Shield 40 back from the range
I am really likeing this gun, I have a 40 compact with a trigger job and Meprolight night sights and thought that was my favorite weapon of choice to carry. But this one right out of the box is doing what it is supposed to do. Fire and cycle every time and do it with accuracy. Only got 100 rounds through it, range was going to close. But it is everything I expected and a little more. Trigger is flawless, not anything like the Compact out of the box, and I know it will get better with time. This is the pistol I really wanted for carry, but could not get. I bought the 40 compact as I could get this one. Both are keepers for sure. My son liked the compact so much he went out and purchased one, wait until he gets his hands on this one. All I did to the gun was clean it, and put a better polish on the feed ramp, it was lacking detail. Fired 165 gr. Blazzer aluminum through it and it ate it up. Kuddos to Smith on this pistol.

You would not believe how closely my experience mirrored yours! I too purchased a 40c when I couldn't get a Shield 40. I finally got a Shield, & I guess this is where we differ, I prefer the 40c. There's just not enough gun for me to grip when I'm shooting the Shield. I decided to keep it anyway because it carries so well.

The grip of the Shield lacks to the compact, But they both have similar recoil. The trigger on the shield is way better than the compact out of the box. But after the Apex trigger job the compact is better. I would not do a trigger mod at this point on the Shield, but I will give it time to settle in. The break point is very predictable, and the reset is better than the Apex trigger. I shoot the compact a little better, but I have had it longer. Love both guns, they will both stay in the stable for a long time.

I agree. My brother had a 40c, but bought a Shield. I shot them both, & preferred the 40c. I asked him if he would sell me the 40c, & he said yes. $350, & it was mine, with 4 mags a leather holster, & barely 150 rds down the pipe. I thought both triggers were similar, but they are not Gold Cups, so if the trigger is a bit gritty, [which I didn't find] big deal. Its not a target gun. GARY
