Stock 9mm Barrel vs Storm Lake 9mm Conversion Barrel
I'm curious to know, which barrel do you guys prefer when converting from an M&P40 stock barrel? Thanks!

The Storm Lake is double the price. It is a conversion barrel as it fits just perfect, with the same clearance as the 40 barrel. However there is only one area on the stock 9mm barrel that differs from the 40 barrel, other than the bore size. The barrel tang on the 9mm is about .024 inch narrower in width, at the top rear of the barrel, at the loaded sight hole.
This difference is very minimal and makes no difference in operation, safety, or accuracy. I use a stock 9mm barrel in my Shield 40 and it works perfectly. So save your money for ammo, and buy the stock 9mm barrel. You would get the same results with the 40c and 40fs, using the appropriate 9mm barrel.

I assume nothing else needs to be changed right? 9mm mag and stock barrel? Reuse .40 recoil spring?
Any pros/cons to running the Storm Lake? Weight? Durability?
Only things that pop in my head is you could get the storm lake threaded if you were planning on running a supressor. Along with black/stainless and ported/unported.
Assuming it was just to be used to swap out for 9mm for range use to shoot cheaper ammo the best bet would be to find a factory 9mm barrel.

I too have wondered what the difference was but found nothing specific on the Storm Lake website. I passed up a cheap factory barrel because I was unsure of the compatibility.

All you need to do is swap the barrels. Springs, extractor, ejector will function perfectly. The 9mm cartridges will normally feed fine using the 40 magazine. However I would buy the 9mm mags, if you plan on using the 9 as your carry weapon. 40 mags are fine for practice, but you would not want to bet your life on a mis-feed.

Do M&P barrels have FULL chamber support and standard rifling?

I'm having a hard time picturing exactly what part you are talking about. I just measured my FS 9 and my 40c barrels. They are almost exactly the same size (other than length).

You are correct, it is the proper length. You wouldn't want to try putting a 9c barrel into a 40fs. Swap model to model:
Shield 40 with a Shield 9mm barrel
M&P 40c with a 9c barrel
M&P 40fs with a 9fs barrel.
If you are referring to the differences in the barrels, check this photo out, which shows the tang width differences.

<---- Another Proud Shooter Of Stock 9mm Barrel In My .40
I have absolutely no concerns when shooting it either some people complain and call us stupid because the tiny difference but it locks up just as the 40 would and is just as accurate I would carry it with the same faith as if it had the 40 barrel makes no difference and I bet you will be soo happy once you try it out just make sure you have the right magazines and you are golden those people just feel like suckers for paying double lol.

Try Midway. I've had one on order for months, and finally got it yesterday. They may have more in stock. Out the door, shipping and everything, was $70.00.

2 places:
Call Guns and Gear Outlet at 413 786-0100
Try S&W at 800 331-0852 ext 4125
If you call Smith do not tell them it is for a barrel conversion, as they may refuse to sell it to you. Make up a story that you want a back-up barrel, or you want to polish one barrel and keep one stock.
Both have had the barrels in stock over the last six weeks, and both have also been on back order. Good luck.
Just read another post that said they have tried both for barrels and were told there is a very long backorder on the barrels, which may mean many months of waiting.
