Golden through it unless I have nothing else available, due to it leaves ****** gold flakes all over everything inside the pistol.

I've only had my M&P22 for a short time, and been to the range twice. First trip was all Remington, yellow jackets and subsonics. Worked great, had one FTF. Shot less than 100 rounds as I was also shooting the M&P15-22.
Last weekend tried the CCI Blazers and Federal American Eagle.... not so good. I had a bizarre problem with the Blazers, I would insert the magazine (slide locked back) and then rack the slide, but the top round would stovepipe (before I ever fired). Happened 3 - 4 times. Had a number of FTFs with the American Eagle, but no stovepipes. Shot about 100 rounds.
Will try Remington again the next time and see what happens.

I've put nearly a thousand rounds thru mine. CCI, Aguilla, Federal, Remington, Winchester. The Win 333s were the worst performers, but nothing more serious than FTEs.

By and large mine seems to like round nose of any velocity and has most problems with HP, and the Winchesters are the worse for FTE. Been using the Centruion (made by Aguila) 40 gr RN 1280 fps the most (works great), but just got some Mini-Mags and the Super Max which will be the next several thousand rounds.

Just tried the Super Max
I just got back from the range and ran 200 rounds of the Aguila Super Max copper plated round nose (1750 fps) and I loved it. It worked better than any thing I've shot to date. It felt closer to my 9mm with the hotter ammo (well as close as a 22 could) and it had great groupings. It's all I'm going to shoot from now on.

How clean is it, after the range trip? Is it closer to CCI Mini-Mags, or Remington Golden? Just curious.

I would say that it is close to the mini-mags (round nose) and a step better than the remington golden bullets which never functioned as well in my M&P, all I could attribute it to is that they were hollow points. As for how clean it is, I didn't feel like the clean up was any different (I clean every time i shoot), but I would say that cloud of smoke was maybe a little bigger. But performance was great for me. BTW I grabbed mine from AIMSURPLUS.COM for 39.50/brick, and have seen them going other places for $89 (like at the-armory.com right now).

Have you checked out the Gunbot website?
Of course, most ammo prices are pretty high nowadays, even .22, but sometimes you can snag a bargain there. Especially if you can catch it before the other guys do.
You may have to pay for shipping, but you don't have to pay tax (usually). It can balance out nicely that way.

Range Report
Shot my M&P22 this morning. - 100 rounds of Aguila Super Max copper plated round nose (1750 fps) - fed and fired flawlessly.
- 50 rounds of CCI mini-mags - also flawless.
- 100 rounds of Remington Thunderbolt - 95 rounds perfect. Then one jammed after firing. The empty casing was still lodged in the end of the barrel.

Yep she like's high velocity ammo for sure CCI mini mags, winchester white box 555's or 333's, Federal blue box 525 works well in mine too... But this day and age where I live I have not even seen a brick of .22lr ammo in well over 6 months so I'll take anything and clean the gun more re chamber if a low powered round is encountered.. In other words anything that will go bang! Easier for me to shoot 9mm or .45's not that they're cheap but at least once in awhile I can get them.. George
